In twenty years, what's your favorite win to date?
Carolina Cajun replied to bigskypanthersguy's topic in Carolina Panthers
Hard to choose 1. I loved getting to actually be in stadium for 2 wins last year (Including the Zona playoff game) after living in Louisiana my whole life, but the one that always just sticks out (aside from the obvious ones, Xclown, Cowboys, ect) is week 1 2008 when we scored with no time left to beat the Chargers. For those who don't remember, Jake was coming off the infamous Tommy Jone surgery (his first game back), and Smitty was suspended due to breaking a defensive backs face. So with the question marks we had going into the game, a win wasn't some sort of sure thing, but this jump started one of the best seasons in franchise history (unfortunately punctuated by one of the biggest dissapointments in franchise history.) http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-cant-miss-plays/09000d5d80a9b15b/WK-1-Can-t-Miss-Play-Delhomme-s-game-winner -
Jameis Winston: "An Embarrassment"
Carolina Cajun replied to Anybodyhome's topic in Carolina Panthers
An independent investigation has stated that while a rape may not have occured, something shady happened. Just like Hardy may not have beat Nichole Holder, something not really legal did happen that night. Ragardless, I don't remember the times in college that I was accused of raping somebody then jumping on a table and yelling "Fug her right in the Pussy. If you want him as the face of the franchise, be prepared for the franchise to get run into the ground because he's flat out not mature enough to hold the most demanding position in sports. -
Jameis Winston: "An Embarrassment"
Carolina Cajun replied to Anybodyhome's topic in Carolina Panthers
I must have missed the day I had in college where I stole from a grocery store or raped a woman...but I guess my college life was boring. -
So...let me get this straight. We're gonna do a comparative analysis and tell me if the 2 situations seem different Jameis was accused of raping a person and while found innocent, is still in a civil court case against the accuser and people who have investigated the case have found that while a rape may not have happened, something pretty shady did in fact happen. While most people would use this moment to get out of the public eye after being accused of THE WORST CRIME SHORT OF MURDER A MAN CAN DO, he went on to get blasted for stealing from a publix and constantly in the news for things not associated with quarterbacking the Seminoles Brandon Wegher got into a fight with his brother, and while clearly over the edge for domestic violence, me and my brothers have caused more than one set of stitches by fighting and no one has been charged in domestic abuse. Jameis is the #1 overall draft pick, playing the most visible position in all of sports, and the day he was drafted became the undisputed face of an NFL franchise. Brandon Wegher is an UDFA who will have to fight to make the practice squad, let alone the final 53 (even though I think he's a great back). On top of this, if you asked 100 random panther fans out at a bar (not huddlers, just panther fans) maybe 1 would even have a clue who this guy was, let alone that he was even signed to the team. As for Jameis, he is a supremely talented player, and AT ANY OTHER POSITION I would easily take a flyer on him, but the problem is, he is the one driving the bus. Imagine for a second you have Dale Earnhardt Jr driving your bus, but only when he's hopped up on painkillers. At his best, it's an amazing smooth ride that gets to it's destination fast. At it's worst you get in a wreck and burn everyone on the bus alive.

REPORT: SS Swearinger claimed by Bucs on waivers
Carolina Cajun replied to @bobbyagnese's topic in Carolina Panthers
If he has his head on straight, he's definitely the kind of guy that can help us from a talent standpoint, even better considering his age. I like Kurt Coleman a lot, but just like the competition at Tackle and receiver, I want as many bodies as possible there to choose the best fit from. -
Collins makes a huge mistake here. Unless they are gonna start using 6 lineman at one time, this is a complete waste because he'll never see the field. Oh well.

NFL Free Agent Collins Cleared as Suspect
Carolina Cajun replied to Moorgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Only situation I can see would be to prevent players from working demanding they sign with a certain team. If a guy is a high draft pick m, but only wants,to play for the patriots, he could refuse to sign with anyone and then get his first round money after the draft. I think the nfl is being too hard on this kid in this case, he should be allowed in the supplemental draft. -
Hey roger goodell? Where were Ya on this one buddy? You sure we're quick to put these small market team players in their place with hardy and Peterson (right or wrong), but let Raype Macdonald play every Sunday. Where was your crack squad of NFL investigators with this situation, or because it could hurt a premiere brand in the NFL you turned the other way...

This was why I was wondering what the rules would be about "extending" him imediately. Lets say they tell him, we'll sign you, and immediately "extend you" for 1 year (so instead of a 3 year deal, it's now a 4 year deal), with a big signing bonus and guaranteed money tied to the 4th year, in essense giving him a bigger payday. If that is a possibility, then things get even more interesting because if I can think of this as a random joe schmo, I'm sure most GM's have thought about this too. With that said though, I admittingly don't know all the rules with the CBA so I don't know whether or not that would even be allowed.
-
We just signed Brandon Wegher to the same contract that he would get and he actually has a history of actual police run ins and domestic abuse. If we don't sign him, it won't be because of JR, it will be because he chose another team over us. Let's let this situation play out.
-
The risk is that if he is somehow involved he goes from being "La'El Collins" to "Carolina Panthers Lineman, La'El Collins". Not saying it's right, but whatever team would sign him would forever be associated with him.
-
Not possible, big cat would never let us draft someone with that many character concerns.

The Reason we made the trade for Devin Funchess
Carolina Cajun replied to Biggdaddi1022's topic in Carolina Panthers
True, but I'm interested to see what cam does without having our tackles giving free runs at him. If, IF our tackles give him protection this year, I believe we could see his best performance. -
I'm not so so sure about cotchery, I think He very well may lose his spot if bersin or hill even come close to him in the preseason. His starting role is gone and no reason to keep a guy on the roster who is blocking our youth and will be gone next year anyway.

La'El Collins may be in play after all

Exactly what I thought, but like you, I'm not sure about the rules -

Considering the bust rate in the NFL lately for first Round OT's, guaranteed contract is important. -

Here is my question. Let's say he's signed as a UDFA, is it possible to sign him then immediately "extend" him for 2 years for his contact length to be 5 years to give him a some semblance of a real first round contract? -
I completely agree. The vitriol towards him started because he "blocked" the greatest practice squader in NFL history in Stephan Hill, then the punt returns came and he failed at that, but who didn't see it coming from a possession receiver asked to return freaking punts. I don't think he will make the team, but I sure as heck am not pulling against him. Hope if he doesn't make it here, he catches on somewhere.

CBS' Prisco hates the pick & SB Nation's Kadar, lukewarm
Carolina Cajun replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
I said before, I love the pick, but hate the spot. I think we could have bent someone like the Saints, Jags, or Titans over so they could get the combine MVP in Breshad Perriman. If we had moved back into the top of the second round, we still get Shaq but we get another pick that we can bundle to move up to assure ourselves of Getting Jake Fisher who would be an amazing fit for us here. We still may move up, and if we end up with Shaq and Fisher in the first 2 rounds, I'll be very happy, but I'd be more sure if we had moved back a bit. That said, remember, last year it was said that KB was a 2nd round talent and we "reached" for him. It wasn't until we started seeing his physical tools and his real 40 time that we really took notice and then how he performed took all the doubt about where he "should" have been drafted out of the question. Also, understand, the drop from KB to Marquise lee was significant in the draft, the drop off from Devin Smith to Tyler Lockett IMO was not so huge, so thats why not reaching for a receiver was not necessarily smart move to me. BPA value just did not match any true position of need yesterday, on to a new day. -
I do hate the Devon smith pick, but if he is our pick, by Friday morning I'll be all on board, he would be one of us then.
-
I'm not really happy with a smith pick because I don't like to get a guy in the first round who I think is mostly a gimmick speedster and special teams guy. Shane Ray or one of the available OT's woulda been preferred.
