Albert Breer on Panthers #1 pick (no trade back)
mrcompletely11 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Found it https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/columnist/bell/2023/04/12/carolina-panthers-nfl-draft-pick-quarterback-bryce-young-cj-stroud/11643288002/ Reich, the Panthers new coach, and general manager Scott Fitterer will collaborate to make the call. "At the end of the day, the decision comes down to Scott and myself," Reich said. What if they don’t agree? You’d think that Panthers owner David Tepper would be the tiebreaker. Yet even without a so-called tie, it’s difficult to imagine the team going all-in on a rookie quarterback without Tepper’s blessing. "Mr. Tepper is heavily involved in the process," Reich said. "He’s been on record saying, 'This is Scott and Frank making this decision.' He’s intimately involved. This quarterback that we pick will be the face of our franchise. And so, obviously he has to be comfortable with that." So I am not really sure where Will K is getting his info from. -

On personnel matters I agree but I am pretty sure in an article/interview leading up to all of this fitt and/or Reich said it was going to be a mutual decision in regards to the pick. I will try and find the exact quote but given the sheer volume of articles the past month it may take me some time -

Well if the report is true that its Fitt and reich making the decision jointly and if Fitt loves Young and reich loves AR/Stroud what do you think happens? -

I seriously doubt that, owners and their wives normally dont go to pro days. Schfter reported almost a month ago the Teppers "loved" young. -

He in one breath said under no certain terms would tepper get involved in the decision then says yeah if its split he would be the final vote -

So here is the timeline of the past 72ish hours: Texans are not sold on Stroud and may go Anderson National guys and local beat reporters start saying its young Panther guys still say a trade down is available Young meets with Texans Person reports we like AR and would be a pick if we trade down thats choppy I admit but if you add that up it kindof does look like we are trying to bait houston to trade

That seems to be his MO at this point, just throw tons of money at whatever the problem is. -

There is literally no defensive coach in America that is teaching a player not to hit the qb. -

Hence the problem. From the "reports" of the past 48hours its David and Nicole making the call -
sure it does buddy, sure it does

The argument has never been that he isnt a good qb, the argument is will his body hold up across 17+ games for multiple years. I mean the least sacked qb last year was in the mid 20s and that doesnt factor pressures or qb hits. The kid is going to take punishment. https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/which-qb-has-been-sacked-the-most-in-2022

I dont think teams in the nfl play this type of next level chess and I give something like that less then 1% chance of happening but if, if we have stroud ranked higher and if we are able to trick the the texans into flipping for some draft capital then Fitt and crew deserve some unbelievable praise. That would be incredible to mindfug them like that. Having said that, thats just not how things work in the nfl. I think its going to be pretty telling if they interview young and then are like "nah we're good".
