I can see how it could work to a degree if they do the 'spare no expense or effort' at shoring up the weakness. IMO if we are going down that road, just get a 5th rounder that can play from under center, and has an NFL arm. Let them go at it and best player wins the job. I don’t personally care at all for the style of offensive football they will be playing to eventually get to .500 or a little better - unless it actually does turn out to be ground and pound with play action deep shots - I love that poo. The style thing is a large factor in my disapproval of drafting this guy. It’s gonna be ball out in 2.5, 5 yard and a cloud of turf pellets. Now I do love and appreciate a nicely thrown ball with ‘touch’ on it (looking at you, Cam), but when that is all that he can do, it won’t be fun.

No doubt, we won’t see it but the Panthers desperately need a QB with an arm.

Are we low-key tanking? Donnelly thinks we're half-tanking.

That milk is so spilt. His contract is fully guaranteed. What the heck would it mean if you did trade a guy in that scenario? I understand that if you cut him, simple. You are on the hook for all of it. Is there any relief to be found at all for a team in a trade situation? -
Sure, but what you are saying (or the people saying BOPA) is that a value choice has arbitrarily been made to exclude defensive players from consideration. Because, greater need. Keep on with that train of thought and you can get to elevating QB to the biggest need. Personally I wish they’d get another young QB to compete and may the least terrible win. Doesn’t have to be at 33. Don’t care where they get him just get him. (make this guy show me he can beat Somebody out. It would help him too if he could).

Mike Kaye: Panthers going after starting C
strato replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Okay I don’t understand that assertion so much. For the reason that just yesterday or the day before Canales said on camera with Kay Adams that we would be able to run the ball. Sounded determined. Talked about it as the team’s identity. Really, put up Canales picture and run John Fox audio, it still fits. Yeah. Run the ball and play defense. QB one of 11. Sounded serious, and looking at the tools of the QB he has to work with, probably exactly what he should do. Okay, that, and the success the team had running the ball after Rhule was fired and Bozeman was at C for that. So I don’t know about that take. (yeah the fit could still be all wrong which would make me wrong). But I saw the same things other people saw last year. Not good enough. Ands it probably won’t be run the ball the same way Fox would. Run it after the catch of a short throw is more what I think we will see than under center play action, though I do expect some of that. . As far as Bozeman in general, what was mentioned about the guys on his flanks, is fair. People want the QB to get help but not the C apparently. (OTOH I would also understand thinking the LT REALLY needs help so the C has to be a guy who generally doesn’t need help). I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I expected a rough year for him simply because he had a newborn. Unless I’m mistaken, the first child. That is rough on a guy that has to get up and be super fresh and physical and ready to excel at work. You don’t get any sleep. Another new scheme. No freaking help from his QB or the guys at G. I guess it’s possible as well, that maybe he could slide to G or be an interior super sub. Or play somewhere else. -
That's probably what they will do except they will unfortunately exclude QB. If there is a QB sitting there that has a reasonable chance to be better than the one we have? If that happened, they would pass. I’d sure love to hear the discussion over it. (edit: take the damned QB, the one we have has not given us a reason not to). For me, I want a special player and don’t care what position. Just be special. Absolutely do not pass on special. A center, a returner, safety, don’t care what their position is. Do that and go find more of them.

Let’s see. We Tried to win last year and went 2-15. It was an honest 2-15. There is no 1st round pick. Losing comes naturally. So it ain’t tanking. If we do decide to tank, we are gonna 100% have to keep Bryce healthy. -
Would keeping Burns require another big D-line addition?
strato replied to Donald LaFell's topic in Carolina Panthers
We got a couple of good seasons off of rental rushers in the past. Yes that was when we were contending which gets you the top guys usually, but I think with every position: they are all stopgaps. Except for the ones that aren’t. Sign a guy a year if you want to until you get the chance to add the right player and check that spot off your list. That would actually be the same approach I’d have at QB. Draft or sign UDFA or UFA, one a year. Hold an open competition every year until you don’t need to. Keep churning the bottom of the barrel and keep the backup slot competitive. -
Mingo... I’d say his first year was washed from the coaching turmoil; but he got a lot of reps and I expect this coming year to show him ready to compete. I don’t think he has a good QB throwing to him though, so my expectations are tempered. edit: if he had a league average QB throwing to him, he could possibly be a league average #2? I don’t know how to tell in this situation. You guys talking about taking all this time to ‘fairly’ evaluate Bryce..... how can you evaluate players off of playing with him? This was just such a misguided plan.

I like what she said. Most of it. Better than a bunch. She seems to have an inquisitive mind. The crap where she’s bragging over corrupting the team’s playing surface for the 40 ticketed events blah blah, definitely the lowlight.

Division Talk: Falcons are heavy favorites to land Justin Fields
strato replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well we are only going to be looking up at three teams for the next year, or three, or 5. Depending on when they get serious about having a pro QB in Carolina. So what’s the difference? You’d rather look up at TB or the Saints? -
EXCLUSIVE: Panthers add LSU coach to Dave Canales staff
strato replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yay more anlytics -
And the Panthers media people, just to keep the ridicule down.
-
That’s funny, in terms of Bryce Young, Wilson, the similarities (Wilson is a better Bryce and still sucks). Now add Canales and that history along with the current geography and you have to break out the Ouija board.

He forgot how to catch, but that was before the concussion.
-
Somebody tell me this is photoshopped.

Too bad about Bozeman. That family was a Panthers for life possibility. I took a newborn and the rough situation with the offensive “leadership” and no help on either side of him, into too much account. I thought, or hoped, that with competence on his wings he could hold it steady this year. I think he is a Bryce casualty, they want to Overbuild the inside.

If that is your answer... I definitely wasted my ‘breath’. My disappointment isn’t in him, it is in the people who are fooled by.... well I was trying to find out what they are fooled by, by asking. But you don’t have anything. No one will say anything. They post college video and echo non critical opinions by people who were 100% in on him ands are still hanging on to that. All you have is excuses, blame diverted, etc.... n no concrete example of why Young is ..... good.

To your question, it is sort of a strawman. I wouldn’t know how to start figuring trhat equation, and it doesn’t matter. It matters what HE is doing. I could tell you why Not to take him within 30 minutes of video time. Less. It is his arm and his speed and his footwork (I laughingly refer to it as footwork). Let’s just get to the nitty gritty of Bryce. The QB. The issue. Maybe I should ask you to explain why you think he can be an All Pro or a winning QB in the NFL. Wouldn’t that be a much better thing to see here than some guess about some QB and some WRs that don’t freaking matter? I bet Everyone would love to see this: your words, your points from what You have seen from this player. Positive. Not blaming others for anything. Stick to the player. Tell us why others should listen to the Bryce stans, from a Bryce stan. That’s what we need to see to maybe have a little hope. The hope I havce for him rises to ab out 7-10, 9-8, AT BEST. That is With all those things y'all say he needs to succeed.

I was thinking it would be pretty something if she were the dissenting voice in the consensus. That’s entertainment.
-
Yeah. Have to concede that to Dave, especially with hindsight in play. In isolation. In the big picture he - Gettleman - fuged us hard in the secondary around all of that. It is kind of coming back to me a little, aarrgghh. If I am remembering correctly it was a clear example of his enormous ego.
-
That's kind of a quandary. And I can’t believe that the field is being compacted because of slow WRs. But you k now, I won’t complain about fast WRs, as a general benefit to your team. Of course we want fast WRs. Anyhow, note the guy throwing to Worthy in the first video is standing flat footed. Very compact delivery fwiw. Young will be going all out to launch his (smart) bombs. I know it sounds like I am always after the guy (I kind of am) but how do you ignore that? Canales better not. And okay, getting pockets that clean to step into, seeing what it takes space and time wise for him to get a ball to last 50 yards in the air, it’s a tall order for the OL. But give it to him and move to the next aspect. I think people are diagnosing this like Gettleman and his tall WRs are the answer to Cam’s sailing balls miscalculation. For Young, if he is no deep threat, well it has be the WRs are too slow and the OL can’t hold blocks long enough for them to run 35 yards. Right? I mean, that is what people contend, yes? I see what you see, what are they supposed to do, run downfield stop and get ready to jump? How fast do you need to be to be?

Wait, if Tepper shows at the combine, what happens? Just think about it. No first rounder to start with so where is he making a splash? And EVERY question will be about Bryce, that trade, Stroud, it would be days of accountability.

Ain't that the truth. Express an opinion. Ask questions... whatever. Talent evaluation and a vote? That can’t be true.
