I feel very strongly about this... Derek Carr.

Or Jared Goff... -
I've said in a couple of places that the people making comparisons to Cam Newton don't really remember just how unique Newton was. And that's another problem with nostalgia scouting. You go looking for the next version of a prior star but what you wind up with is the Wish version. Mentioned it previously, but Bill Polian thinking he was getting the next Jim Kelly when he drafted Kerry Collins is a prime example of that.

Would you take Eric sleeping with Bieniemy as OC?
Mr. Scot replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Eeehhh, I don't know about that. Bieniemy is trying to prove to people that it's him, not Andy Reid. It is possible however that it turns out it really was Andy Reid. -
Yeah, he and a couple other guys bailed out as I recall. At least one of them actually ended up back with Rhule in Nebraska (Marcus Satterfield)
-
Heh Kudos for that one.

If you think my viewpoint is wrong, why didn't you just ignore it? (it's a discussion board)

What Reich primarily wants (at least from what he said so far) is accuracy, intelligence and good footwork. He considers mobility a plus, especially given the way quarterbacks are trending these days, but stated that a quarterback has to be able to win "from the pocket". -
Didn't quote him so much as answered the question you were asking from my own perspective. I don't know what his answer is.

Just did... But no, that's not my first time. Hence why I said I don't like those kind of comparisons in general.
-
Which one?

Wouldn't so much say it bothers me as I just think it's kinda silly. Getting "the next (insert name here)" Is something I see a lot. Levis will be the next Josh Allen, somebody else will be the next Aaron Rodgers, etc etc. Said elsewhere that I know a lot of internet draftniks like using pro comparisons, but to me it's sort of lazy. Just evaluate their strengths and weaknesses rather than trying to make them the next whomever.

At the time, our prospects were Shane Steichen, Steve Wilks and Sean Payton so it was a reasonable joke. BUT ITS WRONG!!!

It'd be a little overboard to call Carr "trash" but while it doesn't necessarily happen all the time, improving one's situation by going elsewhere isn't all that rare. Jeff Garcia was a prime example. He could look like a world beater as long as you were running a West Coast Offense. Outside that, not so much. More recent examples would be Kirk Cousins rejuvenating his career in Minnesota or Jared Goff in Detroit. Hell, you could even point to Matt Stafford. -
Previous TE coach who if I recall correctly was one of the guys who bailed on Rhule last offseason... (probably saw where things were headed)

Which is also why the general speculation is he's gonna go with somebody young at OC. -
I can't answer for him, but I can answer the question. Basing your evaluation of a quarterback on his similarity to a previous favorite player is kinda silly. If you want to win, what you should be looking for is the best quarterback who fits your system available now. You're not looking for nostalgia, you're looking for competence. Maybe that's someone with similarities to a previous favorite, maybe it's not. Either way, prioritizing that as part of your search is a pretty good path to making a poor decision.

That's not a comparison I can give any validity to. One, pretty sure it's been noted that Reich wasn't the guy who decided to pursue Ryan. As far as Wentz, the idea was that if anyone could fix him, it would be Reich since that's who he had his best days under. Also worth noting that he did improve, just didn't return to form. -
One other note from the now finished coaching search... WRONG!!!

To be fair, is it really wise to assume that Frank Reich would fail at something just because Matt Rhule did? That'd be kind of like saying Tom Hanks could never win an Oscar because Adam Sandler can't. -

Side Note: This is what Howe had to say about Russell Wilson in the article linked above There’s skepticism Wilson can be salvaged by new Broncos head coach Sean Payton. According to multiple league officials, in recent years with the Seahawks and Broncos, Wilson wanted too much say in the offense, preferring a pocket-passing scheme similar to Tom Brady’s and Aaron Rodgers’ rather than one that highlighted his mobility. Though it’s perfectly normal for a starting quarterback to have some say in the scheme, Wilson’s contentions raised red flags, officials said. His greatest quality is his deep ball, and Wilson wanted to push the ball downfield too frequently, particularly on early downs when short passes underneath the coverage can be viewed as a more valuable play, complementary to the running game. If Wilson wants to get back on track, the belief is that he’ll need to be open to a run-heavy offense with read-option traits and taking what the defense gives him, according to those who have studied him from near and afar. -

There's also a clause that says if he gets injured, his salary for next year is guaranteed. That's led to speculation that his participation in this weekend's Pro Bowl flag football game might be making the Raiders a tad nervous. -

To be fair, Chris Ballard could also have been the guy behind that. If it was Reich though, then I'd say there's a decent chance Carr fans might get their wish -

From The Athletic's national NFL writer Jeff Howe: A resolution is looming with Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, as $40.4 million of his contract will become fully guaranteed Feb. 15. The Raiders will almost certainly trade or release Carr by that deadline, and quarterback-needy teams believe a release is the more likely scenario. The Raiders have very little leverage because Carr has a no-trade clause, and interested teams believe they can sign Carr for a more favorable contract than the one they’d have to trade to inherit.
