Good grief, that's a long time ago

To be fair, that's probably more on Les Snead.

Starting to get the impression that having Matt Patricia run the offense might not be the best idea

That's a lotta wives... Not mine, of course

The quote from Will Blackmon wasn't about a big play though.

My high school teachers used to say I had a photographic memory. That was a while ago

Guessing this is one of the reasons he's good...

Corral has obvious physical tools. I think anybody with even a middling knowledge of football can see that clearly. What's harder to judge with any player, but especially a quarterback, is their mental skill and processing speed. Until you see them on the field in a real game situation, that's going to be the big question.

Drafting and free agency don't necessarily get credited to Rhule, especially not this year. As far as the other, show me wins and then we can talk.

Johnson is one of the examples for why I want to see consistency. He won in Dallas at a time when there was no salary cap and you could basically just outspend for all the best talent. On top of that, he was the beneficiary of another team's GM makiing the dumbest move of his career. Take away the advantages Cowboys Johnson had and you get Dolphins Johnson. (don't anybody tell Lady Cowboy Fan I said that or I'll be in big trouble) And yes, guys can look dominant within a narrow window. That's the thing about one of Rivera's coaching awards. It came after a season where Mike Shula looked like a great OC. But truly great coaches adapt, and when someone figured out how to beat Shula's scheme, he didn't have an answer. Yet Rivera still kept him in place. Personnel evaluation, whether it was on the field or on the sideline, was never Rivera's strong suit.
-
I'd never cheer gor my team to fail... But the thing about hoping that Rhule will improve is that in order to do that, you have to believe he's capable. You have to have it in your mind that he's genuinely got the potential to be a great NFL coach and we just haven't seen it yet. A lot of us don't believe that. Frankly, I have yet to see a reason to think anything of the sort.

Coach of the Year tends to go to guys who outperform expectations, but outside of the times when it's been awarded to Bill Belichick it rarely goes to a coach who wins a championship. As to Rivera, both he and John Fox produced decent seasons, but neither produced consistency. The truly great coaches don't just flash once in a while. They win on a regular basis.

From this year's Hard Knocks... I don't have HBO Max, but if I see many more clips like this I might have to spring for it

They posted a clip of the play...

Not hard to buy that the culture could be good. Doesn't mean we're gonna win games though. And the comments about three quarterbacks have been regarding the active roster. They're not counting practice squad when they say that.
-
Already lost Jensen, and now they're down his backup? They're gonna be hurting at center. Maybe we should offer to trade Elflein
-
I like a lot of what he's done, but I acknowledge that Fitterer's grade as a GM is still incomplete. Do I trust him more than Matt Rhule though? Yeah.
-
Pretty sure I've seen it in prior depth charts, but at those times it may have been legitimate competition. Elflein vs Bozeman is kinda hard to see is legitimate. Again, the issue comes down to trust.
-
Nah. It's about trust. Scott Fitterer could say something I really didn't want to hear and I'd probably believe him. Matt Rhule could say something I absolutely want to hear and I'd just as likely call bullsh-t. Not everything Matt Rhule says is stupid, but given his poor performance as a head coach over the last two seasons, when he does say dumb sh-t, it gets magnified.
-
This is a valid point. I would acknowledge at the same time that there likely is roster improvement from last year to this year at least in some areas, offense for sure. Defense? Less certain, but that's where we've spent most of our time building previously.

Thanks
