What went wrong? The Sam Darnold Experiment (Video)
ForJimmy replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Carson seems similar to Strafford to me. Always pretty solid but on a struggling team. Strong arm, not very mobile but can excel with some talent around him. -

You could say the same about LSU with Flynn, Russell etc before Burrow. Different coaches/systems mean a lot more than the school. -
Damn that's horrible...

What went wrong? Matt Rhule plus Sam Darnold = bad coach plus bad QB. -
Tua did better with a worse OL. That gives you an idea of how bad Sam is.

Vegas odds on which head coach gets fired first this season
ForJimmy replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
No surprises here. Other coaches got fired after 2 bad seasons (of which were better than Rhule’s). I would hope he will have a short leash this year, but who knows with Tepper as the owner… -
I think that article is just using an average QB to show our roster is actually pretty decent top to bottom except for QB. If we add an average one like Tannehill we would be a solid team (in that writer's opinion). I don't think there is any smoke there.

Watson's people expecting a full season suspension
ForJimmy replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Sometimes. Sometimes the company I work for "settles" because it's the cheapest most efficient way to move on from the issue at hand. Do you want to spend more money/time in court to just pay out and move on. I wouldn't say the "settle" parts makes him guilty as much as the 24 different women with similar stories does. -
That's when we were extra stupid and thought we were a playoff team. Gilmore was to replace Horn after he got hurt.

Campen, Wilks, and McAdoo (like him or not he is better than Brady) definitely improve our staff. There is more talent on the OL than we have seen in a long time. Our secondary is full of youth with great physical traits in Chinn, Horn, DJax, CJ, and Woods, DJ Moore has proven to be a great WR who we have secured for a while, Corral gives us a young promising QB to watch in practice/TC throughout the year, special teams has a better coach with a better punter and some stability at kicker.

CB is more of a premium position than LB lately. Dean is probably going to take a year to get healthy. Henderson has all the physical tools an elite CB needs, he just needs to put it all together mentally. If Wilks can teach him then we will be happy to have only given up a 3rd for him. The DJax contract does make me think they aren't all in on Henderson though...

NFL Network analyst suggests Rhule needs Mayfield to save his job
ForJimmy replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
The legal issues are terrible, but player to player Watson is an upgrade over most QBs in the league including Baker (who I would consider mid-level). The Falcons lost Matt Ryan over a chance to trade for Watson. Desperate franchises (like us) went all in on Watson because when it's all said and done they know he will eventually play and probably play very well. Jimmy G's team gave up 3 first round picks for a rookie that has never taken an NFL snap and played for NDSU to replace him. It's a pretty big difference IMO. If Watson plays like he has when he does, that Browns team can be Super Bowl contenders. Can you say the same for Lance and the Niners? If Watson went to the Saints they would probably be in the mix as well. -
Wilks will have him playing well!

Jimmy G's 2021 playoff performance is some of the worst tape you will see from a QB on a loaded team. He played decent against the Rams, but outside of that.... it was bad. Jimmy G is also 3.5 years older than Baker and has had the McDaniels and Shanahan developing him vs Hugh Jackson, Kitchen, and Stefanski. That tells me Baker has room to grow and Jimmy G is playing at his peak. -
That’s not that dumb and looks very possible right now…

How much would you trade for Baker for 1 year rental?
ForJimmy replied to Cam's New Arm's topic in Carolina Panthers
Statistically speaking, Sam's rating drops when he has more time. Maybe it's because he is so use to having no time, he freaks out when he does and rushes his progressions. I think he does good (as do most QBs) when the first read is open. When it's not he struggles with progressions and wants to improvise with some bad habits. I watched him get pulled last year and he legitimately looked scared on the sidelines. When Baker is on the sidelines after a bad series/game he looks pissed off like he wants to go back out there and make a play. I think Sam is just mentally weak (from a football/competitive standpoint) and even with a good OL won't have much progress. Baker is almost the opposite where he can be overconfident and get himself into some trouble. When it comes to scared vs overconfident in a QB, I'll always take the latter.
