Be honest: You had no idea he was still in the league, did you?
-
Some details courtesy of Albert Breer... - The Falcons relationship with Jones had been "strained" for years due to contract disputes - The Ravens had been interested a while back, but dropped out after drafting a receiver - Atlanta attempted to trade him during the draft, but nobody wanted to pay the price they were asking - Just as many people thought, Jones didn't know he was on the air when he was talking to Shannon Sharpe - A number of teams were interested as the calendar approached June, but interest fizzled in most places - Despite prior claims, nobody ever actually offered a first round pick - Also despite some speculation, the Patriots were never interested - The Titans original offer was a conditional third that could be upgraded to a second, but they ultimately moved up as well as agreeing to take on Jones' pay for this season Full story here: MMQB for 6/7/21

Panthers make another front office move
Mr. Scot replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
There's only two left in the front office at this point. Executive Director of Player Personnel Jeff Morrow is one, and he's taking a reduced role. He'll be working as a "consultant" in the college scouting department (after previously running it). I suspect he retires next offseason. The other is Director of Pro Personnel Matt Allen (also known as Jerry Richardson's grandson). I figured he'd be the first one out the door given the family connection but reports are he'll probably stay because apparently he's genuinely good at his job and we'll liked in the organization. -
Rapoport said the Falcons needed this trade to go through just to be able to sign their draft picks.

Nit pick: Scouting staff isn't technically "front office" -
Not quite a done deal yet, but it's getting there.

How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?
Mr. Scot replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not the same staff. Rhule and Fitterer reviewed Darnold's entire career before trading for him, and also asked themselves what they needed to do to support him. Throw in Matt Rhule saying stuff like "every throw is not a referendum". I know some fans don't believe in him, and some of us (like me) don't know yet, but the team has shown a certain level of commitment that tells me he'll get a shot, and patience. -

I do. For one, PR is right. Whether fans agree with the idea or not, the team is basically treating him like a rookie. Also throw in that they picked up his fifth year option for next year. -
Especially if it's somebody from a team that runs a similar system. (no, not Taysom Hill)
-
The fact that we were allowed five tryout players and two of them were quarterbacks makes me think they've at least considered that we need some improvement there.
-
Well, there's still time for that.
-
He was traded to a better team with better coaching. What's changed from Walker throwing 5 picks to 1 touchdown less than a year ago? I'd like to believe you're not actually this stupid but you're certainly working hard to convince me.
-
It's still stupid.
-
Hope so. I genuinely don't feel comfortable with our current backup options.
-
Not much...at all. We've already seen how Walker looks when he's not playing the worst defense in the league. Heck, even against the Lions he had issues. Igo is right. He's not an NFL quarterback. And your trying to pump him up just makes you look dumb. What's even dumber though is this whole "I want the Panthers to lose so they can see they were wrong to let Newton go". First off, they weren't. Newton is in decline, and the fact that only one team was willing to give him a minimal, incentive laden contract demonstrates that pretty much everyone knows it. More to the point though, you sound like a whiny five year old whose parents just took away their toys. Now you're gonna hold your breath till you turn blue because I'LL SHOW THEM!!! Yeesh Reality is we don't know whether Darnold is going to be the answer or not, but anybody with even minimal football knowledge knows that PJ Walker isn't. "Open competition" is the stupidest suggestion I've seen in a long time. Bottom line though? Newton is gone. His story here should have ended better but it didn't, and that's reality for most players in the NFL. Get over it.
-
Everything you know about football wouldn't fill a Post-It note.
-
So you want the team to lose because you're mad about Newton. Besides being lousy fanhood, that's some really dumbass reasoning.
-
Side Note: from Chiefs OTAs, how not to celebrate...
-
The hard part is knowing what that also means.

Ian Thomas on Sam Darnold: 'He's the Quarterback That We Need'
Mr. Scot replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Cleveland Browns approve of this post. -
The "open competition" suggestion is one of the flat out stupidest things I've seen in a long time.
