  1. 3 guys went to the puck, nobody stayed home on the back door.
  2. I thought they might have a little more knowledge of the game. Sounds like a lot of bandwagon hockey idiots that don't know the rules or how the game is played. Good first period. Canes had some opportunities on the offensive end, but when the Isles start to push, they cycle really well and the Canes are challenged to win the board battle and clear the zone.
  3. Not really, but western hockey is different than eastern hockey. The real issue is, especially in the eastern games, is the ref have lost control of the games. The fact that Bunting got a 3-game playoff suspension with a high hit in the midst of a play on the puck, but nothing has been done with the Islander intentional hits and shots on the Canes, Dumba's hit that concussed Pavelski and put him in the protocol, the Boston thuggery that caused the refs to end the game with time on the clock. It's bullsh!t that Bunting got 3 games and Dumba got none. Stupid that nothing beyond interference was called on Martin's hit on Staal and subsequently sitting on him. Pageau's intentional whack that broke TT's hand. McAvoy wanted to start a fight with 3 seconds left on the clock until someone else started a fight instead. I love the intensity of playoff hockey, but it never has to get to the point of injuring the opponents and the league and officials have lost control.
  4. Conventional wisdom was the team overachieved during the regular season and wasn't supposed to be this good for another year or 2. That being said, I was at least hoping the Devils could lean on the Rags a little and wear them out, but they're making this pretty easy and NY might be sitting at home, resting up, and waiting to see who they face next.
  5. End of the Boston game was ugly. Boston had nothing for Florida, so they started taking cheap shots and when the Panthers responded, Boston dropped gloves. Kudos to Florida for standing up and not taking any stupid retaliation penalties. Typical Boston crap- can't win with the stick and puck- so just start hitting guys and hope for a fight.
  6. I love playoff hockey- there is no other professional sport that comes close to the excitement of the NHL post-season. It's a different brand of game and the refs allow for a lot more than the regular season. That being said, there is absolutely no place for some of the incidents that took place last night. The high stick on Aho was one thing- it was a legit hockey play and a penalty was called. However, coincidental with that hit was the head shot that went uncalled. The Martin hit on Staal from behind, then holding him down on the ice should have been a game misconduct and, at the very least, deserves a 1-game suspension. The Pageau slash that broke TT's hand was an obvious penalty and there was clearly no attempt to make a play on the puck. It was a deliberate chop on the hands that should also get the league's attention. We'll see.
  7. Next man up. Guess we'll see what Pool Party is really made of.
  8. Carolina's anemic PP let's teams take double minors with little threat to pay the price.
  9. Not to get this sent to the TB, but NC is doing its best to regress to the levels of SC as quick as it can.
  10. This. But wait, you were about ready to hand him the Vezina just last week. Just sit back and play house on the Rangers, allow them to cycle 5v5 and rotate the puck at will on the PP, the Devils may get outscored 25-5 in a 5 game series.
  11. Dougie Hamilton is not a Hurricane because he can't play D. May as well make him an oversized forward. I dare say Chatfield, Ghost and, obviously Burns, are better defensive players than Doug Hamilton. Sure, Chatty and Ghost don't have the offensive output, but you don't sign blue-liners to provide offense.
  12. I was 100% wrapped in the game from the opening drop and didn't post. 2 goals and a win are not the typical outcome of a Canes game. Officiating was horrible, and how Necas took a high stick and was bloodied without any of the 4 officials seeing it is ridiculous. Mayfield laying on top of Stepan long after the whistle. The refs definitely gave NY a lot of room to play as physical as they wanted. Raanta was lights out and the Isles had plenty of high danger chances while the Canes D lapsed around the net. Crowd was amazing and likely added some adrenaline to the Canes bench.
  13. Larsen fired as HC of the Blue Jackets. Had 2 seasons under his belt following Tortarella's tenure
  14. Ever notice how the 4 major sports in this country just continue to retread coaches? Regardless of their performance, regardless of their history, they just keep getting jobs. When will a team truly pull a Ted Lasso and just make a gigantic reach at changing the culture of a team?
  15. Yes. All the older vets are killing their cap for years while they have 5-6 younger guys who are all UFAs after this season. Not to mention firing the GM and President of Hockey Operations sure looks like the beginning of a complete fire sale.
  16. Canes went 3-1 versus the Isles during the season, allowing 9 goals in 4 games while scoring 12. And the Canes faced Sorokin in each of those 4 games. And, I'll say it again, there are a handful of guys wearing Islander sweaters I'd think would play very well for the Canes: Pageau, Engvall, Lee, Nelson. Barzal plays extremely well against the Canes, as does Anders Lee. It's playoff hockey season and anything can happen, guys. If I'm not mistaken, the last time the Canes faced the Islanders was the 2018-2019 season. After beating the Caps in an exciting 7-game series, the Canes swept the Isles with the 4th win coming at home in PNC Arena. Yours truly was on-hand as I was honored as a Hero of the Game on May 3, 2019.
  17. Pittsburgh Penguins fired GM Ron Hextall and President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke this morning after the team failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2006. The team is old to begin with, but looking at the contracts- holy poo. The oldest guys on the team have the longest and biggest contracts on the team: Malkin was done before the season started and the Pens are on the hook for $6.M for the next 3 seasons! Carter is 38 and under contract until he's 40. And look at the blue line: Letang for another 5 years at $6.1M?!? He's 35 now, ffs. Yet, Dumulin is a UFA, and he's probably the #2 D-man on the roster. The Pens are in serious trouble. They're old and their cap-strapped. They may not be relevant for another 5 years or so. And, by then, Sidney Crosby will be gone.
  18. A 1-hour replay of last night's game is on NHL Network at noon today, if anyone is interested. I watched the YouTube NHL league highlight reel, but it was the Florida announcers. I'd much rather listen to Tripp and Big Mike. Give Tripp some cred, though. Last game of the season and he did not refer to the Canes PP as a "work in progress." It was good for the 80th game of the season, but not last night.
  19. Not sure, but since you're on a Canes forum, are you trying to convince us or yourself just how good "your" Devils are?
  20. Trouba will try to take out Hughes early. He's good for at least 3-4 cheap shots per game.
  21. Only consumed 3 Cabo Wabo Reposados on the rocks during the game.
  22. Okay, I know I said the Canes would lose the division, but they proved me wrong. Stood tall against Detroit at home and hung 6 on Florida, despite Freddie giving up 3 weak ones, on the way to a Metro Division title.
  23. NJ wins in OT. Let them and the Rags go beat on each other for 7 games.
