This. There’s no scenario where I’d feel comfortable taking Mond in the first and I’d even prefer not to take him in the second.

He came out of the woodworks with tears already in his eyes and has gotten super offended over my opinion. I didn’t even say he couldn’t throw. I pointed out he is thousands of reps and reads behind these other guys and it’s going to take him time to get it. This triggered something deep in his soul.

You haven’t countered anything I’ve written. Something is going on with you today. I have said I didn’t want Lance. That’s correct. I’ve never claimed I didn’t say that. This is the case of you making up arguments I’m not making. He’s not my first choice. I’ve also said I completely understand why the Panthers would take him. YES I HAVE!! I’ve also said I’d support him if he was the pick. YES I HAVE!! I hope your day gets better.

Where have I written he can’t throw? There’s a select few users who get very defensive whenever you knock a prospect that they want to get behind. And thousands is likely accurate. You practice the plays you run. If you are a running school you throw less. This means you throw less in practice as well. It’s a legit concern. Look at a guy like Trevor Lawrence and here is a kid who aired it out in high school and then got to air it out in college. Thats practice reps. Camp reps. And most importantly it’s game reps. It doesn’t help that he basically got this year off after playing one full season of football. That being said, I’ve REPEATEDLY stated I would completely understand why we would draft him. That doesn’t mean he is my ideal pick. It also doesn’t mean I don’t think he can throw. I think from a development standpoint he’s going to need more work than the others to have a big workload in the NFL throwing the ball. There are things to love about the kid and there are things that make you worry. Pro style offenses don’t limit your QB to 10 throws during the National Championship game.

He’s thousands of throws and reads behind the other QBs in this draft. He played at a high school that didnt throw the ball so he wasn’t recruited and then went to the top D2 school who are run dominant and he only played for one year. That’s a ton of first team reps missed. He has the potential to have the highest ceiling of all the kids in this draft but kids are often protected in college. They avoiding throwing the ball a lot with him.

https://theathletic.com/2360439/2021/02/02/panthers-quarterback-deshaun-watson-teddy-bridgewater/ “Based on what I saw and heard from scouts who were in Mobile, I don’t think the Panthers will be trading back for Mac Jones, Jamie Newman, Kellen Mond or any of the Senior Bowl quarterbacks. It was an underwhelming week for them - they generally looked more like backups at the next level.”

Share your algorithm and I’ll share who I want to draft.

Hell just come back on a different account again. That’s why he had to start over on this one. He won’t even share his algorithm for Mac Jones and Kyle Trask lol.

This isn’t a good assessment. Not only was OSU missing different players on defense but Smith is wildly head and shoulders above any receiving threat that Lawrence had and their offensive line is way better than Clemson.

It’s a bunch of things he’s said together. Like calling Watson average and telling us Jones will be better for sure. .

Framing QB discussions with Trucks versus Trailers
Varking replied to trueblade's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don’t think anything they wrote above indicated Stafford is a truck. -
How does one determine he has average pre snap reads vs elite? I don’t believe he has elite pre snap reads. He isn’t exactly under pressure to make reads. Count to 2.5 and Smith will have yards of separation on his man. If not turn and dump off to Harris who will outrun or truck college defenders for easy yards. And he had the best line in football protecting him. It would have made sense to play in the Senior Bowl because it would be the first time he lines up with his offensive talent equal to the other teams defensive talent and be away from Saban. Instead he got tapped on the leg and we will never see him before the draft in live games without the best talent in college football carrying him.

Depends on where we pick. Do I want to draft a career backup QB in the first round? Absolutely not. That’s why I don’t want Jones.
