Sam Amick: "Kemba More Likely To Leave Than Stay"

Recommended Posts

Sam Amick, a well respected NBA reporter for The Athletic with nearly 220K Twitter followers was asked in a Q&A whether or not he thought Kemba was going to re-sign in Charlotte.

Amick responded with the following answer:

"At this point, based on scuttlebutt around the league but without direct clarity from his side, it feels like he’s more likely to leave than stay."

Start preparing your lives for some of the most miserable basketball you have ever seen.

Pure speculation. Kemba probably doesn't even know what he is going to to yet.

We're watching miserable basketball with Kemba.  He deserves better than what this pathetic franchise has done to capitalize on his talents.

I’m more concerned about what is best for the Hornets...and keeping Kemba here is best for us right now

but we have got to get some more scoring...getting old seeing Kemba miss shots with game on the line, it happens way too much

Of course.  If we give Kemba a max deal we're going to have to hope for amazing draft picks because we won't be able to afford much else.  And the NBA knows if you double team Kemba and zone the rest, you can completely derail our offense unless it's a night where someone else surprisingly over delivers (Marvin or Lamb most likely).

We will definitely resign Kemba

Curious, what's the timing on such a deal?  Does the team have to wait until after the season to lock him up?

Agreed about how teams play us/Kemba, but the other side of letting him go in Hope's of rebuilding/reconstructing a better overall roster is, we are not a premier free agent destination.  So, even if we didn't re-sign Kemba, we'll have to hit on our draft picks for years to come, because until we actually start winning, no great player will choose to sign with Charlotte anyway...  so, may as well keep Kemba and figure out the rest.  But, we desperately need to hit on a draft pick...  and not Monk, Bridges, or Frank.  I mean we need a big effin' hit.

Unfortunately history isn’t on our side when it comes to nailing a draft pick.  But with Mitch at the helm I guess we’ll see.

We have lost all leverage with Kemba. He can walk and we get nothing or we sign him to huge money and continue this treadmill path.

This is why I will continue to beat the dead horse and say we should have traded Kemba last year for picks. We would have been terrible this year and had a top 3 pick in a pretty strong draft.

I also hate the idea that fans won't support a tank. We have supported this shitty team for 30 yrs and even endured the Bobcat era. We watch our team blow 4th quarter games almost each and every game yet continue to watch so I say blow it up and start over.

Find a way for a sign and trade with Kemba to at least get some value back in return. Overall, I love Kemba and wish him well. It is best for both sides.

If the Knicks miss out on Kyrie there is a very real chance Kemba signs with NY. Dolan will be desperate to sign a superstar. Kemba can go home to NY and make bank? I see that as a very real possibility.

Honestly guys I love this team and I want nothing more than us to succeed. Isn't that by admitting we've seen the peak of this group of guys and they just aren't very good?

Hornets will offer Kemba a max deal. He'll either sign it at 12:01 am, July 1st, or not at all.

Whoever misses out on the Kyrie sweepstakes will go after Kemba next.

    • I wouldn't start Grier, but keep Allen as the starter to give him more seasoning. Yep, it has been a baptism by fire, but that's what happens in the NFL. Young QBs don't get thrown out there with perfect O-lines and innovative coaching -- they generally get thrown out there in desperation and into injury-riddled lineups. They get beat senseless, and then they either learn from their many mistakes or wither under the pressure. Almost all the good to great QBs in this league started off that way except for Rogers. That's what has happened here. The Kid came out firing on all cylinders better than anyone had a right to expect, but now he has returned to the mean for rookie QBs (and yes, he had one prior game's experience, but otherwise he was as close to a rookie as can be). Allen has to stick with it and suffer the lumps and learn from them. He won't on the bench and he won't get the leadership skills necessary if he does need to be the starting QB next season. I loved seeing Cam play but I just don't have much faith in his recovery from injury this time. Should Grier get into the games? Yes, indeed. If we are getting blown out, send him in, let him see the elephant (so to say). He might do something spectacular, but most likely will do the rookie QB mistake-filled shuffle, but we can go ahead and start getting some of those steps out of the way. Dropping Kyle as the starter, though? No. We may or may not have something in the Kid, and it will take time to tell. If we bail on him, we'll never find out until someone else picks him up and gives him a shot.
    • #1 ron had to.  #2 is just flat out wrong.  norv wanted grier.  ron lets norv handle the O.  this makes #3 just incorrect.   norv loves grier.  he was taken as a project.  he did not show up like wilson and take the team over.  he's not ready, and was never expected to be ready.  he was here to sit behind cam and kyle and watch.  there is no conspiracy behind this.  the only reason he got taken at the bottom of the 3rd is our FO and coaches wanted him.   nobody else did.  their basket was attached to cam and cam only.   how do you get a 2nd qb ready when the 1st one isn't quite ready?  they only get to practice so much.  you may get your wish before the season is over.  its gonna probably be hilarious in the bad way
