Tepper hired a private investigator to look into Deshaun Watson
hepcat replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think you're 100% right about that. Tepper has proven to be impatient, willing to make aggressive splash moves (as we saw with the early season trades last season), and he's also a very proud man to the point of arrogance. He's clearly embarrassed his decisions have turned the team into a laughing stock of the NFL, with other franchise calling the operation "amateur-ish". So Tepper doesn't have many options right now. Trading for Watson is the best one left on the table, even if it comes at the cost of having to salvage the reputation of an accused sexual predator, regardless of the outcome of the criminal charges. And it's just so f*cking sad this is what the Panthers have become. I am already not a fan of David Tepper because of what he has done to the Panthers, but for many long-time fans, trading for Watson would probably be the last straw. The mo And there's very little guarantee the move produces a winning team. The 2020 Texans were a mess despite Watson's elite QB play. It goes to show you can't put the carriage before the horse - the Panthers roster is not ready to compete and will be even further behind after a trade for Watson. -

@Vergesaid Tepper hired the PI back in October. @ellisthen said Tepper was prepared to trade for Watson in November, regardless of the status of his criminal charges. Maybe he did have hesitation before he hired the PI, but if Ellis is right, whatever hesitation Tepper had seemed to have gone out the window given whatever the PI was able to report. Maybe the case against Watson is being dismissed, who knows. Either way, the reports Watson refused to waive his no-trade clause for the Panthers seems to ring true. And my comment about the Panthers simping for Watson despite the fact he already rejected them, DURING his criminal investigation, says a lot. Watson doesn't want to come to the Panthers. -

bro too true. I feel like Ball is gonna bolt for the Lakers in a couple years and the Hornets will be back to being a bottom dweller. -

Makes sense and thanks for the info and take. The thing that I think bothers many fans is seeing the owner be so obsessed with trading for an accused sexual predator without hesitation. Because the optics on the outside look like the only reason Watson isn't a Panther right now is because he doesn't want to play for Carolina. -

@ellis man that reads like the Panthers are simping so hard for Watson. They would have traded for him despite all the ongoing criminal charges? And Watson STILL didn't waive his no trade clause? Tepper dude take a hint. -
If they can re-sign Gilmore to a reasonable 1 year deal I'm all about it. Maybe free agents would be more likely come here if the QB position was more stable. No defender wants to play on a team with Sam Darnold as the starting QB. You'll be on the field twice as much and twice as likely to get hurt. More work for the same paycheck.

Yea I think it’s entirely plausible for Tepper to have hired a PI to check out Watson. It’s not even something that would have been a secret. The attorneys in the case both have PIs investigating each side and investigating the accusers and defendant. Tepper’s PI could have just acted like he’s gathering evidence about the case. There are no laws about deceptive practices in private investigating. My biggest concern is what the PI actually found, and if it’s not as bad as what the public is perceiving about the accusations, how did Watson still sit out an entire season and his charges go before a judge, and why does Tepper still want to trade for him? -

Tepper is probably guilty of insider trading at some point in his career that probably wouldn’t be impossible to prove. Any unscrupulous personal misgivings might be a little more tricky. But hey look at Richardson! -
On topic, this is perfectly Jerry Jones and honestly if he’s been financially supporting her why is she suing him? She wants him to publicly admit he’s her father? Okay…gravy train might be leaving though girl.

David Tepper is a horrible sports owner. He needs to be seen as such by the larger sports media. Personally I’m glad I have Austin FC to root for so I can actively root for Charlotte FC to fail because I genuinely hate what he’s done to the Panthers.

Maybe I should hire a PI to investigate David Tepper too. Could possibly net us a new owner. Those billionaires are all up to shady sh*t one way or another. -

If you need to hire a PI to investigate a player he’s probably not worth trading for Tepper probably has a PR firm ready to clean up Watson’s image too -
good, they can have him. f*ck the steelers and f*ck pennsylvania. makes me sick the panthers are run by a couple jamokes from that hick ass rust belt garbage state.

Seattle is more desirable because they are an organization and head coach that has been to the playoffs 9 out of the last 10 seasons vs Matt Rhule who couldn't even beat a ranked college team

Carter sucked. He was often out of position. Luvu was a decent move but I feel like he was the beneficiary of circumstance more than an actual difference maker. Like he didn't get a ton of playing time on defense but he made the most of what he did get. So hopefully if he gets more time he can continue that success, but it could be a gamble. Great special teams player though.
