The what? You seem to be arguing against what I said when we pretty much are in agreement.

The path to a dominant offensive line
LinvilleGorge replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, I hope we drafted well with Christensen and Brown and I hope the development is going well because we need upgrades sooner rather than later. I want to compete. I want to see what Darnold can develop into behind a serviceable OL, but I don't think this current group of starters can manage to become that. -
Fitterer better be on the phone with the Packers.
LinvilleGorge replied to Ivan The Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
If they were willing to trade him I'd be very wary. ACL treatment and recovery has progressed leaps and bounds in the last 20 years or so but it's still a very serious injury that not everyone bounces back from. -
I'm fine with moves like this. I mean, we traded a 6th round pick from two years from now. We didn't exactly hamstring ourselves. Hell, we might end up getting that pick back or possibly even upgrading that pick via a comp pick if we let him walk in FA.

Fitterer has "called around" about offensive linemen
LinvilleGorge replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is my only real frustration about the staff this season. Moton at LT and Christensen at RT always felt like our best OT tandem. I can't help but feel like if we had rolled with that tandem at OT and Brown at RG since opening day we'd be on the cusp of fielding a decent OL at this point as everyone gelled and adjusted to the NFL. -
I think Gilmore is a one year rental indicating Horn is highly unlikely to return this year. Jackson was one of the first players Fitts talked up and he's played well this year. I think he's in the long-term plans.

When you're recovering from a foot injury you're not going to be immediately in football game shape no matter how young and talented you are. His dad played over a decade in the league. He's seen these situations before. He's gonna be in Jaycee's ear on how to handle this. He's not gonna let his son put himself in danger of injury by going out there and playing before he should.
-
I just don't see him recovering from this injury, getting himself back into football game shape, AND being a better option than other the other guys we've been adding who will have had the advantage of being fully in the swing of things. We'll see him in a uniform again in next year's training camp.

Haven't read through the thread, but I have to wonder if someone is moving to FS? We're STACKED at CB now even with the injury to Horn but what we could really use is a true deep FS to free up Chinn to roam underneath.

A critique of Darnold through 4 games

I'm not gonna sugarcoat this. I could literally not possibly care any less about what you think. And that you think this thread might have had any possibility of being created to get any credit from you or thode of your ilk is hilarious. It's just football conversation. I'm not seeking any validation from any "camp" on this forum and if my posting history is proof of anything, it's that. -
Stephon Gilmore is about to be released by the Patriots!

I've never understood the people who take their disdain for a player to a personal level. Even the Panthers I've drug through the mud like Jimmy Clausen, Armanti Edwards, Byron Bell, Amini Silatolu, etc. I never heard anything about them indicating they didn't work hard and do everything the coaches asked of them. That's all a player can do. If he still fails then it's not his fault. It's an evaluation issue, a development issue, or a utilization issue at that point and that's on the staff and/or front office. The only time I hold it against the player is when it's clear that it's his fault. Take Kelvin Benjamin. He showed on the field that he had the ability to develop into a big time NFL WR, but the guy constantly showed up to camp out of shape and then blamed everyone under the sun for every issue he's ever faced on the way out the door. His failure is on him. -

I have my opinions and I'm not afraid to share them, but I'm always happy to be wrong if it works out to the benefit of the Panthers. -
We're pretty far down the waiver wire. I hope we make a claim though.

There were posters here who didn't want Zach Wilson because his appearance reminded them of Jimmy Clausen. I'm serious. -

The thing you don't understand is I am too. I like to talk football. If you want to just be in an echo chamber of nothing but positivity, there's an ignore feature. -

Yep. Darnold has far exceeded my expectations so far and he's been very good under pressure. But God forbid I mention that he has two glaring opportunities for improvement and suggest that I think he can fix them. LOL! -

If you read this thread and only see me complaining about Darnold then you have some severe selective reading habits. -

Yeah, we should stop discussing how we could improve. Let's just be happy with being the mediocre franchise we've always been and hang out hats on those handful of years when we fielded a good team that didn't quite make it all the way to the checkered flag. Some of y'all really can't understand that I'm happy to be wrong when it benefits the Panthers. I'm just a guy who loves talking football, doesn't mind formulating and sharing an opinion, and isn't afraid to be wrong. Sorry I'm not sorry that it makes you mad. -
Meanwhile, over at that other expansion team...

This feels like it's headed toward an Al Davis/Lane Kiffen style "fired with cause" type situation. -

Nah, you just wanted to act like I was being entirely negative toward Darnold when this thread is anything but that. It's okay. No player is perfect. No team is perfect. Critique is okay. Praise is okay. There just has to be some balance of the two or this place becomes an echo chamber. -

If you took my comments in this thread as "backhanded compliments" then you're just beyond hardheaded. Sam has far exceeded my expectations but there are two IMO obvious areas for improvement. I guess being a "believer" means only glowing praise all the time, nothing else can be accepted. We already dealt with a very annoying group of posters who did that with Cam. I really hope it doesn't happen with Darnold and honestly, the fans that followed Darnold here aren't among that very small group. It's long-term posters. It's just weird. We're all desperate for a new legit entrenched franchise QB, but don't go over the cliff with it. -

Darnold is tied for 5th in the NFL in combined TDs. I have no issue with that. I fully expect his rushing TDs to come back to Earth as defenses account for the threat, but that should also open up opportunities. Our redzone offense isn't as bad as some of y'all are making it out to be and it's trending upward. We're 15th in redzone TD% on the year and 9th over the last three games. We were 100% yesterday.
