Only way we gift the Bears a top 5 pick is if Bryce gets hurt or this staff really screws up. We weren’t even a top 5 pick this year, I think people forget at times that we traded up to #1 and that we weren’t the worst team in the league. We had the 9th pick, upgraded the roster at every position other than WR #1 (but improved the room) and people think we’re going to be worse this year. Make it make sense
-
I think much of this is an odd overreaction that many around here have had and I struggle to understand why, because all of the following are true…… Bryce, even as a rookie should be better than what we had at QB last year. We brought back the entire OL Sanders is an upgrade over Foreman (no, not over CMC but we were terrible when we had CMC, didn’t go on the run we did till after he was gone) Yes losing Moore hurts, but our overall WR room is better than it was last year. Defense really didn’t lose anyone of significance while we added a few good pieces. Coaching staff as a whole is significantly improved. When you take a 7 win team and then do everything noted above, I don’t get the doom and gloom some people have with saying it will take time. I think we’ll be decent pretty quickly, there really isn’t any reason for them not to be when you look at it like the above. But I also don’t think we’re legitimate contenders, I think we’re a 7-9 win team who will be in almost every game in the 4th quarter and challenge for the division or a WC spot.
-
Just because you’re unable to view the team objectively and think we are legitimate contenders this year doesn’t mean expectations are low moving forward when people speak in realities. Been trying to tell you this for months but you just keep sticking your head back in the sand trying to ignore facts.

Wait a second… you’re telling me our waiver claimed UDFA couldn’t pick off the top pick of the draft?!?!?! What a scrub
-
Maybe, maybe not. Might have done it hoping with all the other QB cuts that happened, he'd pass waivers and they could get him onto the practice squad. I still contend that we're one of the best places for him this year, to learn from this great staff we've put together, as he's not getting a shot at a backup role this year anywhere, he'd be a 3rd QB at best anywhere else right now.

Seriously? We structured his contract to have over 12 million in dead cap hits combined in the 2 years after his contract was over? For a guard? What the hell?!?!?! -

Ouch, 16 million dead cap hit to lose him this year, 11 next year, and still even almost 8 and 4 in the two years following. Easily here this year and next, and honestly at an almost 8 million dead cap hit (when he'd only be just under 4 million towards the cap to stay in 2025) even if he's a backup then he'd be better to be kept around than lose an extra 4 million on the cap -

Not sure anyone is giving up anything good enough mid-season for a guard that would make it worth our while to lose depth based on how a rookie was playing the first month of the season. -

The more I think about it, I think these two are actually linked together. So many teams play 3 and 4 WR sets, especially teams with a TE who is more of a receiver, that we'll need to be playing 5 DB's a lot. If they seem pretty set on calling Chinn a NCB and not a LB (and thus they won't put him in one of the OLB spots when on the field) with how this roster is built right now, then I think Williams is most likely the player who will come off the field with Burns, Houston, YGM, Haynes acting more as 4-3 DE's. -
really had nothing to do with the player, just a joke about KC stealing someone we tried to stash on the PS

Butker part 2?

And did that while having to navigate the sudden retirement of Luck and working with scraps from the QB market. he did that, look what Rhule did in the same time frame. There is no comparing Reich’s past to Wilks past, night and day. Look, I’m not knocking what Wilks did for us, I just don’t see him as a good HC in today’s NFL.
-
And he was fired after 1 season because he sucked then too. Not all coaches are meant to be a Head Coach, nothing wrong with being a great coordinator.
-
I don’t think he had an interview for any other HC other than ours, and when you need to interview 2 minority candidates now, for him to have garnered no other interest, it means he’s just not meant to be an HC
-
wait, what?!?! I hadn't seen who we cut yet today, but figured we had to cut at least one of the 5 TEs, to find out we cut Corral over all 5 of them doesn't make me happy. I'm all for Corral being our scout team QB this year, don't think we'll get anyone better for that role than he would be, so I'd much rather drop our 5th TE than him in that situation, ugh
-
I for one hope we are able to bring him back as I actually think he'd be a great scout team QB for us, particularly with his mobility, something that can be hard to duplicate in prep for games each week. Sure as hell won't be Dalton doing that, and yes, we'll absolutely add some QB onto the PS, I'd like it to be Corral with his familiarity with the team/staff.
-
Never said there weren't some better staffs out there for developing a QB But the Rams have Stafford and they like Bennett, while the 49ers just traded away a QB with much more potential than Corral, so neither would have any interest in him. And it's more than just McCown, it's Reich, Brown, and Caldwell as well. There is no question that we have one of the top staffs for coaching up QB's in the league right now, it's absolutely a place Corral would want to be at the moment if he can't be a starter somewhere.
-
You're right, him running the scout team as opposed to just being the #3 will get him significantly more snaps in practice. Sure, he'll be running the other team's playbook and not our own, but snaps are snaps for a kid who needs experience to get better. Carrying Corral means we likely won't keep a 4th QB on the practice squad, so he'll be leading the scout team in practice all season long while going up against what should be a pretty solid defense.
-
Most likely, but I just have a feeling that by mid-season, Corral might have shown enough in practice to be given the #2 role on game days over Dalton. Which if that happens, he's then a Bryce injury away from being our starter. Dalton has looked bad in everything I've seen from him so far, but I don't really care, because he's here to mentor Bryce and even if his on-field game has passed him, he can always do that.
-
You do realize that making Corral the #2 here doesn't mean he'd then be the guy aiding Young on the sideline and film room, it would still be Dalton. It's not like Dalton would say, "that's the #2's job, I'm just going to chill and collect my paycheck while being the emergency #3" And no, I don't think Corral wants to be here long term, but I think for this season, we might be the best place for him. We put together an all star staff, particularly with QB whisperers, to help expedite Bryce's development. While Corral won't get the reps that Bryce will get, he'll still get every bit of coaching off the field that Bryce will get. And at this point in the season, there really aren't any unstable QB rooms at the moment to where he might have a quicker path to playing outside of injury. The closest teams to that would be the Cardinals, Commanders, Falcons, Bucs, and maybe Titans. The Titans aren't doing it seeing as they already have Levis and Willis. The Commanders and Falcons already have 2nd year guys they want to give a legit shot to this year and see if they can be anything, they're not trading for Corral with the mind to possibly start him over Howell or Ridder this year. The Cardinals are actively trying to be terrible to get the #1 pick and just traded for another QB to start this year, they aren't giving up another pick for Corral. That leaves the Bucs as really the only possible target to fit what you're talking about and I think if Baker sucks for them, they'd rather keep all their picks while being terrible with Trask and go for the #1 pick themselves. Any other team in the league would put Corral in the same place as he is here, never going to play this year outside of due to injury, which again, if you're hoping for injury, being behind the smallest QB in the league is where you'd want to be anyways.
-
uh..... did you even see the post I was quoting and replying to there? He was saying that the league know's Corral doesn't want to be here and thus someone should try to trade for him. My point there was just that I didn't agree with that statement about him not wanting to be here for a number of reasons. And in what world is Josh McCown not a legit QB coach? That hire has been widely applauded by pundits, that he was a highly sought after coach and we were the lucky ones to grab him. I think a full season under McCown's tutelage will do wonders for Corral. People forget that the kid missed his entire rookie season and is only a couple months of offseason work into his second season, he will improve this year.
-
I don't think that's at all remotely true. I think Corral absolutely wants to stay in Carolina, and frankly, he should. First, he's not going to be given a starting job anywhere this year, at best he could hope to be the #2 for someone (and as I just said, I think before the end of this season, he'll be our #2 on game days anyways). Second, since he isn't going to start anywhere, his main focus for this season should be on improving his game, and there probably isn't a clear cut better staff in the league right now for him to do that. To work with the staff we put together for Bryce's development, might be the best situation in the league for him as well. Third, no matter what you thought about Bryce pre-draft, there is no denying that his size is a legitimate concern for durability in this league. If I know I'm currently a backup QB in this league, being on a team with a starting QB of Bryce's size would be something I'd want. Him being the current #3 as opposed to #2 is about the only reason he might want out of Carolina at this moment, but beyond that, I think he has ever reason to want to stay here for this season.
-
I'm also not convinced Dalton has anything left in the tank after what we've seen from him in camp videos and in the preseason game he played. He's here as a mentor to Bryce, if he ever needs to step on the field, we're screwed. Wouldn't shock me if he's only here this one season in the end, and if that's the case, Corral on his rookie contract might make more sense as our backup next year than paying a few million for a more legitimate backup. I also think there is a distinct possibility that by the end of this season, Corral ends up as the #2 on game days with Dalton designated as the 3rd string emergency QB. I think Dalton is going to be worth every penny we're paying him just to be the mentor for Bryce off the field, but from what I've seen from him in camp, he looks completely washed up as an actual QB on the field.
-
I actually didn't like trading away the picks we did to draft him last year. But since we did and he's now on our team, I think he's more valuable to us as the scout team QB to help prepare out defense each week than a future 7th round pick would be. He's got to be better than the scout team QB on any other team right now, plus he has mobility that can help our defense prepare for any mobile QB's we'll be facing this year.
-
In no world is a 7th rounder worth giving up on Corral at this point. He's not really tradable for me right now, if Lance is getting a 4th round pick in return, there isn't anything someone is going to be willing to give us for Corral right now that will make it worth giving up on him already. He's far more valuable to us to be our scout team QB than a 7th round pick is to us. I might take a 4th for him (which nobody is giving for him anyways), but anything 5th or later and I just think it's worth hanging onto him for now.
