The running game is hit and miss. It's not winning consistently. It was all TEs and RBs that couldn't win in the flats, off the edges, or between the tackles. Wide receivers were targeted 7 times in the game for 4 touches. Panthers had 8 drives to work with in the game, and the game was 0-27 at halftime. The Panthers only had 2 drives in the 2nd half, and the TD drive was anchored by a 3rd down 29 yard pass by Dalton. 1st drive ended because Hubbard got 1 yard on 2nd down to set up 3rd & long. Then Miles Sanders got lost and couldn't execute a quick release dump off screen. 2nd drive started off with Hubbard losing on 1st down. Dalton set up the 3rd and short. Johnson was turned by DB and no call. 3rd drive was a 1st down pass by Dalton followed by Johnson giving up on his route to a physical DB for the INT. 4th drive was Hubbard losing on 2nd and 6 and Nijman giving up the sack on 3rd down. 5th drive was 4 straight running downs of Hubbard, Hubbard, Miles Sanders, Hubbard. Turnover on downs. 6th drive was Hubbard setting up a 3rd and very long with a -2 yard run followed by a 0 yard run. Then, end of half 0-27. Game over with this defense. Notice how the failing element on 5 of the 6 drives are the RBs? This game was definitely a commitment to RBs and TEs. The RBs didn't win. Hubbard had 12 touches in the first half and lost on 7 of them. Miles Sanders was given 3 opportunities and lost on 2 of them. 8 of 15 by the RBs for 2 turnovers and 2 conversions. 7 of 11 by the QB for 1 turnover and 4 conversions. 3 punts (WR drop, OL sack, RB 3rd & 12) Hubbard converted once on 46% of the offense's opportunities. Dalton was 40% of the offense and doubled the RBs production. Brian Robinson converted 5 times in the first half for a RB comparison. The game was lost on garbage defense and ineffective RBs behind one of the strongest run blocking OLs in the league. Let's stop claiming there is no commitment to the run. Dalton has been bailing the RBs and pass blocking out for 5 games. Hubbard will never be a complete back. He is not good enough to be a power back or a 3rd down back. He's a limited change of pace RB at best who can't carry a game, and he's struggling to be consistent behind this good run game OL. Limited and flashy won't get it done in this league. There is a commitment to the run. You're not seeing it because the defense is allowing everyone to score and the running game can't win consistently. The running game is equivalent to a 40% passing QB who turns over the ball, but makes a highlight play 1 or 2 times every drive that doesn't result in 2 or more scores a game.

Young to Miami (Trade proposal via fox)
CPantherKing replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
The media doesn't want to be wrong about Bryce Young. They are so desperate to see their yearly unicorn stories emerge as league domination. The media runs around touting young hyped QBs who will never get it done with their first team. Then they start celebrating them in their 30s for a win streak on their 2nd and 3rd teams. 23 year old undrafted Kyle Allen has been Tepper's greatest QB success with a 4 game winning streak. A 5-1 start with 4 games of 30+ points. -
Evero has destroyed many careers. Hackett and Wilson are glad to get away from him. They put on a good game to watch Sunday night. The Teppers definitely like projects and luxury draft picks. They're determined to reinvent the game with college coaches, tiny QBs, injured college players, and players performing out of position. The analytics have been skewed. The algos are tainted. The superprocessor is melting down. The Panthers are Frankenstein's monster. When was the last time the coaches, GM, scouting, and owners actually agreed on the same philosophy? This is a farm team for the NFL and a stepping stone for careers and contracts.

If I had my way Darnell Washington and Jake Ferguson would be the Panthers TEs. Oh well, the Panthers' front office knows better.

Hubbard can't consistently win. He has a lot of negative plays and is not a threat on the sweep, screen or swing pass. He's so slow at turning up the field and making a defender miss. Back up RB for a contender at best.
-
Trade back to accumulate 10 to 12 picks. Sign a couple 28+ year old QBs at a reasonable contract. Draft a day 3 QB to develop for a few seasons. Build a defense and an OL that can carry a team to the playoffs from the draft.
-
I'm sure they'll be partying with Chinn and Luvu after the game without Evero around. Young going to dinner with Daniels.
-
Evero got this. He's excellent at running out the clock
-
There's ZERO weapons for the flat
-
Young is just running out clock
-
Evero was leveraged into staying by Tepper. He was ready to leave last season.
-
Horn looked into the backfield and saw Mariotta running out of the pocket. He shrugged and then realized he was passing. That's definitely giving up
-
Horn gave up
-
Any shot Evero gets the defense off the field in 3 plays?
-
They helped to field a roster together this year. It's the one thumping the Panthers now.
-
Need to start winning big in the flats. This dancing and slow to turn up field is frustrating
-
Hurney and Fitterer are watching this game from the owners box. Think about that for a moment.
-
Evero aiming for another 6 minute drive. Maybe they Can get to 8 minutes this time.
-
Seems Quinn knows exactly how to shut down Canales play calling. How many years were they in Seattle together?
-
Need to win in the flats
-
We knew this was coming defensively with an Evero defense. Many said Canales needed to score 30+ a game to even be competitive
-
We need Case Keenum!
-
Defense wants their TV time. Racked up 6 minutes there
-
Another 5+ minute drive by the defense
-
Fire Evero first. The offense has been putting up 20+ 1st downs a game. Canales doesn't have the ability to call a ball control or field position game with this defensive play calling. We'll see if Canales corrects the offensive play calling to the flats. Washington is giving them up and the RBs can't get 1 yard on a swing pass. TEs can't be trusted.
