I am curious as to what injuries he is playing through right now. He looked solid last year and I know he has turf toe, a shoulder injury (non throwing), and fingers on his throwing hand (similar to Rodgers this year). All of those plus UK’s shitty line could be holding him back quite a bit. I don’t like him at the top of the first, but towards the middle and bottom I might be interested.

https://draftwire.usatoday.com/lists/2023-nfl-mock-draft-will-levis-michael-penix-anthony-richardson-bryce-young-cj-stroud/ This has Penix going in the mid first at 15 to the Colts. He is definitely getting some attention now.

“Drafting a decent one and breaking him” is the most important part of that article to me. We have a good young OL and we need to try to retain Bozeman or draft another center pretty early to replace him. This is also why it’s important to get the right HC and why I’m leaning towards an offensive minded one for some stability for our rookie QB. Several of these QBs could work out, but it’s up to our staff to give them every opportunity to develop properly. -
Keeps him away from Auburn so I like it.

Love Wilks as a person and leader of men. Unfortunately he isn’t HC material at the NFL level. His ceiling to me is a Ron Rivera type conversation, safe, discipline coach. He would need a great OC, but he would just get plucked away after a year or two. We need an offensive minded coach and there are plenty of quality DCs we can pair with him.

Wilson might be the worst of them right now, but he has a high ceiling.

He is playing hurt and probably needs to sit at this point. Turf tow, shoulder (nonthrowing), fingers (throwing), and who knows what else behind that line. He looked solid when he was healthy last year, but playing against UGA with his OL will bring nothing good and possibly more injuries. I still wouldn't write him off, but I also wouldn't draft him in the top of the first round or possibly first in general..

Mahomes is the top QB right now IMO. He also has 77% more attempts which is why we are using % and why total yards don’t hold as much weight. -

Thanks! Wow for Jacoby. It looks like Fields is also higher on the bad throw % as well. He is still definitely a working progress. -

Not saying you are wrong, but can you post the source for the drop %. It's not adding up in my head because Chicago is barely passing the ball right now. If they are middle of the league in total drops with fewer attempts that would make me believe the % would be higher. I have a feeling it might have some random QBs that haven't started or played many games this year on that list... Just trying to make sense of it mathematically. -

I'd agree he is still not a finished product in the passing game. His passing numbers have been trending up lately (TD/INT and rating), but they are still "hiding" his passing struggles to a degree my limiting attempts and calling more runs. His real test will be next season providing they surround him with talent due to all that cap space they have. -

That's the key. He isn't asked to throw the ball that much at all. I'm willing to bet he is towards bottom of the league in pass attempts and with that his team is still in the mid range for dropped passes. Percentage of passes dropped would probably be towards the top end which is frustrating, especially for a young QB trying to find some rhythm. -

When you are talking about rookies/2nd years QBs you usually look at how they are trending. He had a bad rookie year and struggled the first quarter of the season, but it looks like something is starting to click with him and he is making a bit of a jump. It's all about context... I don't understand why you are so against this. Fields is playing at a higher level lately. Has his solidified himself at THE guy? No, but he is looking like he COULD be something special IF he keeps progressing. -
If he is throwing TDs when pass plays are called and has a great rating over this 4-5 game stretch what else is he suppose to do? He isn't going to audible from a run play that his HC is calling. When his number is called he is delivering. His offense has 29 (against the top defense), 32, and 30 points over his past 3 losses. Call me crazy but that isn't a QB issue IMO...

Not a big Levis fan, but he is playing with turf toe and an injured shoulder. It's his not throwing shoulder, but that still affects throwing more than people think. Throw that in with terrible OL play and I can almost look past his second half performance of this season. He also injured a finger or two on his throwing hand for what it's worth...

Yeah you are missing a lot…

I'm sorry but that game was a mess. I don't know how much rainfall it was but there were penalties from coaches trying to dry the field with towels so they could attempt a FG. I remember Chicago players doing a "slip and slide" celebration. Neither QB could throw well, much less one in his first game as a starter. I wouldn't write off a first round QB over that....

Nice visual! Yeah since he is past the rehab part and his arm seems fine, I wonder if it can/will have any long term complications. Medical is not my specialty... -
I don't blame Carr either, but I think he is a 31 year old mid level guy that will be in a new system again with a new staff. I don't think that's the way to go for our franchise. If we can land him cheap, he could make a good bridge QB as someone already mentioned and give our rookie time to develop, but I don't see that happening. Our roster is set for a rookie QB to develop (good young OL, solid running game, decent weapons in Moore and possibly TMJ, young pieces on defense in Chinn, Horn, Brown, and Burns). Since our cap is shitty next year, a rookie contract would be great at the QB position. Then once he has a year under his belt, our cap should be wide open to fill in missing pieces for a playoff run over the next few year. That's just the path that I kind of see in my head right now and I think Fitts has said several times he believes in trying to draft and develop a franchise QB.
