Canes Acquire Puljujarvi For Puistola
MillionDollarCam replied to MillionDollarCam's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
Kind of shocked that the Canes couldn’t get Puljujarvi for even less than that, he seemed to have no future with Edmonton. -

Hell some of the prospects we’ve hung on to may never help us… I was saying earlier that I’d rather give guys like Drury, Rees, and Suzuki a chance to make the roster as fourth line players going forward rather than bringing in older guys like Stepan and Stastny. In a perfect world those players develop but even if they don’t (like Zetterlund from NJ), you can still flip them in trades because they are young enough where another team might take a chance on them. -

The guy featured in this (Michael Futa) used to work for the Canes… safe to say that there was some philosophical differences in how to get a Cup. -
Canes appear to be in on Chychrun… He’s not exactly what we need need right now but he’d make it easy to let Skjei go when his contract is up. Slavin - Burns Skjei - Pesce Chychrun - Chatfield de Haan
-
Wtf… Tampa out here giving entire drafts up for Jeannot.
-
Wonder what the cost is to get Chychrun and Schmaltz.
-
At this point it’s safe to assume San Jose was always dealing him to NJ. If the Canes did indeed offer Morrow, he’s far and away the best prospect out of all that San Jose got back.

Don Waddell is a cheap ass watch

Timo is an RFA so he’ll be with the Devils for at least the remainder of this year and next year, I’d be shocked if they don’t give him is offer sheet. -
I feel like the big issue for the Canes is they don’t have any young roster players to use as throw away pieces. Our bottom six consists of veterans and NJ’s bottom six consists of young average players like Zetterlund who at least have a chance of getting better. Stastny and Stepan are what they are at this point and the Canes probably could have gotten the same production out of Drury and Rees but the Canes have elected to go with the veteran route. If you break the trade down… Zetterlund - Canes don’t have an equivalent Johnsson - He’s just a cap dump so Canes wouldn’t have needed to include a piece here but the Canes could have included Stepan or an older prospect like Lajoie. Ohotiuk - His prospect ranking is probably similar to Honka’s Mukhamadullin - His ranking is similar to Heimosalmi’s. So if I was to try to create a package like that from the Canes perspective, it would be: Drury, Stepan, Honka, Heimosalmi, and two first round picks.
-
And now it’s official.
-
Looks like the injury concern is not with Meier but with one of the pieces NJ is trying to include… Get fuged San Jose.
-
LOL, Friedman is reporting that the deal is NOT DONE, there’s now some injury concerns with Meier…
-
Well fug me.

I’d see if we could get Duchene and Jeannot from Nashville. Duchene could slot in as the 2C and Jeannot could add that toughness we need. Svech - Aho - Jarvis Teravainen - Duchene - Necas Martinook - Staal - Fast Noesen - Kotkaniemi - Jeannot Stepan - Stastny

Seravalli is leaking some of the packages that were sent out San Jose (not including player names). The package that looks like Carolina’s is a first round pick, team’s top prospect, and an additional pick. Based on that, people were speculating that we offered a 2023 first rounder, a 2024 second rounder (from PHI), and Scott Morrow.
-
We never had a chance… Meier at 50% retained and from what it sounds like they kept Mercer and their high end prospects… The Canes never had a chance due to the personal connections between San Jose and New Jersey.
-
I’ll wait til the deadline is over. DW pulled Trocheck out of his ass a few years ago so let’s so I’ll wait and see what happens first. I do think we need to fill our two open roster spots with forwards then ship off Coghlan for an upgrade on defense.
-
Seravalli now reporting that the Canes will look to add multiple players now including a LHD.
-
Some speculation coming out that Carolina may have just been used by San Jose to drive up that cost and DW got tired of it. It was getting to the point where Carolina knew they didn’t have a chance but were being strung along to drive up the price on Meier. Some posters on another message board said he was pissed at the game last night. All speculation of course but it’s plausible.

And Barbashev just traded to Vegas…
-
There’s also a rumor going around that Meier prefers Vegas and that if he were to sign an extension, it would only be with them. If that’s true, it doesn’t make sense to give up the farm for 1.5 years of Meier (assuming the Canes would give him his $10M QO if they had acquired him).
-
Eh, whatever go get Schmaltz, Barbashev, and Gostisbehere. Svechnikov - Aho - Jarvis Babashev - Kotkaniemi - Necas Teravainen - Stastny - Schmaltz Martinook - Staal - Fast Noesen - Stepan Slavin - Burns Skjei - Pesce Gostisbehere - Chatfield de Haan Andersen Raanta
-
LeBrun reporting that the Canes are officially out on Meier as of this morning. Two things can be true. Maybe are offer wasn’t the best (or maybe it was)… OR Maybe the Grier brothers (one works for San Jose and one works for New Jersey) prefer to do business with each other. There’s a lot of personal connections between those two organizations and Meier also has some very close friends and countrymen on the Devils as well. This could simply be a situation where Meier was not interested in Carolina.

If they aren’t going to use the $10M then they need to start handing it out at the door for all the years we had to watch poo hockey being played at RES, RBC, and PNC.
