-5 to +15 yards past the LOS is where Young will probably live (or die). I consider finding players who can consistently win a contested catch battle to be super highly important because the deep ball range isn’t gonna be so deep. Winning a race downfield probably puts the defender closer to where ball ends up and you are gonna need that ability to succeed. I don’t see long striders as valuable to us, at all. In 2.7 or less, speed probably won’t do as much as grip strength, which is a weird thing. We are not on well trodden ground here.

The Panthers need Bryce to have competition. For a few reasons. He has not been the best QB on thew roster and it isn’t even close. He needs to prove he can beat someone, for real

Pessimism is not blind and starts at 5’9. It moves on to that arm, that cannot get any juice on a football unless he has a runway to put his who body into the throw. You might get 45 air yards maybe, if he has that opportunity. Why do you want to deal with that when you have the top pick? Tell you what you won't get: flick that wrist like a pro and the ball is flying on a shallow trajectory 30-40-50 yards and when they put their body onto it, a sight more than your boy.

IMO the Bryce bar is really low. But Canales couldn’t have gotten hired not being behind Bryce Young; there is no reason to hope for competition this year. Theoretically though, not talking starters only. Probably half the backups (could beat him out) too. It doesn’t validate anything other than he is one notch higher than Bryce. Then you still have a guy you have to decide on fast because of that contract. Won’t be cheap. So if he doesn’t truly light it up, you back in the land of lukewarm conviction.

DJ Johnson needs to step to it on that potential. Any TE. Both new guards. Sanders doing anything would be nice.

People saying he never had anybody open... not true. That he saw them? I think he missed a lot. That isn’t really my issue with him, that happens to everybody, that is more with his defenders. I think there is NFL open, that people aren’t looking at that and they are cherrypicking plays where people aren’t open, or aren’t obviously open. There are lots of plays where guys were covered too, yes. I don’t think that is uncommon in the NFL. Seen it many times.

Well I flat out don’t think he does have a good enough arm. There is not a thing I have seen from him that makes that sound ridiculous. It would be ridiculous if there were no evidence that it’s true. I don’t see him as having proven otherwise in 16 NFL games. For me, I cannot at all understand what you think he will be top ten at. In writing. The more defenses can shrink the area they believe they have to defend, the more congested ands harder it will get. I don’t see him getting them to back off. What is going to happen is they will hide him and ask much less of him, mostly so he can succeed at something and get his mind right. They hope. Canales has already said. Going point guard in the half court as long as they can. If they can. The should be able to run on most people now, the backs jobs just got a lot easier. It was a pretty major OL move of course people feel it was almost an above and beyond overreaction but I like OL, no complaints. So they will possibly get him to look good enough justify them not replacing him. But that’s the ceiling as I see it. Thanks to the internet I know Bill Walsh said you know by 24 games maybe it was 25 games. That you may know sooner but you will for sure know by then. One way or the other. My biggest worry is that if he hasn’t improved significantly by then, IOW has not proven it by then, that people won’t pull the plug and move on.

FTR I don’t want Fields. That looming contract stuff complicates the proposition. It has zero to do with Young. Would I rather watch Fields play? Yes. His mediocrity is better than Young’s.
