Trade Burns for Jaylon Johnson and some picks
Varking replied to Varking's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not just that but we also have to pay Brown at some point, right? Brown and Burns have been together for a few years now. Our run defense has been atrocious the whole time and they make up half the defensive line. I think Brown is solid against the run so I can't fault him. Which means we need to look at the other 3 and I think its pretty clear that Burns, who I like, is a pass rusher only and when he gets any positive play against the run its a bonus because most of the time he is a liability in the run. -

You are sold on Bryce or no? Burns is a one dimensional player. He is great at creating pressure and he gets abused in the run game at times. I would love to keep him but is that worth 30 million a year? And in my scenario I listed in the opening thread, we were receiving back a player who is absolutely NOT a JAG. -

I mean to be fair, we could get rid of most of the team. We have like 6 guys that are valuable and the rest are pretty "meh". -

Yeah the INT thing is deceiving because he shuts down half a field basically erasing a target. He allows a 37.3 passer rating when targeted. -

Sounds like they aren't asking for crazy value in return. -

I would rather not give any assets to any team but usually when you want something you have to give something up. At least thats how it works in Full Metal Alchemist. -
PathersWire: Best and worst PFF grades week 8
Varking replied to SZ James (banned)'s topic in Carolina Panthers
Correct, they only grade them on the plays they are in for. So if he is in for four plays and does his job run blocking without getting beat, and runs good routes and gets open he is going to have a good grade. -

Well, two of those I believe will be back if we want them in Luvu and Henderson. Henderson is getting better here each week and I think he appreciates the low-key vibe of being a Carolina Panther. He has never enjoyed attention. If we make him a remotely fair offer he comes back. Evero when in Denver didn't have any major sack guys and kept point totals low despite how bad Denvers offense was last year. Their sack leader was at 6.5. I think we can find a guy who can get that for us much easier than we can find a shut down corner like Johnson who has done his damage with no pass rush in Chicago for two years. -

I know you're just being negative for the sake of being negative but how else do you plan on helping Bryce out if not through the draft? We are going to lure top free agents here? Have you seen what is available? Do you believe the top part of what COULD be available actually will be come free agent time? We drafted Bryce with those draft picks... are you not happy with Bryce? -

Denver was 14th in defensive points allowed last year under Evero despite being 10th worst in sacks. They employed a shut down corner in Surtain ( Jaylon Johnson ) and their sack leader had 6.5 sacks. He employs a system that leads to coverage sacks and bad throws. They had more sacks from linebackers than they did their defensive ends. With Johnson here and Horn coming back ( what are the odds he gets hurt AGAIN ? ) it would be even better than what he had in Denver at corner. -

This would be a significant get for us so we can't allow that. -

A corner and two draft picks that we could use on .... drum roll.... offensive players to .... drum roll .... help Bryce on offense!!! Good lord this reply might be the worst reply on the huddle I have ever seen in the history of the huddle or its previous iterations. Lets be overly dramatic rather than add any sort of value to the conversation. -

The rumor on the Bears sub is that this will help give Johnson a view of what other teams would pay him now, they don't trade him away, and they offer him a contract that matches the best of what his agent could get from another team. -

A bird in hand. Burns is still very young for the NFL. The only other trade I feel would be better for the Bears would be trying to make a trade in similar fashion to the Commanders for Chase Young plus other assets. -
Jaylon Johnson and the Bears could not come to an agreement on a contract extension and his agent was told they can seek a trade. He is a true #1 corner and has had to cover #1 with an inferior pass rush the past few seasons. We obviously have corner issues here in Carolina. Right now Troy Hill and CJ Henderson are our starting Corners and Jaycee Horn is never available. We lose both Troy Hill and Henderson at the end of the year to free agency as well. I would make the pitch: **Panthers get** CB Jaylon Johnson Chicago Bears 2nd round pick ( Currently 37 ) Chicago Beards 3rd round pick ( Currently 68 ) This would give Carolina picks 34, 37, 66 and 68. **Bears get** DE Brian Burns We get a long term secondary player and some decent draft capital back after the trade up to get Young, and extend him for significantly cheaper than what Burns is going to get. Chicago gets the pass rushing DE they have been after and can sign him easily as they have the most cap space going into next season and the second most the year after that. I also think it makes sense for Chicago to trade Justin Fields right now ( I am not sure I believe his dislocated thumb can't grip a football this week ) and they already announced TBag is the starter this week. I think that is to give Tyson all the reps with the ones while they take offers for Justin so they can get some of this draft capital back. Johnson is an 84.4 grade on PFF is thats your kind of thing. And he is doing this with no pass rush. Chicago is dead last with 10 sacks as a team. 5 lower than the next lowest team. Chicagos leading sack guy has 2 on the season.

Why Trading Burns is the Only Path to Getting a #1 WR in 2024
Varking replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
Firstly, the kid has a hard time holding onto NFL passes right now. Secondly they have him in a rookie contract with a few years left on it, why would they give up on him already? -
I’m a sucker for the blue. Hopefully I’ll have a Young jersey come year 3.
-
Yeah I knew that. Hence the lol in the reply. Was trying to be light.
-
I’m significantly younger than this gent and would never pull what he did there lol. I still rock my Cam Newton jersey to the games. When we have another QB lead us to a Super Bowl appearance or back to back winning seasons I’ll snag another jersey.

What are you going on about? I said just that about Mike Evans for like three straight comments. He pointed out that Evans isn’t a burner and I said he still had good wheels. He said he preferred Higgins because he’s more twitchy fast and younger and I said he was the same type of player as Evans. Meaning he is a good speed but not great and he wins the 50/50 balls. There’s zero need for the dramatics.
