  1. Side Note: This is what Howe had to say about Russell Wilson in the article linked above There’s skepticism Wilson can be salvaged by new Broncos head coach Sean Payton. According to multiple league officials, in recent years with the Seahawks and Broncos, Wilson wanted too much say in the offense, preferring a pocket-passing scheme similar to Tom Brady’s and Aaron Rodgers’ rather than one that highlighted his mobility. Though it’s perfectly normal for a starting quarterback to have some say in the scheme, Wilson’s contentions raised red flags, officials said. His greatest quality is his deep ball, and Wilson wanted to push the ball downfield too frequently, particularly on early downs when short passes underneath the coverage can be viewed as a more valuable play, complementary to the running game. If Wilson wants to get back on track, the belief is that he’ll need to be open to a run-heavy offense with read-option traits and taking what the defense gives him, according to those who have studied him from near and afar.
  2. There's also a clause that says if he gets injured, his salary for next year is guaranteed. That's led to speculation that his participation in this weekend's Pro Bowl flag football game might be making the Raiders a tad nervous.
  3. To be fair, Chris Ballard could also have been the guy behind that. If it was Reich though, then I'd say there's a decent chance Carr fans might get their wish
  4. From The Athletic's national NFL writer Jeff Howe: A resolution is looming with Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, as $40.4 million of his contract will become fully guaranteed Feb. 15. The Raiders will almost certainly trade or release Carr by that deadline, and quarterback-needy teams believe a release is the more likely scenario. The Raiders have very little leverage because Carr has a no-trade clause, and interested teams believe they can sign Carr for a more favorable contract than the one they’d have to trade to inherit. 5. Just to add a general note here, "he reminds me of Cam Newton" is not a valid quarterback scouting observation. It's more a wishful (and often wishful) statement from a nostalgic fan. Yeah, I know a lot of internet scouts like to do the pro comparison thing but I've always found that kinda lazy. It's really not the kind of tool a pro scout would rely on. Trying to find the next whomever isn't good scouting. Just look at the guys that are there anf evaluate them as themselves. Just for context, one of the reasons Bill Polian drafted Kerry Collins was because he reminded him of Jim Kelly. That didn't exactly pan out either
  6. Evero... "He's not leaving, and we're not replacing him or anything. Interviewing other people for his position is just due diligence."
  7. Former player comment on Fangio...
  8. I'm not scared of signing Carr. He's better than our previous options work. I get why folks don't want to go with another "veteran reclamation project" but you also have to look at the player himself. How much actual "reclamation" is really involved in sighing Carr? We're not talking about another Sam Darnold here.
  9. Well, ya gotta figure all the other teams in the division are looking for upgrades just like us.
  10. Shame about that extension, huh?
  11. I prefer to tell somebody "good post" or something. (just a personal quirk)
  12. Little more on the Carr situation
  13. He might not get one, though. Either way, my understanding is he's currently still under contract with the Broncos so they don't technically have a defensive coordinator position open at this time. Unless they do
  14. Not sure seeing as they don't technically have an opening. Evero is under contract. Hence why interviewing an outside candidate could conceivably be a sign that he's not continuing there.
  15. Also in the area of coaching... Jackson approved?
  16. That's conceivably noteworthy to fans of Ejiro Evero
  17. Speaking of the Pro Bowl... Another upcoming deadline is the 15th. If he's still on the team and nothing is agreed to by that time, he gets a bonus or some such. Other NFL teams know it so they figure they don't have to offer the Raiders anything, just sit back and watch.
  18. I saw some clips of some of the competitions and I honestly disagree. I thought it looked kinda fun. But yeah, the actual "football" game is this weekend.
  19. Doubt we'll ever know if the team said anything directly to Wilks about Holcomb, but Smitty is correct in saying he could at least conceivably have read the tea leaves. And yeah staffing was, by all accounts, a big factor in this search. If you weren't selling people that made the team feel good, well...
  20. I think he's referring to the guy you were quoting. Also, you're not a guy
  21. A thread not strictly related to coaching news, but starting off...
