  1. Culture isn't the solution to the team being better next year. But it is the solution to building long term stability. And, yea , I think you nailed it. Holding each accountable. Fighting to the whistle. Calling out laziness at practice. Competing everywhere. All that is where culture impacts an organization.
  2. He definitely ripped the attitude of this past years team. Turnover going to be high over next 24 months and we need it. I hope he sets the example by trading Burns. Everybody knows that even the "star" will be gone if they don't toughen up.
  3. Honestly, it's worth watching. There are some fluff moments like in every presser. But you really get a feel for why he was the guy. He CHOSE this job to work with Bryce. Said the passing offense will be based on the things Bryce does well and not force Bryce into plays that he can't excel at. He considers last year a learning year and is basically getting the #1 pick with an extra year of experience. It may not workout with Bryce but having the HC be completely behind you will give him the best chance. Especially with the quick passing game.
  4. The turnovers are a glaring point for sure. But look at this actual defensive roster. Dude had nobody at MLB all year long after losing Shaq. Was playing 3rd and 4th strings at DB. Burns a complete quitter. With Horn back and a healthy Shaq, I expect them to take another step forward even though the PPG rank may drop.
  5. Acknowledging there is a problem is the first step to addressing it. AND he acknowledged it publicly to media members. That's in stark contrast to his previous behaviors.
  6. Another part from the presser I thought was worthy of it's own thread. Canales went into detail on how he wants the offense to be successful - Protect the ball at all costs (nothing new here) - Get the ball out in 2.7 seconds or less. Said this is the goal for Bryce and QBs in practice and games. They will time it and set it as the standard. Find guys that can get open quickly. Takes stress off your QB and your O-line so they don't pass block as long. It's the opposite of last years deep drops and long developing routes. And it should help our O-line.
  7. 1000%. How can you be a leader and captain of a team and then admit you mailed it in because you didn't get a new deal and were playing not to get hurt.
  8. Thought this was worth it's own thread. Person has a tweet where he asked if Tepper was answering questions: Asked if he was going to do interviews today, Panthers owner David Tepper said with a wry grin: “No, I’m in the background now.” https://x.com/josephperson/status/1753083578827542603?s=20 I think it's honestly big news. He hired a GM that he believes in (and didn't listen to outside noise). And then he let that GM bring in his guy. He brought in another front office exec from a successful team in Brandt Tillis. Now he says, he's in the background. It's their show. Actions speak louder than words but I'm optimistic.
  9. Asked if he was going to do interviews today, Panthers owner David Tepper said with a wry grin: “No, I’m in the background now.”
  10. He's not a player who pushes the lines or anything. But everything about him is tough and setting the tone for the defense. Opposite of Brian.
  11. Still think they could potentially trade Burns to get a 1st. Especially with Morgan talking about wanting football players that are tough, gritty, "have that dawg in them". Burns is the softest "star" player here. Need to build around guys like Brown and Luvu who fight every play.
  12. Don't expect Panthers to trade back into the 1st. Morgan said 33 is basically a first rounder and just wants to focus on taking good football players.
  13. No because the presser isn't about him. Thankfully he knew that. He said thanks to players and families and then brought his guys on stage.
  14. I love Canales saying he wants ball out in 2.7 seconds or less. Big target for him and Bryce.
  15. Canales basically confirmed that Evero will be back. "He is a huge part of what we are doing" " need continuity on defensive side"
  16. The two jobs I read he was interested in as DC was Green Bay and LA Rams. GB just filled their spot yesterday.
  17. He's gotten HC interviews in back to back seasons in spite of bad teams around him. Teams/front offices see his success. Being here isn't diminishing his candidacy. Do the bright lights of LA bring more eyes? Sure. But he's a known commodity. The reason he wasn't offered a HC position has nothing to do with being on Carolina and everything to do with the way the NFL coaching hires are trending (offensive). Only 1 new defensive coach hired and that was Mike Macdonald who had the best defense in the NFL. The other 2 were already with their teams. If he wants to leave, I'm ok with it but a team is going to trade. He is an asset just like a player is.
  18. I don't see an issue. Waiting to hire the new coach and then letting new coach make his decision on him before releasing these guys from their contracts.
  19. Feels a lot different than the Wilks situation. #1 he wasn't the interim HC. #2 There aren't players out there campaigning for Evero as HC like there was for Wilks.
  20. If he wants to have real good faith negotiations then sure. My problem with him is that he and his agent do not appear willing to do that. So to me, that makes him a crappy team member. He's not average. He's a good, not great player. He's demanding great player money and won't back down (at least from our knowledge). He said he didn't play hard because he didn't have his big deal. As a fan, that's being a villain.
  21. Yes but with 2 3rd round picks. Or you do it this year and have no picks.
  22. Agree. We have to do everything we can to sign a proven #1 WR (1. Higgins 2.Pittman 3.Evans) or at worst a guy with significant potential like Ridley. That's FA $$$ priority one. Then you sign Derek Brown and Luvu. I'd honestly trade Burns for a 1st if they can get it. Be done with him.
  23. I like that Canales didn't shy away from shuffling OL in Tampa to make it work for them. He moved Wirfs to LT ; both guards were new, and Jensen (C) didn't play either. And they were a real solid unit. 40 sacks given up.
  24. I think health is a big part for sure. Also, a more friendly scheme to our specific players. But we still HAVE to bring a potential starter at guard or center.
