It brings up a question. I know there were a lot of folks who wanted the Panthers to keep Newton around at least for the final year of his contract. But now that we know just how bad Matt Rhule really is, I wonder how many would still say that would have been the best thing for him.

I'd take the job. Then I'd hire Nathaniel Hackett and let him choose his own staff and run everything while I sat back and played the role of a paid consultant.

Earlier in the season, I remember saying "well at least we're good enough to beat bad teams". Turns out we weren't.

The schedule that is, not the team Ellis also points out that while our strength of schedule up to this point is buoyed by the Cardinals, it's kind of an illusion since they were without major starters. So technically, our early season strength of schedule should be even weaker.

At the time, I took a look back at his Broncos staffs in 2009 and 2010. There were some good names on that list, and a couple might be available again if he gets a new job.

I was a huge critic of Rivera, but at this point I'd take him over Rhule. For a guy whose background was supposed to be in offensive line, it seems to be a position he knows nothing about.

Stuff we're seeing from the players lately makes me wonder if Rhule isn't preaching an "us against the world" sort of philosophy in the locker room. That's the kind of thing desperate coaches do sometimes. In reality, "the world" isn't against the Panthers. It's just against their stupid coaching.

Ugh. What an absolutely moronic take

The term "college atmosphere" was used. The NFL is a business, run by adults who often get paid more money than their coaches. Coaching and motivating those guys is way more complex than yelling at a college kid.

Not me. Someone else on here posted not too long ago that folks inside the building aren't real big fans of Matt Rhule. Nothing too specific but some mention of his possibly being a tad unprofessional. On the flipside, they apparently really like Scott Fitterer and think he could build a pretty good team...minus Rhule.

I've heard stories that George Seifert was a colossal a--hole. Also heard some talk that while John Fox himself wasn't necessarily a bad guy, his wife majorly ruffled feathers inside the Panthers offices. On the flipside, there was near universal belief that Ron Rivera was a peach. Rhule? Well...we've heard a few whispers. For me, I mean hell I never even had any personal dislike for Marty friggin' Hurney. Someone being bad at their job just isn't a valid reason to hate them. But I'll confess, there's a part of me that thinks Rhule might genuinely be a rather doslikeable person.

Nope. Just went back and looked at the last several drafts to see how much credibility your suggestion that every draft "customarily" has a franchise quarterback available in the first round ("you just have to find them") actually had. Turns out it was bullsh-t.

At the very least Rhule should lose personel decisions.

I get that there are people who think a new quarterback is the answer to every problem. But I'd also like to think several of us understand that's not really true. -
You hear him talk about how John Miller might be healthy again soon as if having back in the starting lineup would be a big positive. He does...not...get it
-
What happens then? We platoon three quarterbacks?
-
Translation: Matt Rhule will continue to operate as if he were still coaching at the college level.

With Rhule and company in charge of his development? -

I honestly can't remember, but early would make sense because there wasn't any tape on him yet. Maybe Rivera late last year because Ron was too stubborn to pull Haskins, but Ron got him this year. -

It's not like he's anything special as a gameday coach. I mean, even when we've won games, does anyone here remember a time when they thought to themselves "Rhule really outcoached that guy"? -

I can understand the idea but I don't think it helps. He'd still be in charge of depth chart and on-field decisions as well as setting the system. And let's be real: If you have to take these sorts of measures, why are you even keeping him? -
Customarily, eh? Just looking back at the last 15 or so years, we have... 2016 1st Round 1 - Jared Goff, Rams 2 - Carson Wentz - Eagles 26 - Paxton Lynch, Broncos 2015 1st Round 1 - Jameis Winston, Buccaneers 2 - Marcus Mariota, Titans 2014 1st Round 3 - Blake Bortles, Jaguars 22 - Johnny Manziel, Browns 32 - Teddy Bridgewater, Vikings 2013 1st Round 16 - EJ Manuel, Bills 2010 1st Round 1 - Sam Bradford, Rams 25 - Tim Teebow, Broncos 2007 1st Round 1 - JaMarcus Russell, Raiders 22 - Brady Quinn, Browns 2006 1st Round 3 - Vince Young, Titans 10 - Matt Leinart, Cardinals 11 - Jay Cutler, Broncos So...seven years out of sixteen where no franchise quarterback was found, and that's even allowing for the most recent drafts where the jury is realistically still out. Doesn't exactly look all that "customary"

Didn't catch it in this clip but saw elsewhere that the Lions declined the delay of game penalty.
