^^^ WTF Japan?

It's from Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!! (ダウンタウンのガキの使いやあらへんで!!)

The basic premise of this segment is a trivia type game. Only problem is that when you get an answer incorrect, you dude's butt/junk gets closer and closer. Once you get like, four questions wrong, you lose and you get a face full of stuff.

Here's one of my favourite subbed captions from one of their batsu (punishment) games.

I watched the original UK series last year and just can't bring myself to watch the remake.

I'm not really surprised. When I first started mentioning it a few years ago, seems like no one had heard of it.

Part of it is that they did essentially zero marketing up until recently. You'd see Jack, Maker's, Bacardi, Smirnoff, Absolut, blah blah blah advertised anywhere they'd allow while Dickel quietly sat on the shelf.

Frankly, GD (as a brand and the manufacturing itself) was horribly mismanaged in the 90's-00's resulting in more supply than demand. The distillery was closed for a few years. It's kind of the red-headed step-child of the Diageo corporation, but I wouldn't have it any other way. They seem to leave GD to their little distillery out in the middle of nowhere to do what they do.

I went to a local ABC store and picked up a bottle of George Dickel for cooking but decided to try how this $18 bottle of whiskey tasted... oh my world...  this is very good quality whiskey for that price...  I've spent $80 on a bottle before that tasted no where near as good.  If you ever at ABC store next time, just give it a try.

No. 8 (black label) is a bit spicy for my tastes...

But No.12 is about as good as it gets for the price.

I discovered Dickel when my wife and I decided to take a little road trip for my birthday and stopped by the distillery for the tour.

The process they use to make Dickel is comparable to Gentleman Jack - possibly even exceeding it as memory serves.

And from what I hear, everyone who lives in the Lynchburg, TN area drinks Dickel rather than Jack Daniels.

I always try to bring a bottle or two back to the Netherlands with me when I make a trip back to the States.
