How close did the Panthers come to getting Stafford? Dang close.
Mr. Scot replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I was never a big fan of allowing the fear of hurting somebody's feelings to affect roster decisions. It's one of the reasons I'm glad Ron and Marty are gone. -
He is, and it could be. I do think it's newsworthy but I'm not necessarily inclined to make much of it right now. Course, some of us also said that when the Saints news first broke.
-
Doesn't necessarily sound like it's on the level of the Saints, but could be... interesting.

Remmers starting at LT for the SB

After what JPP said about him, I'm actually hoping he does well. -
Gruden's long had what I call a lottery ticket mentality when it comes to quarterbacks. "Okay, we tried this one and it wasn't an instant winner so let's buy another one." That's not unusual for fans, but it's not a good mindset for a professional coach.
-
Well, you'd have to start with the premise that you're Jon Gruden. From there, a lot of things become possible.
-
Plus Carr isn't likely to generate the kind of offers that Stafford did.

After watching Newman in the Senior Bowl, the only way I'd take him is as an undrafted free agent. -
Should be less than Stafford. Can't exactly guarantee the Raiders will be reasonable on that though.
-
I've heard that before. The Panthers are going to keep exploring other avenues, and they should. They just might not come out with what they want.
-
He got enough of one to be given an ESPN show for it. And honestly, the show was good. With that said, asking Jon Gruden for advice on how to develop a quarterback is a lot like acting Tommy Wiseau how to become an award winning actor/director.

One of the great unsolved mysteries of the world is how the hell Jon Gruden got a rep for being a quarterback guru.
-
He ain't his brother. I'd be okay with looking into it.

Not sure if anyone here follows Torrey Smith, but if you're a Stafford critic you might not want to see what he had to say on this. He was a tad...blunt. -

We know we offered #8 plus another pick, probably 4th or 5th round based on what I've read. May have offered Bridgewater too. We also know that our draft pick was the highest one offered. -
Panthers offered "More than a 1st" for Stafford
Mr. Scot replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
It almost happened... So who finished second in the Matthew Stafford derby? I’m told the Panthers, at one point on Saturday, were to the point where they were in the process of obtaining Stafford’s medicals from Detroit. Obviously, things changed from there, with the Rams’ persistence and aggression winning the day. But if you figured the Panthers’ haul for Stafford was strong—the eighth pick, plus another pick—then I’d say the sellers in this equation would agree with you, because they almost took it. Link -
Stafford didn’t want to come to the Panthers

Our buddy Ellis, quoting Albert Breer... Stafford was thisclose to being a Panther. So yeah, Simms story is bullsh-t. -

I'm not even sure it's a power split so much as it's just that they have different roles. Officially speaking at least, Rhule has final say on the roster. -
I'll absolutely watch the Super Bowl itself. I'm just not sure I'll watch any of the coverage leading up to it.
-
Well, Breer speculates they might, but nobody expects it to be anytime soon. When he was asked in a recent mailbag column where Watson will be playing next year, he said this... In the column linked above, he added... John McClain actually thinks they should talk trade, but acknowledges they're adamant that they're not gonna trade him.
-
In the tweet itself and a little after 1:25 into the video... Also here: MMQB - 2/2/21 John McClain and Aaron Wilson have both acknowledged it as well.
-
I'd take that. Extend Moton and you've got bookend tackles for years to come.
