    Sam Mills

    Steve Smith

    Bryce Young

All smaller athletes, that have a passion for the game.

All told they are/were too small for the NFL.

    These are all facts.

The only thing that separates these men, is 1 of them is in the midst of proving he belongs.

Bryce Young is not even in same universe with those named Mills and Smitty.  Mills and Smitty showed promise from the start and had hearts of lions. Pillows is soft spoken and quiet.  Bryce yells with his hands over his mouth because he doesn’t want to be too loud.

Some of it is also for whatever reason the Rags are a god awful matchup for us, Florida also has a forecheck that's relentless like our own, I think the man d kills us vs the rags.....

Need the devils to be the rags first round matchup next season loll.

Their forecheck is relentless because they are so physical and heavy.  It’s just a perfect mashup for how they play. Florida before Paul Marice played just like us. Speed but with finesse.  Paul made them but into playing heavy. They went and got players that added to that style he wants and it works.  Plus they have the best goalie in the league.  That helps more than anything. The canes have got let Koochie be their guy he will never become the star that most think he will if rod keeps sticking with vets that flame out.

    1. Koochie or a Soros type player

    2. Switch to zone defense

    3. Get heavier.

like I said, I love Rod. Best pro coach ever in the Carolinas sports buy he is holding us back with his philosophy and style.  He is the reason.  He can change all of that with decisions.

Ehh NYR had more scoring opportunities and Florida is healthy with an elite net minder. Only fault I have on Rod is his goalie decision. At some point, the players deserve some balme.

Of course. That’s what I said. Bad goalie play and the style of defense. Florida played amazing.  Rods decision to stick with a struggling Freddie cost us. Plus, Florida may be more talented than us and they play a very heavy game. Something we don’t do well minus Svech.  Glad the rangers lost.

There’s zero chance Freddie is not here next year.

You can’t find a goalie less than $4M on the market and Fred’s buyout would still carry a cap hit of over $1M.

I get fans want to just up and get rid of players but that’s not how the NHL works.

I thought Freddie was and free agent?

Just for the sake of discussion…

Would anyone be interested in Necas+++ for Brady Tkachuk?

Maybe Martin Necas, Jack Drury, Jayden Perron, and a first round pick for Tkachuk?

    Jake Guentzel ($8.2M) - Sebastian Aho ($9.75M) - Seth Jarvis ($4.5M Bridge)

    Brady Tkachuk ($8.2M) - Felix Unger-Sorum ($831K) - Andrei Svechnikov ($7.75M)

    Bradly Nadeau ($918K) - Evgeny Kuznetsov ($3.9M) - Stefan Noesen ($2.5M)

    Jordan Martinook ($2M) - Jordan Staal ($2.9M) - Jesper Fast ($2.4M)

    Jaccob Slavin ($5.3M) - Brent Burns ($5.28M)

    Dmitry Orlov ($7.75M) - Jalen Chatfield ($3M)

Brady Skjei ($6.5M) -Scott Morrow ($916K)

    Frederik Andersen ($3.4M)

    Pyotr Kochetkov ($2M)

    Buyout - Kotkaniemi ($835K)

Obviously a lot of guys would have to take discounts but that could be a fun team.

No to Freddie unless he is ok being the backup and mentor to Koochie

Rumors are the priority targets for the team are

Jarvis, Guentzel and Chatfield. Then use the remaining 8-9m to fill out the last 7 spots. If they can buy out KK, they will try to get Skjei back.

Where are you hearing those rumors?  Btw I would love if we got to keep Jarvis Guentzel and chatfield. That’s a great off-season.  KK is toast. Bad contract.  Skjei would be great too.

Give him a nice little fair well painting today.

Might want to include Skjei and Pesce in there just in case.

fug that is sad. Damn we really are going to look different next year.  Maybe Donny Wadds call pull some magic in the offseason. Who knows.

Damn… Jarvis was beat to poo this year… torn labrum, torn rotator cuff, broken finger… still kept playing.

Fast is also in a neck brace 24/7.

Hockey players are the toughest athletes out there.

Jarvis is going to be a cane for life. Love that kid.  Tough as nails. That could be another reason the scoring dropped off there.

  9. Guys necas is going to be tough to see let go. Two years ago, he was in the running to be an all-star next to an Aho. I remember him getting votes as one of the fan votes. I signed a puck for my dads birthday which always stands with me.   I really do think Necas is going to go to a team like the leafs that’s prioritizes scoring he’ll get to 80 to 100 points.  He will set the NHL on fire. Great player, wrong system.

    Just messin' with ya.

Anyway, here's hoping next season is better and you don't take the game too seriously.

I love some good ball busting!  Doesn’t bother me ha!

no promises on that one. I hate losing more than anything. Even when I have no control. Panthers lose I just laugh and move on. Canes lose again in playoffs, it hurts.   But, I’m over it now. 24 hour rule.

Here's a thought.... can we pick out some of your more memorable forum melt-down posts and have you paint them on the ice?

We could start here, from the "Let Rod Walk" thread:

"It will save me money on my season tix.  fuging you and fug this team.:

I should!  Maybe I’ll have my daughter write those for you.

…or I can take a few of your as well. “Done” “I’m out”

What does RBA do to change his "philosophy?" You want him to play man during the regular season, dominate just as they have for the last 6 years and then change to zone during the playoffs? If the Canes tried that, they'd get swept in the first round. Can't take a team built to play man and change it to zone with the wave of a hand.

Goal-tending? Yes, Freddie was bad this year. Contrary to popular belief, his playoff numbers are very good: career 2.48 GA with a .916 save %. Last year he was 1.83/.927 and the prior year 1.84/.936. What more could you ask?

Lack of scoring? Yes, it was what hurt the Canes last season. It was addressed this season and appeared not to be the issue.

So, what exactly do want RBA to change? Freddie was bad when he's normally been very good. Scoring was there this year, but not last. How does RBA fix that? How does RBA figure out which issue is going to rear its head and cost the Canes a Cup? Injuries, players performance, poor goal-tending.

Million dollar questions. I have no clue.  The athletic did write a good article on it. They did mention changing to zone in the regular season to start the year. Your players are still going to play  well, and may save them some wear and tear as well.

  13. It’s not that I don’t like Rod. He is actually my favorite coach of all time next to Jerry Moore from App State that run of 3 straight nattys with the Michigan win was 2nd to none.  My issue with rod is he beats up on regular season teams then once he gets to the playoffs, our scoring drops or our goalie play sucks. Every year. Last year, goalie play was good but we couldn’t score. This year, scoring was there but our goalie play was bad. We scored three or more goals in all but 1 game Vs rangers. That should be enough to get you wins in playoff games.   It’s one of the other ever single playoffs.  Also, his man vs zone is a real thing. Burns had a terrible playoffs. It wasn’t good. Him chasing his guy vs playing zone may have benefited him. You can still check, hit your man, and get back to your area.

Like I said, I love rod but his playoff resume is like one poster said, it’s .514. Its average. Average for a cup contender isn’t good.  He needs to change his tune of some philosophy and loyalty to aging vets and goalies.

What’s going to suck about Necas is that he’s going to go somewhere and put up 80+ points. Good player, wrong system.

Necas is going to be stud with a team like leafs that lets their stars shine. I’m going to miss that guy.

Nope, Rod’s system that works wonders in the regular season failed again in the playoffs. 38-36 in the playoffs and no more than 8 wins in any post season run.

    Win % is .514
    pp is 14.9%
    pk is 76%

4 teams with more wins, tied with the Bruins for 5th.
10 teams with a better win % in the playoffs over that time period.

Facts. We looked gased in that third. His system just doesn’t work in the playoffs.

I know but both make too much for what they bring at this point in their careers.

I have more thoughts on the team as currently constructed.

but hey if everyone wants to run back the same coach and mostly the same players for a great regular season followed by more postseason failures, then by all means run it back.

I don’t mind the players except maybe Freddie. My issue is the the philosophies from rod. Man Vs zone. The guys just wore down. Man just fails in the playoffs. Rod needs to change his tune on youth vs loyalty to vets.
