Every game from here on out is important. 7 more home games after tonight and 7 road games thru the month of April, including 2 against the NY Rangers, who are breathing on the Canes tail right now. I'll be at the game tonight courtesy of the Canes who gave us a pair of tickets when my wonderful wife, a huuuuuuge Caniac and Marty 88 fan, bought us season tickets for next season. First, the bad news...... Last Time Out: The Canes earned five out of a possible six points on a three-game road trip despite falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. 26 seconds into OT Jordan Staal was called for a holding penalty, sending the Bolts to the man advantage where they'd cash in for the third time to reach the 4-3 final. It was just the second time this season Carolina allowed three goals on the power play. Jarvis Racking Them Up: With yet another multi-point performance against Tampa, rookie Seth Jarvis now has had multiple points in four of his last seven games played. His 28 points this season rank fifth among players selected in the 2020 draft. The Dynamic Duo: Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen both enter tonight on five-game point streaks. Aho has three goals and two assists since March 22, while Teravainen has provided seven helpers. Cole's Contributions: Defenseman Ian Cole comes into tonight's matchup with four assists in his last three games played. It's the third time this season that the first-year Cane has had a three-game streak, the first of which involves a multi-point game. Possible Kotkaniemi Update: Tuesday in Tampa the only update Rod Brind'Amour had on forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi was that he was being looked at again on Wednesday. The team's newly extended forward was hit in the final seconds of the team's win over Washington on Monday, struggling to make his way off the ice. Brind'Amour is expected to speak to the media after morning skate. A Look At The Other Side: Since Montreal was in Raleigh four months ago they have made some massive changes to the organization. Kent Hughes was hired as General Manager on January 19 and three weeks later Martin St. Louis was named the team's new head coach. Although they will not be making the post-season this year, their team has played much better since the changes occurred, going 10-8-4 with St. Louis behind the bench. The Habs have earned points in seven of their last ten games entering tonight. ADDITIONAL NOTES: Milestones Within Reach: Max Domi's first goal with the Canes will be his 100th of his NHL career. Jordan Staal is two points shy of 600 for his career. Andrei Svechnikov is two points shy of 200 for his Hurricanes and NHL career. What Are We Wearing?: The team will be wearing their red sweaters tonight. The lineup: Domi moving up to the #2 line with Vinny and Svech. Forwards: Teravainen - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - Trocheck - Domi Niederreiter - Staal - Fast Martinook - Stepan - Necas Defensemen: Slavin - DeAngelo Skjei - Pesce Smith - Cole Starting Goalie: Andersen Injuries: Ethan Bear Jesperi Kotkaniemi Scratches: Steven Lorentz

Not to mention 2 of those PP were the result of horrible calls, especially the OT phantom hold on Staal. -

TB has a very good PP and Raanta just isn't that good on the kill. I'd be willing to bet his kill save percentage is a lot lower than Freddie's. Last night was a pretty good night, all things considered. Back-to-back after a long trip from Washington. 3 games in 4 days against quality opponents. 3 goals on the Vaseline Man and the refs gifted TB 2 penalties that resulted in PP goals. TB can't score 5-on-5 against the Canes. Heading into the final month with 7 road games and 7 home games and the home schedule isn't that difficult. A 20-point month out of a possible 28 isn't a reach. But, with a 5 point lead over the Rangers and the Canes have to play them twice in NY- they need a split and take care of business elsewhere. -

Dude, 5 points out of a possible 6 on a 3-game, 4-day road trip. -

If there's a positive takeaway- TB can't score at even strength, even with Raanta in goal. I 'll be at the game Thursday, courtesy of the Canes.... since I'm now a season ticket owner for next season! -

Some reason it took a couple minutes for my ESPN+ to kick in and I missed the goal. ESPNannouncer usually does football horrible at hockey. -
Not a thing I can find. I'm sure Tripp will have something to say tonight.

This is only important to note for the Tampa Bay team who somehow manages to stack up a $100M+ salary team every year around playoff time. https://www.tsn.ca/nhl-salary-cap-2022-23-season-gary-bettman-1.1733078

Haven't seen anything yet. He was flexing his left knee when he was helped into the locker room. Couple things going on- he was holding his ribs and his left knee was also an issue. I don't know what Ellers history is, but that should warrant a couple games.

April: 7 home games, 7 road games. Home: Minnesota, Buffalo, NY Islanders, Anaheim, Detroit, Winnipeg, NJ Devils Road: Buffalo, NY Rangers, Colorado, Arizona, NJ Devils, NY Islanders, NY Rangers I'd look at this schedule and say they should win every home game in the last month of the season, 14 points. I'd look at the road schedule and say 8 points, maybe 10 if they split with the Rangers. A 20-point month is not out of the question. Until the totally unnecessary and cheap shot on Jesperi last night, the team is getting healthier by the day and it's a good thing to have a couple healthy scratches when you know the whole team is playing well. I think Lorentz is going to step into KK's spot for the time being.

Malicious cheap shot by a scumbag team who resorts to thuggery when getting their asses kicked.

My wife has evolved into a huuuuge 88 fan.

Aho's shorty... everyone in the building thought he was going behind the net. Pesce becoming an offensive D-man lately. And before I forget- fug Tom Wilson. He shouldn't even be in the league. And fug Putin #8.

Retail, it's a $40 bottle, but I get it pretty discounted and while I wouldn't buy a case of it, I would like to keep a couple bottles in my "collection." If you're going to grill steaks for a couple appreciative friends who enjoy wine, you'll impress with this one. It's as good as any bottle I've had at twice the price. Keep your eyes open at the grocery store, like Harris Teeter, and if you see it priced at $35 or so, grab one.

Been out of touch for a couple days, get home, tune in and I missed the first 15 minutes and 2 goals. I'm hoping for 2 points between tonight and tomorrow. Gotta find a way to get past Washington- they own the Canes this season. A little surprised the Canes are favored on the road tonight. Anyone here have season tickets? We're looking at an 11-game package for next season...

Good to see Jesperi take care of business. Should not have been 10 minutes, follow-thru to Stepan's head into the glass. -
The wine dinner last night featured Orin Swift wines by Dave Phinney. Orin Swift is owned by the Gallo Family portfolio. The Slander Pinot was good. The D66 Others is a French red blend (yes, Phinney also owns a winery in France). France is divided into 90 geographical "Departments," this particular winery being in Department 66, hence D66. 8 Years in the Desert was very a good California Zinfandel. So named because Dave Phinney agreed not to make or sell any Zin for 8 years after he sold his last brand some of you may recognize- The Prisoner. So, after making Prisoner for 8 years, he had to spend another 8 years in wine purgatory before making another Zin, and this is it.
