Sam Darnold’s Market Value per Spotrac
Carl Spackler replied to ECHornet's topic in Carolina Panthers
Andy Dalton lost to Sam Darnold lol -
It would make sense to create some threads dedicated to the candidates, instead of one 250-page thread.

Tepper clearly wants to change the Panthers identity

I can judge him on winning more games in 12 tries than the push-all-the-chips-in-and-go-for-it coach got in 17. WIth a staff and roster he didn't pick, he went 3-4 against teams with winning records. If you think that's bad, prepare yourself for the record of his predecessors. -

How many full seasons has he coached? -

I'd rather have someone who can step in when that rookie inevitably sucks or is hurt. Winning games is kinda fun. I'd certainly hope Darnold realizes he's not a starter. -

I'd rather he try, too, if I believed we could get better with him trying. Because that will never be the case, I'm good with settling. -

This goes back to my point that most of the Huddle spends its paychecks on lottery tickets. Sure, there's a great chance you're gonna lose, but you might win -

I really do not think that Tepper will ever hire a coach with a better record than what Wilks just put together. Incompetent owners pick incompetent GMs and incompetent coaches. -
funny how several of those names from the past got you to two Super Bowls and a 15-1 record, while Tepper Flunkies have gotten four top-10 picks and counting. Even more amusing: the only time this team showed any fight in five years was December/January, with one of those guys coaching

How does going way off the reservation in trying to be cool, fun and innovative look? like this

This next hire will be really set up well to take a HC job with a P5 school in three years. -

Probably a lot. Notice the point totals rose once Jackson hurt his achilles and Horn took his annual vacation days. -

Tepper has been very proactive in changing a lot about the Panthers since 2018. To his credit, every change has been a major downgrade.- 180 replies

Backup QBs are expected to manage games while the starter is out and do what it takes to win. He did that. They're not gonna throw for 325 yards every week, because if they did, they wouldn't be backup QBs in the first place. I'll say this: if you tell me our rookie QB, this fall, has 7 TD and 1 INT in his first five starts, I'm gonna say he's pretty solid, even if it's based on a great running game. In the event that QB is a veteran, I'm still gonna say a 7-1 TD-INT ratio is solid. This team hasn't had a starting or backup-level QB for years. Darnold is better than a lot of trash backups out there. I wouldn't go into Week 1 with him tops on a depth chart, though.

That's why I want Wilks. Not because he's 1A, but because he's far better than anyone Tepper can find. Plus, the players want him -- which, when he's not chosen, keep an eye on how tough it is to lure FAs here without paying twice the market rate.

It's also worth considering that the odds of Tepper hiring someone like Nathaniel Hackett, or even Nathaniel Hackett himself, are overwhelming. It's almost a guarantee at this point. Then, looking back, people will wish Wilks was kept.
