#3353653 Shaq breakdown

Posted by rayzor on Yesterday, 07:54 PM

one thing about the shaq pick, i don't see it as a need pick. i absolutely see him as a luxury pick.

i can see some teams that don't have as many pieces as we do (esp. in the LB corps) not being interested in him because he's not a meat and potatoes guy that fills a need. he's a guy that you pick because his unique skillset fits or accents what you do and you draft him early because what he brings makes an already dominant defense even more lethal.

he was more valuable to us than many other teams because we (well, the coaching staff) know how we want to use him and how dangerous the defense could be with him.

the perceived benefit to us was worth the cost. could we have waited until the 2nd to get him? maybe, but he probably wouldn't be there and seeing as how the last OT(or player overall) we were interested in the first was taken just one pick earlier, the time was right to take him because from the team's PoV he was our BPA. It doesn't matter what the all knowing pundits thought was the BPA at that point. it didn't matter if he was other team's BPA at that point. he was ours because of a specific scheme/personnel fit.

there are many players who would be valuable to every team in some regard. then there are players who are more valuable to some teams than others because of scheme. like a 34 rushing LB. no matter how good he is at what he does, his value would be different to a team that runs a 34 than us. a 34 team would use a much earlier pick than we would because the fit is better. with each team there are going to be some players that fit specifically more than they would on other teams so the value placed on them will be different. That's the way it was with shaq.

he got banned for being a useless racist twat.

i'd say that was a reason.

#3352523 What do we do now with Nate Chandler?

the nate chandler experiment is over.

time to move on.

#3352257 Cotchery's Situation

Posted by rayzor on 02 May 2015 - 09:50 PM

he won't be cut. he'll be kept around for the same reason that harper will be kept around. leadership in the lockerroom. i will say that peanut likely brings more to the table than harper as far as mentoring, but the truth is we are awfully young in that secondary so they might keep harper around for at least another year.

cotchery is pretty much the guy in that meeting room for the WRs. he may be the weak link as far as production is concerned, but the fact that he brings needed leadership to a very young WR corps will keep him on the roster.

the WR corps heading into the season will likely be KB/funchess/ginn/cotchery/brown/boykin. i don't see anyone passing those guys up and i don't see us going more than 6 WRs.

#3352225 What's your worry?

Posted by rayzor on 02 May 2015 - 09:24 PM

i'm one of the few (i guess) who isn't worried about OT, even LT.

oher had a bad year last year because he was missing a big toenail and, well, was just on a bad team with bad coaches.

he did really well when matsko was coaching him in baltimore and i think he'll return pretty close to form with him again. that said, i wouldn't have hated it had we drafted humphries to take over LT. i just think that with oher, we have a chance to be solid as a unit. i love the fact that bell is gone and we have legit competition on that right side. i love that we found remmers who can handle RT and that we have williams who with remmers will also provide competition on that left side. my only real worry with the OL is that we will take the rest of the offseason for competition rather than establishing the OL early on and let that unit gel with cam throughout training camp. hopefully it won't take long for the unit to be decided on.

i think the OL as a whole is in better shape than it was at any time last year (and towards the end was doing pretty well).

last year i was a bit worried about the secondary, but i think that we got that settled last year as well. shaq, even though i know he's an LB, will help solidify things in the middle. i think we'll likely go with a heavy dose of these guys on the field.

WR was a big concern for me last year, but KB is the real deal, ginn was brought back to give us that real downfield threat, funchess will be as good as we hope and we still have our most solid receiving option, greg olsen. between olsen,KB,and funchess i think we are pretty well set, tbh. ginn and brown will help round things out in that corps.

really the only thing i worry about is shula.

#3352198 Bye bye Bersin?

Posted by rayzor on 02 May 2015 - 09:13 PM

i don't care about him making the WR corps. the dude did what he was called on to do very well in that regard.

it's that whole ST thing that i want him far away from.

with ginn back, i don't think we have to worry there.

#3352188 The Athleticism of Funchess

Posted by rayzor on 02 May 2015 - 09:10 PM

i saw in some other thread someone compared him to terrel owens and i can't seem to get that comparison out of my mind. i think it works.

let's just hope he's a wee bit more mentally stable.

i am really liking that combo of benjamin and funchess with a side of olsen in the endzone. our redzone packages are going to be lethal.

#3351377 Pete Prisco Appreciation Thread

Posted by rayzor on 02 May 2015 - 03:49 PM

pete prisco and peter king are two media hacks i would be happy never reading anything from again.

#3346942 If Laell Collins falls to the 5th, how do we not take him?!

Posted by rayzor on 01 May 2015 - 04:55 PM

i'm just waiting for the "bitch probably had it coming" crowd.

people who defend DV douchebags are pretty dispicable, imo.

collins is untouchable and until he's proven innocent i don't want this guy anywhere near my team. just the fact that there is enough smoke to warrant legit suspicion makes me want to stay far away from this guy.

i'm not saying that i want all choir boys on the team, but we do need to have  some standards and, imo, DV is a line i want to stay far away from.

#3345792 For those of you disappointed in no first round WR

Posted by rayzor on 01 May 2015 - 08:47 AM

the offense will be addressed quite a bit in the next couple days with very little drop off from what we could have picked up at 25.

i want cam protected and given more weapons, but i'm not going to stress about it. the OL and WR groups are better off now than they were last year and we've got quite a few picks left to help add more to what we have. i don't know if we'll get anything more than depth at OT (but after humphries got picked, we wouldn't have had anything more than depth to choose fro.com anyway). at WR we've got quite a few options who can come in and be that #2 WR for cam and help open up our offense (as much as shula will allow anyway).

#3345387 Shaq Thompson is not an undersized linebacker

Posted by rayzor on 01 May 2015 - 06:35 AM

considering that they are going to be using him in a variety of ways and probably more as a safety/LB hybrid i have a hard time classifying him as just an LB. he's a weapon on defense that gives us more versatility in what we can do. our top end defense just got better.

#3341102 Falcons have told pot head Ray they will Draft him at #7

Posted by rayzor on 29 April 2015 - 08:21 PM

They're not that stupid to be serious about it and let it leak

you must be new to the falcon way of doing things.

this is the team that hired a coaching staff before they hired a head coach.

they are building their new stadium to resemble a sphincter and then name waste management as a primary sponsor.

you can't make this poo up.

#3340707 Browns offer 2 RD1 picks to Titans

Posted by rayzor on 29 April 2015 - 05:04 PM

I shot out a couple of browns this morning that are more competent than Ray Farmer.

this isn't a ray farmer thing.

it's a brown thing and it's been going on since they came back in the league.

no matter who they have at GM, they are going to be handicapped because of that owner. he is one of the dumbest and most meddling owners in the league.

#3329717 2015 Full Schedule is up

Posted by rayzor on 22 April 2015 - 06:40 AM

Love the Turkey Day game, love back to back Prime Time games, and will definitely be going to the Giants game in December! I see us going 10-6 and making the Playoffs for the third year in a row.

i feel pretty much the same way, tho i would say at least 10-6. that schedule is set up quite nicely for us.
