#1966695 PANTHERS @ BEARS Official Game Thread

Murphy should be thanking Cam for giving him an opportunity to score since he can't fuging catch

#1966352 Mort said Richardson did not want Rivera

I trust Mortensen about as much as I trust the creepy kid that sits in the back of the class.

I hope what they said about us ditching the read option being true. If thats true than i'm stoked.

It will be good for our sanity, but thats about it. Running against a defense that allows an average of 71 yards a game and has allowed 1 rushing TD all season doesn't excite me too much.

#1964250 guess who's gonna get cut...

Fua, that way we can get rid of every DT we've drafted

#1960895 Update on cap situation new GM will inherit.

I think the logic was going to be that Hurney would get players like Beason/Dwill/Cj to restructure in the off season and those guys wouldn't really have to worry about job security. Now there's going to be a new guy that comes in that is going to want to restructure these guys then cut or trade them to make some space. Gonna be an interesting off season.

I like the addressing of the positions of need in the first two rounds, but I'm not too high on the players. I hear Hankins have weight problems, and I don't want a repeat of Jenkins on the team. McDonald may be a great player, but I haven't seen enough from him. If we get a safety, I want one who specializes in ball hawking.

Its an understandable concern for DTs, even Star had his troubles with weight. The guy used to eat like 5 Hardees Burgers a day. And as for a ball hawking safety, well theres plenty in the draft, my personal favorite just happens to be TJ right now.

#1959406 Yet another opinion on the Panthers woes

Posted by BeasonBeastingBacks on 23 October 2012 - 11:37 AM

PFF seems to agree

It never helps your offensive productivity when four of your offensive linemen grade below-1.0. Such was the case for the Panthers. Their reshuffled offensive line wasn’t gelling, and it hindered the offense’s efficiency. The four penalties committed by the line put the Panthers in some longer down-and-distances, really limiting Carolina’s play-calling options.

And so do I, the pressure given up the middle by Hangman, Bell, Amini was terrible, and Garry was thrashed as well.

#1958116 Cam Newton needs real competition.

Wait, how many First Round QBs actually have to fight for their spot?

#1958047 A reasonable Cam Newton trade..

good hands, good blocker too. Likely late first/2nd rounder

Alright so this morning the Hurndog was let go, but that doesn't mean much when I'm essentially just making poo up as I go. I will say however, that my decisions will still be based off Rivera being the HC, McDerp the DC, and Chud circa 2011. At our current rate, we'll probably end up top 6~ pick, I'll just assume we're 5, because I like 5. I'll mock the first 5 rounds, add the last 2 in some later versions. We have a lot of holes on this team, mainly OL, Secondary, and some serious lack of WR talent.
With that in mind, lets jump in
Round 1:
With the recent play of our defense, mainly keeping our last 2 opponents under 100 yards total rushing (seriously what the fug, the week prior the Cowboys rushed for 227 on the Ravens!), DT may not seem as important, but I'd still like to bolster the group, especially get someone to collapse the pocket for CJ, Hardy, and Alexander and give us some potential 3-4 looks as well. So I'm going, in my mind, BPA
Jonathan Hankins
DT, Ohio State
6' 4" 325 lbs
Posted Image
Very versatile DLineman that actively engages and sheds OLineman, rushes the passer, not as athletic as someone as Star, but I'm assuming Oakland takes him before us. A guy that can come in and make an immediate impact rotating with the Edwards Wall.

Other Possibles
Justin Hunter, WR Tennessee
DeMarcus Milliner, CB Alabama
Keenan Allen, WR Cal

Round 2:
Here I'm going to add some secondary help, namely a FS, and I'll start that with
TJ McDonald
6' 3" 205 lbs
Posted Image
Very athletic safety that can turn and run on a dime in coverage, could definitely help make up some deficiencies in this secondary, will occasionally get caught peeking but the guy is very fluid, tall, and is willing to tackle. Plus if we can get Norman to develop at all, having this guy behind him could lead to some jumped routes and a few turnovers :winkwink:

Other Possibilities
Dallas Thomas OT/G Tennessee
Desmond Trufant CB Washington

Round 3:
lol no 3rd rounder

Round 4:
Honestly, I wanted to use this pick on someone like Phillip Lutzenkirchen, but following his season ending injury he'll likely return to Auburn for 1 more season. Instead I'll go with a WR, the new regime likely won't keep everyone we have now, and theres a pretty good shot the only WRs we end up keeping are Smitty and LaFell anyway.
Markus Wheaton:
WR, Oregon State
6' 181 lbs
Posted Image
Not a real known commodity, but he has really hit the scene lately with the Beavers. A 4 year starter, has solid hands, decent speed and body control, can work the short to intermediate routes but has ability to stretch the field.

Round 5:
Try to add some CB depth here by going with
Rod Sweeting
CB, Georgia Tech
6' 184 lbs
Posted Image
Nice sized corner who has done pretty well this season, more depth than anything. Hopefully doesn't need to be pressed into starting duty, but with this team, who knows.

Questions, Concerns, Gripes, or anything else is welcome. Really did this to get my mind off of today.
