  1. But it's the most popular sport in the world and this is the biggest "sporting event" in the world. So no one will care that Wahl died, how he died or anything else. Matter of fact, I'd be willing to bet it was barely mentioned, if at all, during today's games. $$$$$ is all that matters.
  2. And, if you watch Argentina with a Spanish ref, flopping gets you penalty kicks.
  3. Kochetkov did not impress me in the least last night. There were so many mental errors made by good hockey players that this is a team loss. The only guys who showed up to play and were on their game were Aho, Martinook, Fast and Staal. Rest of them took the night off.
  4. OT hockey. And another OTL. Against the worst team in the league. Kochetkov was less than ordinary and there's nothing good to be taken away from this loss.
  5. The worst team in the NHL scored 3 goals in the first 2 periods. Canes D has yet to show up. Team looks like they thought Anaheim would just roll over and give up.
  6. Burns had no business going below the goal line. Should have gone right to the front of the net. This is a trap game against a very bad team.
  7. Last Time Out: The Canes arrived in California already having started their road trip with two wins and Saturday night they made it a third. Brady Skjei scored just 4:01 in for the visitors and Martin Necas doubled the team's lead before the end of the first. Sebastian Aho made it 3-0 in the second and thanks to some more quality goaltending from Pyotr Kochetkov, Carolina was able to withstand a third period push by the Kings. Andrei Svechnikov added a fourth goal for Rod Brind'Amour's club and the team was able to close out a 4-2 victory from there. Turbo Is Back: Another victory within the team's victory was the return of forward Teuvo Teravainen. After missing 10 games due to an upper-body injury, #86 played 15:47 in his return, registering two shots, one block and one takeaway. Prior to his injury he had produced four assists in four games. Cookin' On The Power Play: Martin Necas' 12th goal of the year on Saturday came on the power play, at the time improving Carolina's run to six for their last 14. They've now published a power play goal in four of their last five games. Hot Hand In Net: Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 31 of 33 shots faced in net at Cyrpto.com Arena, earning his fifth win of the season. He has now won each of his last three games played (11/29-12/3), marking the longest win streak by any Canes netminder this season, and he has posted a .934 save percentage over that stretch, with 71 saves on 76 shots. Kochetkov has allowed two or fewer goals in six of his nine appearances this season, and in seven of his eight career wins. Saturday's game marked just his 10th career NHL/Hurricanes start, and his eight wins are the most in franchise history through any goaltender's first 10 career starts. Only six netminders in league history have posted nine wins through their first 10 starts, and only three this century: Martin Prusek (OTT, 2002-03), Viktor Fasth (ANA, 2013) and Igor Shesterkin (NYR, 2020). On A Run: Seth Jarvis extended his season-long point streak to five games in the win over the Kings, recording an assist on Sebastian Aho's second period goal. Martin Necas follows right behind him with at least one point in his last four outings. On The Other Side: The Ducks have struggled to start their season, currently touting a league-low 15 points in the standings. They've the only theam in the NHL allowing an average of over four goals per game and only four teams have scored fewer goals than them. Their penalty kill sits last at just 65.6% and their power play ranks 30th at just a 16.0% success rate. The core of their roster remains very young, as Troy Terry (26) and Trevor Zegras (22) lead the team in points through 26 games.
  8. One of the good things about living on the west coast is not having to stay up late for stuff like this. Sunday football starts at 10AM and you're done by 4 in the afternoon with plenty of time for yard works, etc.
  9. Slavin saves the wrap chance. Burns with 2 diving stick saves.... Kings only 19 shots thru 2 periods.
  10. So, if we hooked Kochetkov up with Kate Micucci....
  11. Boys are playing solid all around. Defense, smothering. Crisp passes. All the little things and everyone is contributing.
  12. Kochetkov holds the post better than the 2 veteran goalies on the roster.
  13. And... guess who scores! Aho! Good feed from Necas.
  14. Aho hasn't scored in a minute- he's starting to press and getting penalties instead of points.
  15. The phantom mask issue. Veteran move after getting pelted with about 5 shots. (Quick, that is.)
  16. If the PK could just improve just a little...
  17. BOOM! All started by Burns laying out for yet another break-away save.
  18. Some may be watching UNC getting trucked by Clemson. Off topic, but Mack Brown isn't getting that football team to the next level.
  19. Skjei skores on a great hustle play and pass from Martinook. Kochetkov looks calm and focused thus far. Pesce's 500th game. Bet he gets a point tonight.
  20. Skjei skores. (Just came to me). Kochtkov seeing early action and standing tall. Couple good saves already.
  21. I'm tuning in tonight. No practice yesterday or a morning skate this today, so they may be fresh, but a little tight.
  22. He was soft, cramping or not. No excuse for 2 of their 3 goals. Regardless, there are questions that need answers..
  23. Andersen gets hurt and Kochetkov gets recalled from Chicago. Raanta and Kochetkov split time in the crease until Thursday night. Raanta gets pulled following the second intermission. He gave up 3 goals in 15 shots, and, giving Raanta the benefit of the doubt, 2 of them were soft. Andersen is skating in Raleigh and his return appears to be imminent, but it's only a matter of time before he's hurt again. So, with Andersen's $4.5M, Raanta's $2M and Kochetkov's $842k now and $2M starting next season, what are the Canes options? They can't assign either Andersen or Raanta to Chicago without waiving them first and see if they clear. Will they send Kochetkov back to Chicago once Andersen is healthy? Let's read your thoughts!
