Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8
CRA replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Heck, call up the boys in Buffalo and get Curtis Samuel back for the cheap to be the slot. Buffalo brought him in there but then Shakir blew up in the slot. Josh Allen got a legit bomb thrower for an arm.....yet you see Buffalo prioritizing that slot action. Not sure why there is this weird quiet movement to stay away from that like it's insulting to Bryce Young. -

You can keep talking about that cherry picked stat line. Bryce Young in his entire football career.....has never been a deep ball guy. Sure, everyone needs that in their game. He does too. That's not why we drafted him. We don't need to try to wish him into a downfield passer. We don't need to build an O that doesn't play to his strengths. You know what weren't the best at? Well below the league average in what we got out of the backfield. Well below the league average in YAC. That's easy yards. Those moves the chains. And Bryce getting the ball out quickly to playmakers is literally why we drafted him......and we immediately traded away those guys right before we drafted him and given him none. -

need a quick Y working the slot more than anything. You don't need first round picks on those guys. Not saying I want to go draft one tonight. But Bryce needs a youngster to build chemistry with. AT is the dude in need of replacement. Bryce IMO is always going to lean to that area of the field. . -

yeah, we don't really need a legit deep ball haymaker guy. But we need the other aspect of Ted's game. A dude he can take a nothing pass at the line of scrimmage or a simple hitch or crosser to the house. Curtis Samuel would be another example when we had him in the slot w/ Teddy. We still lack the diversity you want to see in a pass attack. XL, Tmac, Coker and Saunders are our 4 investments right now and they are way too similar. -

I keep banging the Jordan Burch drum so probably safe to rule him out at this point. -

how funny would it be if Deion's prized possessions ended up in Jacksonville and Carolina after all his talk of what he wouldn't allow to happen to them? -

Going in, I was holding on hope that would be my realistic dream outcome. They would go all D but snag Noel. He projects well into that slot/YAC role. I mean, I wanted Warren but knew that had 0% chance of happening. I thought the Noel thing had a legit shot since they brought him in for that top 30 (and assumed Tmac was largely due in a diligence in a trade down) but yeah, they have to go defensive front in the 2nd now I think. -

XL made a TON of sense.....because he fit what Canales did in Tampa and Seattle. And we drafted XL when most folks that Bryce Young era was likely about to end. Nothing nonsensical about acknowledging what Canales has always been about/around (and how his draft picks fit that)......and how Bryce Young at no point in time when we drafted him was billed for fitting such an offense. It was all PG quick distributor talk. Which meant YAC players around him and getting the ball out with his super brain. XL and Tmac struggle getting open quickly. They are more suited for a chunk play team that is playing off the run and sets up for WR to have time to get open downfield (which is the Canales tree). Which is what Canales is basically drafting. Square peg/round hole. It's not nonsense. It's the Tepper era. -

yeah, that's my point. His friends gave it to him. He didn't pick it. We aren't his friends. He will be a football player for the Carolina Panthers. NFL fans likely will appoint him a nickname at some point or maybe they won't. Nicknames are just weird things. Some dude was called freaking Cornbread in college. No one called him that here to my knowledge. -

my history tells me that half the fun of being a fan is pretending that if I was GM we would be 17-0 if they just listened to whatever I make up off of watching random college kids play a random game or so. -

the real #1 spot in a Bryce Young O isn't going to be a big body on the outside though. Which is why a discarded WR that the league pretty much said shouldn't be a starter anymore had a mini-rebirth. We all knew where Bryce natually would go w/ the ball when we drafted him and are building a roster.....suited for Jake Delhomme. -

You rarely get to pick your own nickname though. Others largely dictate that. Otherwise, I'd just prefer to be called Brad Pitt #2. -

It's got the sort of room to run in all kinds of directions. It was mentioned in the article so I assume folks in AZ tried to make it a thing at some point. -

During a pre-draft appearance on ESPN, receiver Tetairoa McMillan clarified that his preferred name isn't "Tet" but "T-Mac." https://sports.yahoo.com/article/cowboys-could-end-t-mac-234505180.htm that said, I'm going to call him T-Bone. -

Tmac is more of a finesse WR than a Evans or Higgins. Now for all my bashing on the pick. I will agree, if you get the ball in Tmac's hands.....he offers more after the catch than some probably think. While doesn't have great speed and separation...he has good moves w/ the ball in his hands. I just worry you are going to have to scheme Tmac up too much to get open. Don't think he naturally is going to be able to get open easy at this level. -

and AT was about to retire after this past season. Hubbard, XL, Tmac, Coker, Saunders. That's not in theory what you should have for a PG distributor you dump the farm in named Bryce Young. CMC, DJ Moore, Anderson, Curtis Samuel, etc. was the Bryce Young O build. -
imagine building this elaborate draft room in your home.....and being confused about why teams didn't rush to draft you. Not even getting into the actual football concern of holding the ball imploding plays and how that's going to compound in the NFL when open isn't really a thing most plays. Sheduer Sanders bringing 2025 Cam Newton energy to the table when teams want 2011 Cam Newton energy at the table.
-
I'd feel a lot better about the Dave/Canales vision......if the Panther hadn't dumped so much into Bryce Young right before Canales walked in the door. I think it's clear what Canales wants. I still think it's at odds with what the Panthers wanted to do when they drafted Bryce.

you trying to disrespect my guy Dan The Dawg Chisena? I actually had to google my guy, but did you know in his 3 spectacular catches....he managed to run a higher yards per reception than XL, Mingo, and every TE on the roster. -
Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8
CRA replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think they are the same type player, I just think they both ideally are suited to be the Z. if we were going to address O in this offense......it needed to be speed and YAC IMO. AT is our slot king. Which remains a limiting factor for this O. A problem we bill as as a strength. Also, an issue we don't have guys who can make plays out of the backfield/line of scrimmage. I don't think Tmac really does much to change the areas on the field we need to really improve on. When we drafted Bryce......no huddler would have ever said this is what you wanted to see us do and would work w/ that type QB. Which is basically my argument. -
I got nothing but love for Coker. We still lack anyone that presents that quick YAC player. I'll never get building a chunk play football team for Bryce Young (who needs a dink and dunk team). And yes, dink an dunks still go down field and chunk play still go short in games. I just don't see the vision here.
-
no shame in not being able to predict the acts of the Panthers....or Jaguars lol. If anyone could, I would question if you are a time traveler.
-
I'm not sure what happened there (CRA checks the modern day politician's playbook). Oh, my account must of been hacked. Hacked I tell you! None the less, my overall average of predicting what the Panthers will do.....remains unfazed. I'm wrong 90% of the time about what this front office will do in a draft. I nailed XL last year so I am due for a drought of about a decade lol.

Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8
CRA replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
my issue is simply, we spent back to back first round picks on essentially 2 guys who are best suited for the exact same role. So we naturally limiting the roster/build/improvement. XL was fine or Tmac would be fine for the job. It's the back to back investment for ideally the same job. Then you factor in how much that type role should be prioritized in a Bryce O vs other roles. it's the lack of diversity. The needs on offense were clear for me going in. Team needs some quick and YAC play on the O. That's not Tmac. Needs playmakers to get the ball out quick to behind the line of scrimmage and over the middle. Tmac will be developing for the role we are developing XL for. And while you can say, well, you can have two of those guy? Sure. But I want Baker Mayfield and to be running the Bucs O Canales did there. But that's not us. We got Bryce Young. and Tmac on the surface doesn't check a lot of the dawg boxes. He doesn't play as his size suggest. More finesse than physical. McShay literally uses are own verbage against us.....as in not a dawg. Tmac requires external motivation. I still don't see that the Panthers have a big picture vision on O. They got a pass for the mismatch last year because we all thought Bryce would be done. They get less of a pass this year. -
