Even with the NBA, the above holds true for the most part. I only see one to two games a night where the FT discrepancy decides a game.
-
People like to blame the officials but in retrospect, the team that shoots better (FG%, 3PT%), rebounds better, and turns the ball over less usually wins. If a team does all of that and still loses then we can start looking at free throw discrepancies but more often than not the players decide the game.

2023-24 Regular Season(non canes) thread
MillionDollarCam replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
Ah you are right, Islanders now have a game in hand. Gonna be a tight finish. -
That’s not going to happen, if anything, officiating will lean towards State. They are drawing all of the viewers right now. Their game against Duke was the most watched Elite Eight game since 2019 and it was the most watched telecast on Easter Sunday in 11 years. America is following NCSU, if Purdue wins it’ll be because they were better.

2023-24 Regular Season(non canes) thread

If Pittsburgh wins, they’ll temporarily jump into third in the Metro. Of course all that could change in a few hours after the Islanders and Flyers play. -
Did they not have the game on in the concourse? And it hasn’t been just yesterday, the Canes report sell outs, which they are, but resellers would rather hang on to their tickets rather than discount them. And I know for a fact businesses waste a bunch of tickets because when I lived in NC mine did that.
-
I blame resellers and the local businesses that buy up tickets but don’t use them.

I’d love that, catch me wearing her Charlotte Sting merch to the games.
-
We got a good one, Clark is starting to get going.
-
I’m waiting for the video of Rod’s locker room speech. If Svech is standing in the back then I’ll know for sure that “illness” just means healthy scratch. You don’t let a sick guy in your locker room.
-
So I need to be real with everyone… Burns is struggling a bit. A lot of it is with turnovers or failed clearances, we need to get that poo tightened up. Also, Orlov - Chatty is a dominant pair. Time to lock Chatty up.

@HarbingersI need the report card on this one.
-
Caps and Isles have played same amount of games. Caps have one game in hand on Philly.
-
Caps coming out of this one with no points is massive in regards to the playoff picture. At least momentarily, the Islanders occupy the final metro spot.

That South Carolina team is the women’s version of UConn (men’s) but Iowa vs. UConn has the potential to be the game of the season regardless of whether it’s men’s or women’s hoops. Clark vs. Bueckers is quite the showdown. And speaking of SC, I’d love to see Dawn Staley get a crack at a men’s job should she want it. I’d take her over Hubert any day. Her ripping her girls when they were up 20 because they were slow to close out a three is what I love to see.

Brandon Miller has become the second player in NBA history to record 25+ points in a half with 100/100/100% splits (minimum 5 three’s attempted). Other player is Steph.

Well the Guentzel trade is working, now if we can get six more guys like him.

That’s not true at all. 2020 - Redshirted 2021 - 491 all purpose yards - 6 TD’s 2022 - 896 all purpose yards - 9 TD’s 2023 - Injured - 516 all purpose yards - 3 TD’s - On pace for 802 all purpose yards - 5 TD’s If you want to look at this from another perspective you can check how dangerous McConkey is with the ball in his hands. McConkey averaged a TD every 7.33 touches throughout his career. In comparison, Legette averaged a TD every 10.75 touches throughout his career. I’ll even go further, throughout his career, Rome Odunze averaged a TD every 8.62 touches. And just for shits and giggles. The touches to TD formula accurately predicted Puka Nacua’s success as an NFL player. It’s primarily used to show how explosive a player can be with the ball in their hands and McConkey has that same explosiveness. -
Lose tonight and we are 3-4 in our last seven, only takes 4 loses to get eliminated in the postseason.
-
Believe so.
-
The loss last night cemented our place as second in the metro… team is playing like they know they have nothing to play for.

Canes on the way to the playoffs…

I’m telling y’all right now. Illness is code word for benched.

Every time this thread comes up I say the same thing. We are too one-dimensional. Get pucks in deep, forecheck, cycle, and then throw the puck at the net. It works when we are head and shoulders better than our opponent, but when our opponent is good enough in their own end, it can create issues offensively for us. It’s been proven that more high danger scoring chances come from the rush rather than cycling the puck. So if you’d like to know why we outshoot our opponent by 15 but only win by one goal, this is the reason why. I like the idea of putting Necas with better transition players and letting that line try to score on the rush more. Give me: Guentzel - Aho - Necas Svechnikov - Kuznetsov - Jarvis Martinook - Staal - Fast Noesen - Drury - Teravainen Lemieux - Kotkaniemi Slavin - Burns Skjei - Pesce Orlov - Chatfield DeAngelo - Morrow Andersen Kochetkov Martin

I’d also prefer McConkey or Corley over Leggette lol. Breakouts can certainly happen and they can carry over to the NFL but I personally would rather have the more consistent and fundamentally sound players. Otherwise we’ll be spending too much time trying to figure out how to make our athletes good football players when we could have just drafted good football players to begin with.
