That's fair. I mean, everyone definitely questions Patrick Mahomes' ability to throw deep with that noodle arm of his. Honestly, I think our inability to threat defenses vertically is the #1 issue wrong with our offense.

It's not surprising. I think going into the season if you were objectively looking at the NFL you would've circled the NFC South as having both the worst QB situation and the worst overall offensive situation. I mean, if you had an open NFL draft, how many NFC South offensive players would be drafted in say the top 100 picks?

NFL Next Gen stats. Maybe they weren't updated after the latest game? I don't know. Okay, second to dead last in that category behind a guy who has been playing hobbled all year

There is a long list of guys who looked great in college and it just didn't translate to the NFL for whatever reason. We've all seen the college highlights. They don't matter anymore in our context. If you're a Bama fan or college football fan wanting to talk about the college player, fully relevant. As it pertains to the Panthers currently? Couldn't possibly be more irrelevant. We are now watching him play in the NFL. That's what's relevant this point. The deep balls have been rare and when they have been thrown they've been terrible. That's just the harsh current reality.

His longest pass completes traveled 33 yards in the air. That's... lemme check... dead last in the NFL. His average in air distance is 6.3 yards. Lemme check again... yep, dead last.

This. We need to transition to preparing for the future. Just wait to see how desperate we get late in the season if we're on track to hand #1 overall to the Bears. Tepper does NOT want that embarrassment.

It sucks we can't figure out how to use Chinn. This is what I was afraid of when they were calling him a nickelback in the off-season. He ain't a nickel. He's an in the box SS or a weak side OLB. If you're not going to use him as such just trade him for whatever you can get and let him move on with his career because this is just a waste for everybody.

I honestly feel bad for the Panthers' PR team. What an impossible gig.

Yeah, if we recreate the Dolphins or Niners situation then Bryce has a chance. What's our chances of recreating those scenarios though? Good OL, offensive genius of a coach, elite weapons everywhere. That's all we need.

A run? A RUN??? What in the fug??!!!
-
Hell, sometimes he literally jumps like a frog with his shoulders square to the field and tries to throw. That poo has to stop. Nobody can generate any velocity like that.
-
I'd you don't have a great arm you have to make up for it with great accuracy and anticipation. Bryce shows decent anticipation and good accuracy in the short to mid-range throws but his deep accuracy has just been flat out bad. There's really no way to sugarcoat that aspect.

There's a week 6 thread somewhere

The difference here is that the closest defender in front of him was a good five yards away. The pocket is usually muddy in the NFL and you're almost never going to have five yards of open field in front of you to wind up to go deep. That's why a lot of guys that have NFL average arms threw at a good velocity at the Combine. Kirk Cousins threw the ball 59mph at the Combine. Cam threw it 56mph. But who has the stronger arm in NFL game action? It's kinda like 40 time and "game speed". What Bryce was able to do in college just hasn't translated so far in the NFL with overall bigger, faster, smarter, more experienced defensive players opposing him in more complex schemes.

Our only hope at this point is for things to get ugly enough and embarrassing enough for Tepper that it forces himself to realize he has to step away from the football decisions. It's the only way.
-
I honestly hope Stroud throws for 400 yards and 5 TDs just for the lulz
-
Hell, I wish we would've done that. Our philosophy with Cam was that Cam was the offense so now we can spend all our resources on D. These guys were gonna try to replicate that idiotic approach and what we're seeing is the results of trying that with a guy who isn't a generational talent at QB.

You'd have to put it in New Jersey where he'd be more likely to see it

Brian Burns statline: 2 tackles, 0 sacks
LinvilleGorge replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
In other news, Hassan Reddick just got his 2nd sack of the 2nd half. -

Not trading Burns for that haul is almost as big of a blunder as trading up for Bryce. -
Yeah, I guess if Stroud horrifically blows out his knee Bryce could catch him.

The guy who was drafted because he was most NFL ready is way behind the guy considered not as NFL ready... it's like the tortoise breaking out to a big early lead over the hare.
