True, injury history is a big concern with EK. -

San Jose would have to retain 50% and we might even have to have another team come in and retain an additional 25%. Don’t think we could afford the cap hit unless a minimum of 50% was retained. -

How would everyone feel about trading futures, prospects, etc. for EK and then flipping Pesce for a forward? Adam Gold mentioned something today on the Pesce front that caught my eye. It seems that money might not be the issue but rather term. He speculates that the Canes don’t want to give Pesce a seven or eight year deal that will run him to 38 and would be more inclined to take EK for four years. -

Elite for his age but not in terms of overall NHL talent. Not many 35 year olds will put up damn near 100 points though. -

Canes love those highly skilled, offensive, small guys. A lot of them fall because of their size but the Canes scoop them up in hopes they turn into the next Brayden Point or Johnny Hockey. -

People were hyping up McDavid since he was 13 years old, there’s YT videos of him training at like 12. In his draft year he put up 120 points in 47 games in arguably the best junior hockey league in the world. -

I don’t know anything about this kid but he put up a bunch of points albeit in a pretty meh junior league. -

Going to break during a pick by a Carolina franchise? It’s a right of passage. -

McDavid for sure. Everyone knew exactly what he was going to be. Bedard is getting some recognition but it’s closer to the recognition that Crosby received rather than McDavid. -

Cristall seems like a Canes pick through and through, small forward with speed with a massive upside, been compared to Johnny Hockey. We’ll see if the Canes go with the small guy or choose to get bigger. -

Haven’t heard anything about any trades brewing other than the TDA trade. I saw we called to check in on Karlsson but I highly doubt we have serious interest. -

Seeing reports that the Canes and Aho are closing in on an extension. -
Two years from now, a starting lineup of Ball - Miller - Bridges - Washington - Williams could be very good.

Terrible news. No idea how it happened but do yourself a favor and stay out of the water when there are riptide warnings. I’m down here in Florida and we had three drownings this past Saturday alone along the Emerald Coast, and I believe 10 since June 1st.
-
Rod stated this past year that he spoke with a former player who said he wished he never left, many suspect it was TDA.
-
Right but I think the questioning here is what exactly did Carolina trade. They didn’t trade TDA himself they traded his rights, meaning he was no longer a Hurricane. I think both teams are arguing that it can’t be cap circumvention when Carolina never signed TDA to begin with last year and they didn’t trade TDA himself, just his rights, which allowed Philly to get a head start on contract negotiations since TDA was a FA.

Jesper needs to come back to Carolina so he can continue making moonshine. All things considered, he might have been our best player in the postseason. -
Think our deal will still go through and the Flyers and Blues will try to work something out.
-
Just the NHL blocking the TDA deal for right now because they think Carolina is trying to circumvent the cap due to some rule about reacquiring a player within a year. Unless I’m reading the rule incorrectly, it shouldn’t even apply. It sounds like you can’t sign a player, then trade him, and then reacquire the same player within a years timeframe with retention. The thing is, Carolina didn’t sign TDA and trade him, they traded his rights and he was then signed by Philadelphia. It just seems like the NHL is being dicks to the Canes again.
-
Lolol Canes getting shafted again. Funny hill for the NHL to die on when there are teams who stash players on LTIR until the playoffs.
-
It looks like the snag is that this deal is going to part of like a three or four team deal and one the deals includes Torey Krug going to Philly, the problem is he won’t waive his NTC for Philly.
-
Great point here, Torts and TDA were a match made in hell. TDA isn’t great defensively but he isn’t near as bad as he was last year.
-
I’ve come to the terrible terms that I’m not sure Chatfield will be back after this year. For my money, he’s the best third pairing defenseman in the league and would slot in the top four on a ton of teams. It sucks but this is what happens when your team develops defensemen as good as the Canes do.
