#3021963 No along the sidelines Bengals edition?

Posted by mwright350 on 15 October 2014 - 10:10 AM

Things that are completely free and worth your while that also have a substantial cost to the provider (in terms of both time and money) rarely stay completely free and maintain their quality of service unless the person providing them has unlimited resources to dump into providing them.  Personally I see the (really inexpensive and completely worth it) admission cost to one section of a much larger site as a way to keep providing the free service you enjoy long-term.  You'll remember some of us donated money to send Zod (yeah...I can't bring myself to just call a guy I don't know by his first name like we hung out last night) to Miami as well...there's precedent for people around here being willing to help out.

I haven't seen any indication myself that the free portion of the site (much much smaller than the paid portion of the site, for the record) is being abandoned...that seems like a completely unfounded way to justify complaining about the additional content being offered to those of us who are willing to help support something that "we have had for free for a decade or more"

This is one of the most well-run / easy to tolerate NFL team boards I've had the pleasure of reading...and if $5/mo helps keep it that way I can have one less shot at a bar.  Or one less whatever else.  Or I can just have all the things I had before and have 5 fewer dollars.  I feel like the value I get out of this place, even without the extra forum, is more than $5.

#2663554 Cap now estimated at 132 million?

This thread is 78% better

79%...no...scratch that...80% better.

#2625206 Official Bring Geoff Schwartz back to Carolina Thread

Posted by mwright350 on 20 January 2014 - 05:04 PM

I could get behind this - especially given our need to try to spend intelligently / not having a gazillion dollars to throw around making our weak points less weak.

He'd be an upgrade over what's there now.

#2614928 We have had every other blame thread so heres mine.

Posted by mwright350 on 14 January 2014 - 10:49 AM

It was my wife's fault... she didn't watch the game with me (and sleep) like she usually does...

Come to think of it... everything is her fault.

See I was just thinking it was my wife's fault because she DID sit in the room and sleep through the game with me instead of doing something else like she usually does.

There's a lot of wife blame to around here...

#2547633 Is Ron Rivera Job 100% Safe?

Posted by mwright350 on 16 December 2013 - 08:30 AM

For the first time all season I really didn't expect to see this thread.

At the *worst* we will win 10 games this year. We've had our first winning season since 2008.  We tied our franchise record for a winning streak.  All this while having a secondary with more holes than a strainer, a sub-par receiving corps, and an OL that...well...it's just our OL.

Even if we fug up and go 10-6 Rivera should get a contract extension, and I think he will.

I think it should be noted that the MANY that wanted this RISK FREE stud are no dummies, just as front office personnel aren't perfect.

Quite frankly, I hate the Colts and hope he sucks, but he was a risk free stud at a position of need, period.

Holy poo man...are you really this butt-hurt because you wanted to sign a guy and the rest of the world didn't agree with you?  You're kidding right?

Let's talk about your definition of "risk free" for just a second though.  [movie trailer announcer guy voice begins here] In a world where roster spots are limited and teams cannot keep every guy in the world on their team....every transaction has an opportunity cost and thus a risk [end movie trailer announcer guy voice]

See here's the thing. Maybe if we could just sign all the players (there's a meme for this right?) like we were Gruden at a QB buffet you have a point. But that's not how the NFL works.  The people who didn't agree with you (including our front office) made a decision that based on what they knew of [insert player name here] (I'm thinking of making this a form post...yay generics!) and decided that signing said player was not worth whatever player they thought they'd cut to keep them around.  Clearly you think the risk was worth the potential reward.  Clearly other people did not.  This is a difference of opinion, you'll never be able to prove yourself right, and you don't have nearly the volume of data that would be needed to come close.

Them's the breaks bro.  This league is full of players who we could have signed / drafted / traded for and not everyone will want all of them.  Don't let the butt-hurt be so strong.  poo's not healthy.

#2498507 Mark Kriegel might be Cam's biggest hater...

I read his name and I think "who the hell is this?".

To me...that is indicative of how many fugs I should give about his opinion.

#2470551 what 49er fans are saying

Posted by mwright350 on 06 November 2013 - 04:01 PM

Well his QBR is 4th in the league compared to 15th for Cam Newton. QBR account for throw aways and drops.

FYI  both of their career completion percentage is right at 60%. Which is average

QBR is a silly stat invented by ESPN to make QBs like TinyTimmy look better than they are.

It's not worth quoting, looking at, or putting any effort into unless you're ESPN and you want to make your made-up stat look better than it is.

I'm not taking a side one way or the other on the QBs because I know I'm biased and I know poo about Kaep except he's a weird looking dude...just pointing out how awful the stat is.

Not one thing about this is OK with me.

Dude is awful.

#2468371 Week 10 power rankings

Posted by mwright350 on 05 November 2013 - 10:42 AM

take care of business vs SF next week and nobody will give a poo about the records of our opponents before that game.

Pretty much this.  Beat SF in SF to go to 5 straight and who we beat prior, no matter how badly we beat them, doesn't matter.

On the flip-side lose to SF in SF and, no matter how close we come to beating them, we're going to catch a whole lot of "see I told you you were no good!" from a lot of people.

The reality, in either case, will be somewhere in the middle.

#2468336 Week 10 power rankings

Posted by mwright350 on 05 November 2013 - 10:15 AM

The "You can only play who you play" mantra we're all holding onto to run off people who bitch about our strength of schedule works for KC too.

They played who they were scheduled to play, backup QBs and all, and are undefeated.  They may be the worst team ever to start 9-0 but they *are* 9-0.  IMO that deserves top of the list...or at the very least higher than 6.

#2468310 Send ZOD to Miami ... 4realz

Posted by mwright350 on 05 November 2013 - 10:02 AM

Why not.  I'm not going I might as well spend some money to help send someone else!

#2459479 Newton/Dalton taking back the spotlight

Posted by mwright350 on 31 October 2013 - 11:32 PM

Wow, Dalton didn't do himself any favors tonight...  That was pathetic.  You cannot let a game end by you getting mollywopped on a safety.

Mollywopped is my new favorite word...

#2455950 Was Losing Godfrey The Biggest Step In Turning The Defense Around?

Posted by mwright350 on 29 October 2013 - 01:38 PM

Before we lost him I would have never agreed with the idea.

Seeing how our defense has played this year after being sure that our secondary was going to cost us basically every game?  I think losing that entrenched starter and allowing the coaches to play around with the secondary to find the best group of players has been a welcome surprise.

We certainly don't have an all-world secondary but they've getting the job done more than they're not and it'd be hard to argue that Godfrey's departure didn't help that along.

#2455855 Whoa Panthers get a little praise in the AFC's midway breakdown

Posted by mwright350 on 29 October 2013 - 12:46 PM

that....was...interesting and a bit surprising. i wonder what made them use the panthers as a comparison.

I was wondering that too.  My guess is it's a combination of the rebound from a slow start with absolutely demolishing teams we're supposed to beat.  Our margin of victory vs the 4 teams we've beat has been ridiculous and we haven't had a scare from one of them like we saw happen last night with Seattle / St Louis.

Not just beating who you're supposed to beat but making them look silly while doing it will get people using you as an example.
