I think the biggest issue for David Tepper.....is his best offensive draft pick to date.....is an average, RB by committee caliber RB. As in, he is backup RB in the NFL. If that's your best offensive draft pick in a half decade.....your team is going to fail.
-
I think the most competitive team we have fielded in the Tepper era....was actually the Matt Rhule/Teddy Panthers. Most would I think would say Steve Wilks...but reality is Wilks was limited to only playing 1970s era ball against bad teams. They were matchup specific in terms of being competitive. That 2020 couldn't close the deal but they were pretty competitive all season long and was the best offense in the Tepper era. And that featured a green OC who didn't even drill redzone and a checkdown QB.

the Matt Rhule shrug gif is the best thing any actual Panther HC(I don't include interims) has done for us since Ron was fired. And now I can't find one that is huddle compatible
-
eh, I'd argue he is now described as a CEO/dickhead type because his Ted Lasso bologna blewup in his face so hard at this level. He was pimped as Dabo lite. Rhule had all the cheesy slogans. He had all the cheesy motivational. Rhule out there threatening to pop his own hamstrings doing tackling drills with the team. That poo don't work at this level. Once that came to be....he was just the muttering idiot who didn't get the NFL.
-
Didn't we essentially try that model with Matt Rhule already?

Already seeing some teams bring those guys in this offseason

Twitter embed isn’t work for me so here is a cut and paste… The #Chiefs have considered not using Harrison Butker for all kickoffs and instead using a player like safety Justin Reid. Special teams coordinator Dave Toub said the new kickoff rule has kickers more involved in tackles, and they don't want that for Butker. The full answer is worth a listen. The new NFL kickoff rule is such a huge change....

Ask The Old Guy: Laying the foundations
CRA replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
I will always miss the old Gantt. Not saying I don't like the current Gantt. He does a fine job at what he is hired to do. But I wish he wasn't working for the team during this era. No one would be a better read IMO. -
Will the Panthers be better than most are expecting?

I mean, the huddle keeps beating this division will suck mantra....but we happen to be the clear cut worst team in the division. -

he went 5-7 from 50+ last year and was 2-2 the year prior...sometimes not going for the kick is classic old school football coaches doing what they do and playing field position. I think the knock on Eddie is clutch moments. Outside of that, there aren't really any concerns with him. I don't think he gives you those 60ish options.

wins and losses mean nothing IMO in terms of Bryce this year. What matters is how he specifically plays. He can make big strides and we lose. He can play bad and we win. -

Canales has always been around vertical and chunk plays downfield.... paired with a stubborn run. I just don't see how Young pairs up. I won't until it actually happens. -

which I can handle. I can handle more picks and even more sack/fumbles in year 2.....pending Bryce makes a big step in making big plays downfield. Still feels square peg/round hole-ish though. -

you are almost guaranteed some injuries on both sides. It's just the lotto of which ones go down and how bad. -
only guesses I feel safe making, is Frank wanted CJ. Tepper wanted Bryce. Now, who was on whose side in the org when they debated? Who knows. Well, we know Mrs. Tepper was buying what the CJ folks were saying per the same reporter that had the Frank/Tepper split. part of me feels, the CJ Stroud crowd.....all saw the door.

I think the D could be worse. Not drastically. But takes a step back. I also could Bryce turning the ball over more in Canales scheme/O. Given the asks under what we assume will be Canales offense will look like......don't play to what Bryce naturally does well. The counter to that, is maybe Canales goes heavy Wilks approach and we play 1970s football and beat some weak teams and surprise folks on the actual record. -
Well, then that’s on the Panther PR machine. All I got is Bryce with a horrible answer to a question. Taking his word. And if I recall, it was the Panthers media that put that Bryce interview/question out there to begin with. That was really our first back to Bryce piece. And maybe it was just that. A bad answer that didn’t paint a good picture.

Well just side tracking to fantasy football. Richardson had the 2nd most points per drop back only behind Josh Allen until he got injured. So I’ll probably draft him as my QB2 lol
-
Well, because Bryce didn’t just say I didn’t throw with my WRs. Bryce made the point of having nothing to do with football overall. Then went in about being a loner and being alone. So it’s more than just not working out with his teammates. It’s a lost offseason to build leadership and being the dude. CJ Stroud is checking multiple boxes with his actions. Based on what Bryce said….its a 180 from what you generally would like to see and hear. .
-
Well, there is PR to everything, but big picture that’s what he was supposed to be doing. And the Panther PR itself IMO is what largely is being attacked of late. It rubs folks the wrong way at this point given what a joke the org is presently. So I think with some there is bit of a distinction at times there. When so much of what they have presented has consistently been bologna. Was Bryce catching some of that? Maybe. But he was doing what was expected this time last year.

I mean, the Madden kid showed up to do a spot. Yes. There is also footage of everyone working out inside the facility that day then everyone going outside and doing a legit workout. All that went down before Sketch came by at the end of the day to mess around. Which is why his coaches talk about the workout sessions and not frame as the clip my kid cares about that got filmed at one point, and Stroud was everywhere this offseason. Too much of him in all honesty online. Interacting with his teammates. Talking football with anyone he can. Breaking down football. Breaking down film. That’s not being away from football. Bryce’s response on top of not wanting anything to do with the game…turned me off because of the isolation talk. It’s why I refer to him as an Eli Manning type in terms of the leadership he likely is going to bring. Which isn’t what I prefer from my QB 1. It’s why I say he doesn’t check the textbook boxes. But the Giants got 2 rings with it so there is that. But Eli was also heavy criticized for that because it isn’t the norm at that spot.
