  1. Since he and Fitterer worked together in Seattle, it makes you wonder if they were not joined at the hip. that is problematic, but it seems more likely that Morgan would engage with FItterer and not Tepper so much. If Morgan did engage with Tepper, that might suggest that he did not feel that Fitterer was doing it and he needed to do so. When I said "reportedly" I should have said "rumored" because I meant that it has been stated--I assumed that anyone making such a statement has some knowledge of it, but yes, we have some truth stretchers on here. "Alternative facts" have become all the rage of late.
  2. While I am saying that Morgan should be considered, I am also aware that hiring from within is often a sign of insecurity. Then again, at times it is like a used car transaction--the buyer is looking at all the cool features of the car while the seller is focused on the car's issues and problems. I dunno. However, I would give Morgan a chance. He has solid references/track record and a decade of experience with 2 successful franchises. I am not sure we will find better, but I do not know his shortcomings. Someone made the point that his pizza business failed. Morgan was a football player. not a pizza guru. He was very cerebral, which means he is able to analyze his opponents tendencies and weaknesses/strengths. I would not sell him short, but I would shop around first. Keeping him on to oversee the transition is wise because it does not let him off the hook.
  3. Morgan has personnel experience in Seattle and Buffalo, and I agree with everything you say here. I actually knew Brandon Beane (he is from Norwood, NC) as a grunt Panther scout/front office coffee boy and he and I talked Panthers a few times while our cars were being inspected. At the time, I was not impressed with him, but it was interesting. I'd take him back in minute. I think his desire to return home was in the back of my mind, but he and McDermott are blood brothers.
  4. I am just repeating what others said and assumed it had been reported, so good question--if they are full of Sht, I am too. I am not sure where they got it, but I want to believe it.
  5. Same page, brother. Moton being traded is merely a cap move--he is our best OL by far.
  6. I often have these thoughts, and it is the best way to build a team. Hershel Walker to Minnesota brought Dallas rings, for example. However, as poorly as we have drafted, I dunno. CMC and Moore gutted our offense, and we got value for them in draft capital. I think of it this way, your first rounder has about a 50-60% chance of being a success, and after that, it drops to something like 25% then down to 10% on day 3. Derrick Brown in young and will be a beast in this league for the next 8-10 years. I love him as a player and maybe a little bit as a man-he knows nothing about that part.
  7. Morgan has been promoted and worked with player personnel in Seattle and Buffalo, so he has experience. I am not going to share an opinion based on the fact that I really do not know what he knows or the extent of his power. I do, however, recall some things about this that could work: 1. He knows where the bodies are buried. He knows the cancers and the players who have not bee properly developed. He has been watching and biting his lip, we assume. 2. He reportedly stands up to Tepper. If so, then that will be defined during the interview. The good sign? He stands up to to Tepper and he is still here and seems to be in position to at the very least help during this transition. 3. Experience in Seattle and Buffalo. They are successful teams that have developed talent and been competitive. He has worked under 2 of the best GMs in the NFL. 4. The Panthers will not be able to attract a proven GM, so they will be taking a chance regardless. Who is better than Morgan (I don't know--not a rhetorical question). So there are some reasons Morgan is suited for the position. We should not dismiss what we know about Morgan for what we hope might define an outside candidate. That is not to say we should not do a thorough search, but I have always been impressed with Morgan, and I would not be surprised to see him as a GM somewhere in the near future.
  8. I am not a fan of any plan to move Derrick Brown. He is the reason our defense was solid, and he is young. Give him a long term extension.
  9. Corbett might be done, or at least never the same. However, with the focus on WR, we may have few options. Rework Moton's deal and trade him. That would save nearly 30m. Our best OL, he is 30 and likely will be over the hill when this team is ready to compete for a title.
  10. Either way, if this is accurate, not a good look.
  11. He won with a solid RB and adequate to marginal QB--I think he is a good coach, frankly.
  12. I get it--and agree. But if they were presenting solid advice--like maybe, for example, they suggested Stroud over Young....It is hypothetical, but I am for the house cleaning; I just have seen too many toxic organizations get overhauled when the man at the top was the problem--you are probably right, but I try to consider things I may not understand from the outside looking in.
  13. I think they had to give him the courtesy of an interview. It is hard to justify an internal hire during a house cleaning, but we shall see. I like what I hear, but I would want to hear from outsiders. Sometimes serving in a toxic environment does not give you experience. It will be interesting, but I would love to see him serving in some capacity that influences personnel, based on what I know of his performance in that area. I do not know if our scouts were terrible or that the front office did not listen to their recommendations, so his relationship with scouting is important one way or another.
  14. What is the story on JJ McCarthy? Is he entering the draft? If so, he would be the fourth or fifth QB-- I was also impressed with the TE from Washington (Westover, I think was his name) and he is not even listed as a potential draft pick. I would take him late and laugh about it. Good hands, routes, blocking--what is not to like about him>
  15. New GM. Hard to say what his future holds. He will probably be tagged for a season. I am guessing he might be traded if the Panthers can get back into the first round. Fitterer--you should have had to take the Wonderlic before being hired.
  16. Hurney was good (safe for the most part) in round 1. I give him that. After that, he lost his mind.
  17. That is what I have heard--not seeing BB as a west coast guy, but Herbert was the deal breaker for me. I think Atlanta is a close second, fwiw.
  18. That is a thought, but I would hope they would not have zeroed in on a type yet--but who knows?
  19. That could suggest that they are going to overhaul the scouting department? If I were GM, I would have the scouts pitch the candidate to the head coach and me. I get the feeling our scouts were not given the respect they should have been given. They are the real talent evaluators--we shall see. However, if I see the Teppers at the combine or pro days, I am going to send someone a blistering letter mind you.
  20. Nice zinger. She married a billionaire. I am pretty sure that is her specialty! But Hedge funds, Appaloosa, brass desk balls, analytics. Ain't that how football works?
  21. Glad you are back--I left for a while as well. thanks for these informative, important threads. Although I love the threads about how Bryce cannot ride all the rides at Carowinds due to his vertical disadvantage, I am happy to digest some real news. You are the best.
  22. If Bill B switches teams, I am guessing the Chargers. Established QB. The Raiders are going to hire their interim. They have done it before, and frankly, Pierce deserves the job (went 5-4, I think, and is popular with the players). Atlanta is an appealing gig. They drafted TE and RB in the first round, which is odd, but both are good players. I would not be surprised to see Vrabel end up there if Tennessee lets him go. Washington needs a QB and they have the #2 pick--which means they will be drafting a franchise QB. This job may be the most attractive to any perspective coach for that reason. The Commanders MAYE have 2 UNC QBs on the roster by mid spring. Any coach would love that situation. Carolina has a rep for firing coaches that do not get immediate results, but the QB position is a #1 overall draft pick who struggled mightily in 2023. The owner is a meddler. We are not getting a brand name coach--expect some young upstart who just started shaving every day. Tepper needs to make some public proclamations to assure season ticket holders and perspective employees that he has learned his lesson.
  23. I was at a camp practice in Spartanburg and I heard Fox talking to Turgevac (sp) on the field. Clausen overthrew a receiver on a 15 yard dig and right behind him, Armanti Edwards dropped a punt lodged from a jugs gun. Fox made some comment that was highly critical--something like "I genuinely can't believe this Sh""t. I laughed, he looked at me and shook his head. I actually had a few very brief exchanges with Fox at OTAs and I really liked him. The Clausen/Armanti/Eric Norwood draft was all Hurney--Fox was a dead man walking that year, if you recall.
  24. If you recall, Marty got in trouble when he started trading away first rounders. I think we got Jeff Otah and Everette Brown as a result. Fitterer traded away the first overall pick, a great WR, etc etc for what would become the first overall pick and has NOTHING to show for it. Deserved to be fired--for fighting for this decision or not fighting against it.
