  1. If anyone here thinks the Canes can give up 44 shots to Boston and still expect to win... well, I don't know what to tell you. I missed the game last night but watched the highlights this morning and when I saw the shot total, I was a little wary. What happened to the D? Ineffective forecheck? How did a 2-line team get 44 shots on goal? Allow 44 shots to Boston today and the Canes will need to score 7 to win...
  2. The Canes enjoy a small, 2-point lead on the Devils and they have 2 games in hand. NJ is also back home today for the second game of a back-to-back with Ottawa in town. Even with 2 games in hand, a 2-point lead says, "Take care of your own business and let the chips fall where they may." Maintain or build on the 2-point lead with a win, or keep the lead or, perhaps, fall into a tie with NJ. It's about points now. Not so much beating the other guy, who we dislike immensely. If #52 was in the starter's crease this morning, then he's starting. On the other side of that coin is #31, who has stood on his head the last 2 games. None of the goals allowed were really on him as much as defensive lapses. Not sure which pill you'd rather swallow- the defensive lapse or the goalie giving up the easy one now and then. I'll take the defensive lapse, because there's still a chance the goalie comes up huge.
  3. 5-2 Buffalo after 2. This is a good thing.
  4. Beaufort to the north and Sunset Beach to the south.
  5. 2 of 4 from NY is a win in my opinion. 1 or 2 points of the possible 4 available Saturday & Sunday and a win against TB will be a very successful 5-game stretch.
  6. Canes are gassed. Be lucky to stay just 1 goal down now.
  7. So, KK takes a head shot, Drury gets his helmet ripped off and there's a penalty on Carolina. Gotcha.
  8. Linville is the guy who helped Eric Rudolph avoid capture for five years in the Murphy area....
  9. On their ice when they had last change and the Canes stood tall. The Rangers top line was invisible. It'll take this same effort for 4 more games...
  10. If memory serves me, Stepan has a history of playing well against NY.
  11. The operative word here was "consistency." The Canes never played them during the COVID season until the playoffs. That season was a wash regardless and shouldn't count for anything beyond player stats. The prior season (2019-20) the Canes went 0-4, and in 2018-19 they went 2-2. Regardless of their 3 wins in 4 meetings last season, the fact is they lost in the playoffs... at home. And, in the playoffs, I don't see Carolina winning 4 of 7. They had a better shot of winning 4 of 7 last year than this. While the Canes are losing guys to injury, the Rangers improved their roster.
  12. Canes have not been able to beat the Rangers with any consistency in years. And it continues this season, so my expectations are next to nothing. If they win one or even get an OT point for one of the 2 games, I'll be okay. That being said, at some point the Canes will have to face them in the playoffs, and this is where the season ends.
  13. We can only imagine how the end to this game would have sounded with Big Mike Maniscalco and Tripp doing the broadcast. Instead, we were treated to a couple guys who were obviously leaning toward the Flyers and as interesting to listen to as a lawnmower.
  14. And, not the first time he's done this.... DeAngelo will spend the rest of his life having Aho nightmares...
  15. It also needs to be mentioned that he's been noticeably invisible for a few games, too. I mean, his game last night was one for the books, but let's not fool ourselves, either. He needs to show up every night, especially with Svech gone. Not saying he needs to score, but he needs to make an impact.
  16. To be clear, I'm not in favor of the rental market; landing the big fish that may cost you draft picks, a chunk of salary cap, etc. I am a believer in developing talent, maintaining a pipeline of players and becoming a model of consistency that will lure players who may become free agents. There's a reason Brent Burns came to Raleigh, Max Paccioretty, and some others. Your odds are better building a team that contends year in and year out for the cup than grabbing up a bunch of rentals and hoping the chemistry works within a 2-month window to win a cup. The Canes were a legit contender when they added Max. They were still a contender when Max went down. But outsiders who looked at this team and believed this team was a serious contender also saw the weaknesses we've all discussed at length here- goal tending and another goal scorer. I, for one, don't want to sell the farm for the chance to land a very good milk cow.
  17. I'd pull Andersen for that bone-headed play. WTF. Canes lose this and the next 5 In a row, write it down.
  18. Announcers are a flaming burn pit. A fugging hazmat train crash. The 1960s DDT mosquito spraying truck.
  19. Almost thru 2 periods and the Flyers haven't committed a penalty? #Gimmeafuggingbreak
  20. I'm going to send something to the organization commending the work of Maniscalco, Tracey, Will the Thrill and Hannah. They're terrific. ESPN, NHL Network, TBS, TNT all suck balls.
  21. These announcers are terrible. And there's the expected weak goal given up by Andersen.
