    What matters now

McAdoo is gone after this year. Wills is delt a bad hand, we aren't winning the super bowl right now. Losing is great now. Let's focus on the important things.
  2. Y'all are missing a pretty obvious possibility. Rhule and co are hoping they can trade Darnold. Which would make PJ #2 and he'd need the reps. Unless Darnold lights it up a lot more than he's ever shown, there's no reason to have him ever take a panthers snap. PJ though is a passable cheap backup, and Corral has probably more than a year to learn and develop. He won't win us any games this year so it's not urgent to get him a ton of reps. At this point I trust PJ more than Darnold. But having watched Baker through his career, there's also no reason to think he's not the long term answer. He has all the tools to be an above average starter long term until we find a true superstar. He even could develop into one. Baker can win games.
  3. The difference is that Sam and Teddy were never very good, just the potential to be good. A healthy Baker Mayfield was a top 15 NFL QB and singlehandedly brought the Browns from absolute garbage to almost beating the chiefs in the playoffs. Mayfield is good, potentially very good. His hurt year doesn't count. And we got him for nothing. What you're not calculating is how damn incompetent the Browns are. They shipped him away not because he was the week link or they thought he was bad. They shipped him off because they're the browns and they didn't like that they were no longer having 1 win seasons. Before Mayfield go back and see when was the last time the Browns had a solid QB, or a winning season.
  4. We have the most cap space. Nobody else has remotely enough to take that hit this late in free agency.
  5. They won't release him, we're paying him too much. I'd guess they hold him for an injury to trade him as a backup for some small assets. You're not wrong that corral should be the backup, maybe Darnold is inactive on game days, or Corral gets reps in practice. 95% PJ is gone.
  6. We aren't going anywhere BECAUSE we haven't traded for a QB. With Mayfield we're a pretty solid team. Some depth issues but not a lot of holes in this roster outside of QB.
  7. Ideally a 3rd but as high as a 2nd if I was open to resigning him. A lot of people in here are misinformed over just how good Mayfield is. That includes the media. He played hurt all last year and still handily outplayed every QB we had. When he wasn't hurt he brought a garbage franchise into relevancy after 3 decades of suck. Dude is a winner and always has been. Offer the 3rd, trade the 2nd if you have to. Corral won't be ready to start until next year at the very least, he doesn't need time on the field unprepared, he needs to sit and watch a good QB, that's not Darnold. If Baker is lights out than we have either a great trade commodity in either him or Corral, or a very affordable QB room for a long time. Do it, and do it now
  8. Rhule hasn't shown he's a good coach yet, but he also hasn't shown he's a bad one. The media is hating on him, but the reality is this team was BAD and a fix wasn't 1-2 years away. The defense last year was one of the best. The offense let everyone down, specifically QB and Oline. Rhule made a good gamble at QB both times, neither worked out, but they were high ceiling low cost gambles. Same with the OC. The only actual mistakes was Irving's contract and darnolds 5th yr option. And I can chalk those up to well meaning optimism and live and learn. He deserved one more year. Not a day longer but the Oline is fixed, so now we can see if he can coach. If he can't than fire him, but there has actually been significant progress and the hate he gets is unreasonable.
  9. Baker has proved he can be a franchise QB. Teams spend decades trying to find one with the crapshoot that is the draft. Here's one that's available for cheap without the history of suck like Darnold had. We should be jumping on the chance.
  10. Im seeing a lot of "what have you done for me lately" on this thread. Baker is a little arrogant, but we're forgetting that he can freakin play. He's the best QB currently available from any source by a considerable margin and he's easily worth a 2nd, and we can probably get him for a 3rd. Last season he was hurt but did everybody forget what the browns were before him? He literally fixed 20 years of suck. Is he a top 3 QB? No, but he should be consistently top half and is good enough to get a decent team to the superbowl. And hes young, could play for a long time The best remaining things we can do is trade a 3rd for him, sign Clowney, and draft a LT. That would make us a very dangerous team.
