SCOTUS leaves Kentucky ultrasound law in place

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Monday left in place a Kentucky law requiring doctors to perform ultrasounds and show fetal images to patients before abortions.

The justices did not comment in refusing to review an appeals court ruling that upheld the law. Enforcement of the law had been on hold pending the legal challenge but will begin shortly, said Steve Pitt, general counsel to Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin.

The American Civil Liberties Union had challenged the law on behalf of Kentucky’s lone remaining abortion clinic. The ACLU argued that “display and describe” ultrasound laws violate physicians’ speech rights under the First Amendment.

I don't see why the ACLU wouldn't want women to make an "informed" choice, but they don't care.

You know good and goddamned well that this isn't about informing women...  you even put that poo in quotes.

It's all about shaming them.  You conservatives have convinced yourselves that you know best about everything...

...and act like it's a surprise that the hardcore right Trumpers on the court would do anything but this.

Informed = You are pregnant.

What more does the ultrasound show?  You are pregnant with a human zygote?

Don't you know? Women are too dumb to understand how their own reproductive system works. They need the government to step in and explain it too them.

Thank you, party of small government and personal responsibility!

Dems should put laws on the books that you have to watch footage of trauma surgery from gunshot wounds on small children when you buy a gun.

"What? It's just so you can make an informed choice. It's not supposed to emotionally manipulate you! We're just giving you more information! You're welcome!"

It is worth noting this didn’t even get accepted and was rejected without comment. That means either all or some of the liberal judges did not invoke the rule of 4 and decide to hear the case. Oddly. Either a bad argument by the ACLU, or... hmmm...

Could be a can of peas.  Thanks to the Supreme Court, women in Kentucky will know.

This forces women to carry children against their will?  Show that in the law.  All this does is require an ultrasound showing the woman that what she's about to abort isn't just a clump of cells.  Aka informed.

Do you think a woman seeking an abortion isn't aware she's pregnant or what being pregnant means and that it's purely informational.  Be honest.

I mean I know you don't really think that, I just want to see you pretend to be stupid.

We have women that don't know about birth control and we expect them to know exactly what they're about to do?  Sight unseen it is easy to be convinced something isn't human.  If it saves one human life because the woman changed her mind, it might just be worth it.  Why are you adamantly against providing more information to the woman to make a proper decision?

This is possibly one of the best things you've ever posted on this site.  If this problem is solved first, the rest of it is virtually a non-issue.

Republicans need the wedge issue to turn out voters though, so that's a no go.
