They were looking at Mayfield before they ever drafted Corral, before they even knew they would have a chance to draft him. And realistically, minicamp wouldn't have presented a sufficient opportunity to evaluate a rookie.

I don't think the interest in Mayfield had anything to do with Matt Corral. It likely had everything to do with Sam Darnold. The plan for Corral was always to sit him a year.
