I don't think morale appears to be bad, do you? If that were the case, how have we won four games? Yeah, that's a little different scenario. He was also pissed last year too about not getting enough targets. -

I don't think it's a stunting because if they have the abilities, they aren't magically going to lose them due to lack of game opportunities. Were that the case, backup players would be utterly useless as they just sit and watch. XL's lack of development is solely of his own doing. I don't doubt that any WR is going to be happier with more opportunities but I also don't think Winston(or anyone else, for that matter) is suddenly going to transform our entire offense into 40-50 passes a game. I will say it's possible and given the player you are talking about that certainly might have to be an option more often than not but that doesn't really seem to fit Canales style in general. -

If you look at the way the modern NFL has trended, it's dramatically away from TO prone gunslingers. There are also gunslingers in this era that are substantially less TO prone(Mahomes, Mayfield, etc). Favre was in the old era. I have said that about Winston his entire career. He is just Brett Favre. Had he been a starter in that era, he would have been a beloved QB. Alas, different era. -

Certainly but the TO prone guys also tend to take the wind out of the sails of their teammates in pretty quick fashion. Certainly wouldn't argue they will get many more chances, especially since we would be pretty far behind in most of our matchups. Not gonna argue against Winston's ability either. I don’t think the growth of these guys is likely getting as stunted as you assume. As stated above, the morale issue is likely going to weigh heavier on them than you think. -
Yeah but that was an abnormal situation. Flacco wasn't getting the results and wasn't going to be a part of their future. There isn't an equivalent situation that makes us better or makes sense for us. Especially not at a bargain bin price. You want to trade for a guy like Tua? Well....good luck with the price AND the contract. There is a dearth of quality starting QB's. That also means there aren't a bunch of them sitting on the bench elsewhere.

Chucking 25+ INT's isn't as conducive to growth as you think. -
Better at piling up yards but also far better at piling up TO's. That's why those guys are currently 3rd string QB's. It looks great when it's working and it looks really bad when it isn't.

It means do it again. Like....several times a season, preferably. You know, like a first round draft pick is supposed to? As far as that as being some unachievable metric, at least that many receptions was accomplished in 6 games by other first round rookie WR's and at least that many yards was accomplished in 13 games by other first round rookies last season. And that was just last year, I can assure you that has happened several times with those same players this year already. So acting like this is some startlingly rare production is more than a bit ridiculous.

You guys are aware that Dalton got injured last season and that is why Bryce returned, right? He kept the job because that was when Bryce started getting hot(well, by his standards anyway) and that time DC decided to ride the hot hand.
-
More evidence, basically. This is a more capable offense than last year, IMO.
-
Yeah, I mean if the offense looks substantially more logical with Dalton, I think the obvious answer suddenly becomes undeniable. Bryce is the problem. If Dalton struggles for obviously Dalton related reasons, you have to pivot. Or maybe it also shows Bryce isn't THE biggest problem, as well. I am glad we get to see some moving parts to figure some of this all out.
-
Nah. That braintrust would already have signed him to a top 5 contract. No thanks. Well technically he lost his job to a car accident.
-
Eh....sounds like longer than next week. High ankle sprain.

Bryce already has issues moving away from pressure. I would say rushing him back is a really bad idea. -

High ankle sprain is typically weeks. -
I have no issues with Dalton on a few games. If Bryce is out long term, that's probably a different discussion. I am just not in the camp that believes Dalton is washed up. Not as good as his prime, absolutely. I mean, the arm difference between him and Bryce just yesterday was pretty obvious. Not much of a bar, I do realize that. Still, I would say give it a chance next week. If he looks absolutely washed and Bryce is out for a while, pivot to another option.
-
If he keeps that play up, for sure. Long season. We need him to sustain it.
-
I am not in the camp that thinks you are gonna see better offense with Winston/Howell than Dalton. Dalton is a somewhat TO prone gunslinger, those two guys have never seen a window or coverage situation they wouldn't throw into. We really don't have the receiving corps to be snagging those kind of wrestling match balls, IMO. Sure, in a different scenario, I would have been all over Flacco. He can at least run and offense and not cripple us with TO's. That's the issue I have with the gunslinging TO machine, we have already proven we are really capable of losing when our current TO machine QB does exactly that(5 TO's in the 3 losses, 4 TO's in the 4 wins).
-
If that were true the Geno Smith stories would be all over the place. Also, the league would be flooded with extremely capable QB's, which it assuredly is not. Don't get me wrong, I am sure some QB's have literally been ruined by their circumstances. David Carr comes to mind. But I do think that is the far rarer case. Most of these guys just aren't good enough. It is what it is.
-
Jameis and Howell will extremely effectively lose games. Unsure if they will lose them more effectively than Hooker. I am just not seeing the benefit for adding a third string QB. We aren't gonna tote a third stringer all season, I would think.
-
I mean two of those guys are literally starting for their teams so you can eliminate them as a possibility. Hienicke is not on an NFL roster. We can literally just sign him. Garopollo is the primary backup for an oft-injured QB, so unless they really like Stetson Bennett, I am not sure how viable that is. Also, Garopollo is literally worse than Dalton and significantly more injury prone.
-
I mean we did literally build an entire offense specifically around him and crafted a historically bad defense as a direct result. I think the larger issue is the QB panic in the overall NFL. It makes some of these QB's get drafted WAAAAAAY too high and often in places where development isn't going to happen. You gotta play because they drafted you that high. Other people's careers are literally in the hands of that decision. Yes it can definitely wreck some QB's but IMO the overwhelming majority of those guys that end up busts....they were always going to be busts. I mean, Jayden Daniels didn't bust. Drake Maye didn't bust. Those guys were drafted by bad teams too. So, if Cam Ward is gonna work out he will work out. If Bryce is gonna work out, he will work out. If Michael Penis Jr. is gonna work out, he will work out.
