Other teams have a tendency to be kind of inconsiderate when it comes to helping our cause. (bastards)
-
Also, to no one's surprise, it sounds like Payton's already being a dick...
-
Another guy not joining us (thank God) just signed his contract with his new employer... Word Is it's a give year deal, but I haven't seen any confirmation as to whether he got the kind of salary he was looking for.
-
Not that I've seen. Could be mixing us up with Tampa.

The college game is very different from the pro game these days. A quarterback who can run is way more effective at that level, even if their passing is only mediocre.

Reich has worked directly with Scott's uncle Ron Turner, but not with daddy Norv Turner as far as I know. Ron's son Cam is currently with the Cardinals staff so he's kind of in limbo. Scott was fired by our old buddy, and close friend of Norv, Ron Rivera. (wonder if that's had any effect on their relationship)

True... Good post

Would you take Eric sleeping with Bieniemy as OC?

Mike Kaye talked a little bit about it earlier today. -
In that particular case, I'd say he was joking. And truth be told, he had a pretty decent chance of being right. He just wasn't.

Nagy made his reputation working for Andy Reid... ...same as Bieniemy. -

So did Matt Nagy at one point, as I recall. Heck, word these days is the Chiefs would prefer Nagy as a successor to Reid over Bieniemy. Bieniemy is leaving the Chiefs because he knows what the perception of him is and wants to disprove it. There is a chance, however, that he proves that perception correct. -
Scott Turner...

And that proves he can be good somewhere else...how? There are a couple of others I could think of, but they're on the defensive side of the ball. Anybody who works under an established coach on the same side of the ball is going to get that question. Joe Lombardi could tell you that. -

Yeah, that doesn't really mean anything. I'm pretty sure Bill Belichick endorses every member of his staff too, but how many of them have actually been successful elsewhere? -
I'd say that gets balanced out by the coaches that try to make somebody into another Cam Newton when they're really not. True dual threats in general are way more rare than people think, especially at the college level. A good number of the QBs who get lazily labeled "dual threats" are really just running quarterbacks who can kind of pass or passers who can sort of run (with the former being more common).

There was...extensive discussion on that front

I get that. I just don't see nostalgia and scouting as a good mix. Like I said before, just find the best player available right now who fits your system. Who they happen to remind you of doesn't really mean anything. And hell, for the folks who do want to compare something, most of the guys they bring up would more closely compare to Michael Vick than Cam Newton. Newton was a really unique type of player. Hoping to find another one like him is kind of like looking for the next Julius Peppers. There's not going to be another Newton for a while.

I feel very strongly about this... Derek Carr.
Mr. Scot replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeeeahhh, no he doesn't. And I feel pretty comfortable saying he's gonna get more than "a season". -
Last year we had people saying the next Cam Newton could be found in Malik Willis. Does that still sound like a valid comparison?

I don't necessarily think I'd judge whether I want to avoid anything based on the fact that Matt Rule failed at it. That'd negate an awful lot of stuff -

Or Jared Goff... -
I've said in a couple of places that the people making comparisons to Cam Newton don't really remember just how unique Newton was. And that's another problem with nostalgia scouting. You go looking for the next version of a prior star but what you wind up with is the Wish version. Mentioned it previously, but Bill Polian thinking he was getting the next Jim Kelly when he drafted Kerry Collins is a prime example of that.

Eeehhh, I don't know about that. Bieniemy is trying to prove to people that it's him, not Andy Reid. It is possible however that it turns out it really was Andy Reid. -
Yeah, he and a couple other guys bailed out as I recall. At least one of them actually ended up back with Rhule in Nebraska (Marcus Satterfield)
