#2716096 Gettleman speaks......finally

Posted by PantherFanOne on 25 March 2014 - 06:06 PM

Everyone seems to be harping on Cam's salary but did our GM really just say Bell could be our new LT?

I've asked this before: What in the f*ck does Rivera and DG see in him?  I just don't get it.

It sounds more and more like our line could be Bell-Amini-Kalil-Scott-Chandler if we don't get an OL in R1 or 2.

Also, what was the Godfrey thing someone referenced?

•  He was noncommittal about the future of free safety Charles Godfrey, who has a $7.1 million cap figure and is coming off Achilles surgery.
“He’s part of the evaluation,” Gettleman said. “He’s got to get healthy first.”
•  Gettleman sounded bullish on fourth-year player Byron Bell’s chances to shift from right to left tackle and fill the void left by Jordan Gross’ retirement.
“Byron is a naturally left-handed kid. He played left tackle his whole college career. He’s taken snaps there in practice and in preseason games,” Gettleman said. “I think the mistake we make is we all have preconceived notions about what a guy can and can’t do. I have seen Byron over there. In my mind, he is not a fish out of water.”

I have faith in "Gettleman Magic" to make sure our WR,OL and DB positions are manageable when the season starts.

#2714768 No more Billick

Posted by PantherFanOne on 24 March 2014 - 03:16 PM

On one hand, he was a terrible commentator, but on the other hand, we only lost one game he called for us.

What??? I don't agree.I thought Billick was pretty good and very insightful the vast majority of time..

#2712908 Smitty venting on Twitter

Posted by PantherFanOne on 22 March 2014 - 10:59 PM

Smith carried this offense on his back for over a decade. He wants to take a step back for years, but instead gets thrown out because he isn't able to do it anymore.

I hope we don't do this to Cam.

Smitty may have wanted to take a step back but he still wanted # 1 receiver pay, this  just doesn't work. He let it be known he wasn't going to take a pay cut,so that and his interaction with the team forced his exit.

The NFL is a tough  and hardnosed business, not a social club or retirement home for players. It is a place where some decisions may not suit the players that are released,or their fans  but due to circumstances it happens.

#2712245 D-Jax Big Possibility of Being Cut

Posted by PantherFanOne on 22 March 2014 - 12:57 PM

Panthers could out bid any other team if they wanted to & create cap space.

Our cap situation is overblown. It's because Dave doesn't want to, not that he can't.

OK wise guy,you seem so positive on this issue,so please explain how Gettleman can out bid any other team and still have money to sign  Cam,Luke, Short, Hardy, etc. We are all ears and will be anxiously waiting to hear your master plan.

However,I will not wait to long because I seriously doubt you have a logical answer.

Sam Mills fan we have less than 5 mil. Not happening we can't hardly offer players one year contracts. Gman is a joke

Sent from my XT907 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

( " Gman is a joke? ") What the fug are you talking about ? It is not Gmans fault Hurney was a poor GM with  short vision, throw caution to the wind, contract deals, concerning  money.

He is working his rearend off trying to field a good team this year, meanwhile, getting us out of our present cap hell so we can keep and sign  our young core players ( Cam,Luke,Star,Short, etc) in the not to distant future.

#2707356 When was the Steve Smith decision made?

Posted by PantherFanOne on 19 March 2014 - 07:57 PM

It's the offseason and the biggest news of the offseason

Steve Smith is now a Baltimore Raven. Let's kindly agree to move on because stiring the pot over old news servers no purpose.

#2707340 Eric Davis comments on Panther wr issue

Posted by PantherFanOne on 19 March 2014 - 07:48 PM

We added Olsen on day 1 of training camp in '11!  See June first cuts and Draft cuts are still to come! Chill People! I am sick of People like Chris Mcclain A.K.A "Mac Attack" Taking to the airwaves and spewing needless BS! The Hosts on WFNZ are clueless fans with a mic! They are actually less informed than us huddlers! So feel good about that in this quiet time!

Frank Garcia (former Panthers center) on WFNZ , is the one that really ticks me off because he throws out  verbage,in his all knowing style, that is way out in left field concerning the Panthers.

Today  on "Feel Like Busting Loose",Garcia contended the Panthers could and should, find the money (restructure, etc) to jump into the free agent market and start signing players. What the big dummy doesn't realize is restructing contracts only moves money  to a later date,a problem the Panthers are already  dealing. with.

Garcia and a couple of other WFNZ Boozos fail to realize or conviently forget, we have to get our cap manageable to sign Cam,Luke and several more young core players shortly.

There is no way we need to go on the present overpriced free agent market and start spending money we can't afford and throw caution to the wind.

#2707314 Eric Davis comments on Panther wr issue

Posted by PantherFanOne on 19 March 2014 - 07:22 PM

Not sure if a post has already been made about this;

I heard Davis on NFL AM this morning talking about the Panthers lack of quality starting receivers, and he really wasn't too concerned. He said Rivera and Co are building the passing game around Olsen, and that the receivers we have really don't need to be top notch. Also said to trust Gettleman, the guy knows what he's doing.

It's good to hear  someone with knowledge about the game speak with reason pertaining to the Panthers and the fact that Gettleman knows what he's doing.

Eric Davis could have added that Gettleman is limited in what he really wants to do because the Panthers are in salary cap hell, through no fault of his own.

He could also added that some of the decisions Gettleman is being forced to make preparing for the long haul and getting us out of the salary cap hell, will not be popular but pay off long term.

#2705398 Ginn Replacement?

Posted by PantherFanOne on 18 March 2014 - 06:12 PM

You say that when you have something waiting. That's the problem I don't think people get.  Release Steve Smith I HATE IT....but whatever, IF we have a stud WR just waiting to fill his shoes along with other proven weapons. The positions we're gutting look like they will be filled with even WORSE talent.

I hope I'm proven wrong....but at this point I doubt it.

I know as fans we often get in a panic mode when we don't know the plan or big picture that the Panthers presently have, nor do we really need to at this early date.

Letting last years  starting wide receivers go and replacing them with draft choices, receivers already on the team, free agents or players that will be released later may not be as hard as one thinks but could take a little time for it all to play out.

Smitty is 35 and was due #1 money, while no longer having  # 1 receiver  skills... LaFell who had hands of stone and poor route running...Ginn a return man with good speed but not reliable to catch the long tough passes. ..Hixon  Never panned out. So if you break all of these receivers down, one can realize that we didn't have an elite group and replacing them may not be as hard as a lot of fans think.

#2703660 Panthers Interested in Kenny Britt

Posted by PantherFanOne on 17 March 2014 - 08:20 PM

Olsen was the panthers most dependable receiver last season. It's why he lead the team in receiving yards.

Yes,it goes to show how little  Deion Sanders and a lot of those talking heads really know when talking about a subject.,yet some take their word as being gospel..

#2703075 Bill Voth with a great article on Gettleman's plan

Posted by PantherFanOne on 17 March 2014 - 05:46 PM

(" Carolina’s offseason shopping isn’t exciting and fans can be excused for getting anxious. But it’s not yet time to panic. See what kind of deals Gettleman digs up the next few months. If he’s able to hit on some bargains, 2014 – and beyond – will look a whole lot better.")

#2701495 Cotchery to Visit Monday!

Posted by PantherFanOne on 16 March 2014 - 08:24 PM

Cotchery is perhaps the most underrated third receiver in the league over the last few years. He regularly makes big plays, is a reliable possession receiver and dominates the middle of the field, an absolute must for a team like the Panthers who are in need of a good third receiver. Here's hoping we can sign him for a reasonable amount of money.
