#2596366 Does playing a West Coast team at 1 give us an edge?

Posted by dksmith17 on 08 January 2014 - 03:13 PM

It does make a difference and the stats back this up. Someone can look them up, but the win loss percentage is not favorable fir west coast teams traveling east for a 1 game.

I think win/loss is around 25% historically. vs the spread is something like 35%

but Harbaugh has been really good in 1EST games

#2577816 Origin of Peter King's hate on Cam

Posted by dksmith17 on 31 December 2013 - 02:16 PM

Can understand why he was mad, especially if he was assured of an interview. I don't know why Peter King would fly down from New York to Spartanburg for Cam (who else was the national media covering in Panthers training camp in 2011?) if he wasn't promised a sitdown. Still though, guy needs to let it go.

King was in town for his annual training camp tour of every team when Cam blew him off. He didn't make any special trip for Cam and I doubt any sitdown promises were given either.

If I could choose one spot for a D to be weak at vs this Panthers team it would be DT.

Keek's athleticism is definitely underrated. You look at his combine numbers and they are pretty much ideal across the board for a 4-3 MLB. But, a freak? Not so sure about that. Guys like Cam, Peppers, Dontari Poe, Vernon Davis, Patrick Willis... those are freaks. Those guys have size/speed combos that just don't happen.

Willis vs Luke combine:

ht 6-1

wt 242

40 low 4.48 40 time 4.51

20 yard 2.62

10 yard 1.53

225 lb bench 22

vertical 39

broad jump 9-11

20 yard shuttle 4.46

3 cone 7.23

ht 6-3

wt 242

40 low 4.49 40 time 4.58

20 yard 2.59

10 yard 1.56

225 lb bench 27

vertical 38

broad jump 10-3

20 yard shuttle 4.12

3 cone 6.92

He doesn't look the part of an "athletic freak" because most "athletic freaks" are monsters.

I think it is because he doesn't go for the highlight reel hit every possession and just wraps people up.

Patrick Willis often gets talked about as being one of the freakiest and his combine had a lot to do with that. Certainly one of the freakiest combine performance for a MLB.

Luke has basically the same or better combine and you don't hear anything about it.

#2443708 Cam's historical pace (stat heavy)

Posted by dksmith17 on 23 October 2013 - 09:58 AM

I found these using profootballreference's season finder. I am a big believer in y/pa ( yards per pass attempt), and ay/pa (adjusted yards per pass attempt), and also completion percentage to project quarterbacks long term.

Cam is on pace to be one of 2 quarterbacks to have 3 seasons of +7.8 y/pa during their first 3 seasons (minimum 6 starts)

Otto Graham is the other (HOF, retired in 1955)

Cam is on pace to be 1 of 2 quarterbacks to have +6.16 ay/pa during their first 3 seasons (minimum 6 starts)

Dan Marino is the other

13 others had 2 ... Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Carson Palmer, Roethlisberger, Rypien, Warner, Cutler, Esiason, Bulger, Kaepernick, RGIII, Jeff Garcia, Russel Wilson

Cam is on pace to be +6 AY/PA and +57% completion % in all of his first 3 seasons so far.

There are 23 other QBs with 4 or more seasons with those types of numbers during their first 6 seasons

Those 23 QBs, sorted by number of seasons:

Joe Flacco, Jeff Garcia, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, Marc Bulger, Mark Brunell, Troy Aikman, Tom Brady, Jason Campbell, Daunte Culpepper, Jay Cutler, Delhomme :), Brett Favre, Bernie Kosar, Jim McMahon, Donovan McNabb, Carson Palmer, Philip Rivers, Tony Romo

Carolina Panthers are the first team to start 2-3 and outscore opponents by 41+ points since 1921 Cleveland Indians.

My lowest moment actually wasn't the Arizona playoff game.  It was that first game next year against the eagles.

I think we have their low point too and only 2 words are needed

A 6th round pick gets carries after an UDFA in his 1st preseason game. On his first touch in the NFL he fumbles. Then fumbles on a botched snap again later on.

Come here and its all rainbows and unicorns? "pro's pro" "feature back by the end of the year" "great draft pick"

What am I missing?
