UNC homers.

Sure, agree. To be fair, none of those guys have been in the league as long as Sam or Baker. But I also don't expect any of them to develop into good starters in the future like Sam and Baker did. There are absolutely more QBs that have failed and been discarded than examples like Sam. My only point is that each player is unique and can develop at their own pace. Maybe it's too slow for the team. Maybe they don't put in the work, etc. But not being a star by year 4 isn't a death sentence.

Your comment is ironic considering it's in a thread about Sam Darnold. Who didn't play well in the NFL until his 7TH season! Now I'm not advocating that we would or should ever keep Bryce around longer than next season unless he plays great. But I think Sam (and Baker to a certain extent) have shown that QBs can still continue to develop after many years in the league.

Good point.

Pipe down? I haven't said anything that's not common sense. I'm not claiming he's a top 5 QB or worthy of the trade assets we gave up for him or the future franchise. I'm just saying that he's had several great games and deserves a 5th year option at the reasonable salary. Maybe next year he puts it all together. If he does, GREAT. If he doesn't, well that sucks and time to find a new QB.
-
This ENTIRE thread is based on him getting a 5th year option. He has earned it. He's currently player with too much high/lows to justify a long term deal and to build around completely. Even at that, he's better than many current starters. You are blind if you think he didn't have several extremely impressive games this season. I'm not blind. He also had several terrible games. You think he sucks and would never change your opinion no matter what you see on the field. You are also wrong. If he doesn't eliminate his clunkers then you cut him and find your next QB. No goalposts being moved.

I've been here since the forum started IN 2008! It's an X through Fitterer because I couldn't stand him. Very troll like behavior.
-
Enjoy being wrong again. The majority of the league's media and NFL decision makers (including our own front office and coaching staff) know it's a no brainer to sign a 5th year option and see what happens. But hey, keep up the good work with your hot takes.

Penix/Cousins Fields McCarthy Ward Tua Murray/Brissett Geno Smith His good games have been elite level. His bad games have been barely worth of a roster. That's inconsistency. Give him another year to see if he can level that out. If not, move on.
-
Why do some of you always post with hyperbole. Most of them suck at this point. And Willis is probably getting a similar contract to the 5th year option for BY.
-
Yes it does. Your posts are usually wrong.
-
It is. Dan and Brandt have shown that they are prudent. He's not just going to say "No, we don't discuss a deal". Agents and players wouldn't like that. There is no reason to rush a contract. See how next year plays out and then make your decision.
-
Guess you posted the same thing 2x so I could poo you again.
-
No. He has been one of (if not he most) inconsistent players in the NFL. Extreme highs and extreme lows. Based on those highs, he has 100% earned a 5th year. Based on the lows, he has shown we can't give him a long term deal yet.
-
It's the move that makes the most sense. He gets another year. If he shows another year of growth and more consistency then you can potentially build a long term deal. If he doesn't grow, then you haven't committed too much resources to him and the team can still be built up outside of the QB room. We definitely need a new veteran QB to be a backup and push BY if he isn't playing well.
-
This is insane. He was not a POOR thrower. I'll give you that Allen is a better passer at this stage. But your comment is extremely controversial and an insult to him.
-
I'd take Tet if he fell to 8 depending on what blue chip defenders are left. I really wish we had seen more from XL so we wouldn't feel concerned about WR room but he completely disappeared.
-
Yes, that same defense. They aren't a great defense but they are middle of the road with multiple stars in the secondary and a star pass rusher. OL and Bryce played great; that why there was not one hit, hurry, or pressure. Glad I could answer that question for you.
-
Except Penix has top tier skill position talent, the kick that was missed was a 57 yarder, and the Atlanta defense is 10X better than Carolina's. He's still a baller but those team similarities are not the same.
-
Their scheme is remarkably similar. 3-4 but mostly play out of the 3-3-5. Terrible against the run. Soft zone.
-
1 game. On a roster with prime Adrian Peterson, Stefon Diggs, and Thielen. lol. Only 1 other game the rest of that season did he have more than 1 TD. They aren't the same player at all.
-
Hunt didn't even play in this game. But a valid point.
-
Yes, I can get behind that. Everybody within the organization needs to allow some patience and allow players/coaches to develop. I would've preferred to replace him for Salah but I will support Dave in his decision.
-
He hand picked Woods and Fuller. Both suck. But yes, safety room needs major attention. I'm honestly not sure where we are the worst at S, DE, or LB. All 3 are huge holes.
-
I know that he can still coordinate a top tier defense but man. Just letting him get "his guys" doesn't work. Fuller and Woods have been two of the worst on the defense. Jewell is solid but a liability in the pass game.
