You'd be sour on a newly acquired FA for being good when he was paid to be great too. So would I. Mike Wahle is a great Panthers comp.
-
His new deal still makes him a top 10 paid LG with the guaranteed money and as high as the #3 paid LG if he hits the escalators. He's good, they just paid him to be great on that initial contract.
-
Yep. Like I've been saying, Norwell hasn't been bad he just hasn't lived up to that massive contract the Jags gave him. He's a good OG but he was never the type of OG you entertain making the highest paid at the position.
-
Trai got fat as poo That's my point of his listed weight was 320 he definitely tickled the scales around that point by the time we parted ways with him. Norwell has disappointed based on the size of his contract, but he's been a solid OG. He wasn't paid to be "solid".

Then I'm even more baffled.

How can you disagree about his receivers being wide open and his protection being outstanding?

Trey Lance - best QB of this draft not named Lawrence

There's no such thing as a sure thing in the NFL draft. -

Nobody thought all those other highly drafted OTs were gonna bust either. Remember Robert Gallery? He was supposed to be the best OT prospect in a looking time. Some don't even think Sewell is the best in this class. Yeah, Sewell is a very good prospect but better have busted. -

For everyone begging for Sewell while talking about the risks of the QB prospects, feel free to take a look at the loooooong list of 1st round OT busts in the last 15 years or so. -

No one has a crystal ball. Sure, one of those guys could develop injury problems like Garappolo. Goff was always physically limited. It was baffling that he was a #1 overall pick. His arm is average at absolute best. Same with Foles. He has a good arm, but concrete boots for feet. All three of the draft prospects we're talking about as well as Watson have a lot better physical tools than Goff and Foles. -

Every Super Bowl roster has holes. But they don't have holes at QB. -

That's up to the folks making the decision. Me the fan? Yeah, I can fall in love with any of the three of them. -
Were they as PROSPECTS though? It's easy to say that knowing what they turned out to be in the NFL. Watson showed the ability to play some real hero ball at Clemson but he was kinda like Fields in that sometimes he looked like the best player in college football while in other games he just looked flat out off. Mahomes had tremendous raw talent but he needed a lot of work from a footwork perspective and their were a lot of question marks about the offense he came out of. Those guys were good prospects but far from slam dunks.

What I'm saying is I'm fine with drafting any of the three of them. -

My preference of the non-Lawrence QBs is Wilson but it won't shock me if any out of Wilson, Fields, and Lance proves to be the best of the class. There's a lot to like about all three but legit reasons for concern too. -

Kaepernick was a sub-60% college passer. VERY few of those guys work out. -

When is the last time a guy with his physical traits was drafted in the 2nd round? -

How would he be a 2nd rounder in a normal year? What does this year have to do with his draft value? -
It seems like player weights rarely get updated though out their careers even though some clearly fluctuate. If I was betting money, Trai was north of 360 in recent years. Dude was getting to the point where his waistline needed to be measured in yards.
-
A lot of OL just keep going back to the Pro Bowl off name recognition alone. You really thought Trai deserved a Pro Bowl nod his last year with us? That was a joke. If he was a legit Pro Bowl caliber player we wouldn't have traded him for a LT who was already reportedly mulling retirement. Norwell has been the better OG for awhile now. He's not the elite OG the Jags paid him to be and that's why he got released, but he's a serviceable starting OG. Trai just seems to have mailed it in and he's been fat as poo for years now.
-
Honestly, I don't know. His motivation level seems questionable at absolute best these days and I think we're going to have a lot of young OL in the locker room. Not sure he's the best vet mentor for that type of room. If we're bringing back a former player on the OL I'd rather have Norwell.
