  1. That was too easy. Lyon and the Canes might get rocked tonight.
  2. Defense stepped up as well. Calgary only has a handful of shots this period. 21-7 shots in the 2nd.
  3. I think this team is so much better with KK at center, although the Staal line has been a beast of late. Problem is, Stepan doesn't play the wing, so the Canes would have to wait for Martinook's return before they could give the kid a shot at center for any length of time.
  4. Bill Murray may have something to say about that..... every..... single...... day.......
  5. Except that the only known red wolves left are in Eastern NC and there are more of them alive in captive protection than living in the wild. They are an endangered species and will likely be extinct within our lifetime. https://weilerwoodsforwildlife.com/red-wolf-facts/ They are the most endangered wolf in the world. As of December 2021, there are less than 20 left in the wild. They mate for life and have one litter of pups a year. Often one litter will help their parents care for the next, younger group of pups. Red wolves are great parents and will even care for another wolf’s babies, given the chance. Also, they are very shy and don’t want to be around you or your house. It is very rare you will ever encounter one. Red wolves weigh between 45 and 80 pounds. They are smaller than a gray wolf but larger than a coyote. All wolves, including red wolves, help keep coyotes out of the area where they live. They are the apex predator and will run out or kill coyotes entering their territories.
  6. Grohl is a good guy and I think he's probably done more and been more meaningful to the music scene in general than Nirvana ever was, but somehow Cobain... never mind. All that said, Foo Fighters closed the show at the Rock Hall Induction this year. We were in the audience and it was not good. Maybe the moment brought on too much adrenaline or... but Grohl was just screaming at the top of his lungs and most of the attendees couldn't even figure out what song he was doing. It was a little better when McCartney came out and did "Get Back" with them, but it wasn't good at all. I need to watch it back on HBO and see if TV editing improved the sound quality.
  7. Likely as dull, boring and highly partisan broadcasting skills.
  8. The Panthers have never been shy in their admiration of the Steelers and have always been very public in their claim to want to be a version of that organization. The sheer irony of all that is the Steelers have built every generation of their roster going back to Terry Bradshaw's days on an offensive line. They've always had O-linemen playing together for years and while they lost one or two along the way, they have never been forced to make wholesale changes to their O-line for any reason other than injuries. Ben Rothliesberger has all the mobility of a pile of bricks and, in my opinion, he's an average QB. But his longevity and success are all testament to what commitment to building and keeping an O-line should be.
  9. So, I watched the first 2 periods and had to get on the road for the coast, but listened on the way down the road. I just got back home, turned on YouTube and watched the last period. Wow. Just fugging wow. I'm just gonna leave this alone.
  10. 4 uncontested goals. Don't remember the last time that happened. I thought it would take at least 2 in the 2nd period to get back in this. They have a shot.
  11. Overall reaction time is off, they're sleepwalking. The rust looks gone in the offensive zone, but none of Columbus's goals were challenged and Canes were looking around.
  12. Day games not a favorite of the Canes? Haven't looked at their splits but, historically, they're slow-starters in day games. But they are 13-10 on Columbus ice.
  13. That's why I stuck with revenue versus profit. Profit is the end result while revenue is pretty much a fixed number based on ticket sales and tv deals- not a lot of change from one year to the next. But, to your point, Tepper is more profitable when he doesn't spend money, so again, why should he care if the product is successful? It's going to effect his bottom line to pay for a quality product.
  14. So, because it's Howell, the fanbase will overlook the fact he'll perform at a Darnold or Grier level?
  15. You're right. Although he's not great, he could have had 1 or 2 more shut-outs if it weren't for some sloppy play in front of him. The OT loss to the Sharks and the loss to Vancouver a couple weeks ago come to mind.
  16. Not sure where your info comes from, so I beg to disagree. I'll trust what Forbes has to say. https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/forbes-nfl-franchise-value-2021-cowboys-tampa-bay-bucs/ National Football League (NFL) franchise valuations have risen sharply in the last year to hit an average of US$3.48 billion, according to Forbes’ latest estimations. Following significant revenue losses during the 2020 season due to the pandemic, this year has seen the NFL rebound with average team values up 14 per cent – the largest annual jump in five years – says Forbes. According to the business outlet, the 2020 season saw the league suffer a 20 per cent drop in revenue, with average revenue reportedly coming in at US$381 million per team. Operating income was severely impacted by the pandemic, with Forbes estimating that it fell from US$109 million in 2019 to US$7.1 million in 2020. Report: Buffalo Bills could consider relocating if stadium plans fall through According to the study, the Dallas Cowboys remain the NFL’s most valuable franchise, with a value of US$6.5 billion and league-high revenue of US$800 million resulting in an operating income of US$280 million. The New England Patriots (US$5 billion) rank second, followed by the New York Giants (US$4.85 billion). The value for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the reigning Super Bowl champions, is up 29 per cent in the last year – the most of any NFL team. NFL franchise valuations have risen sharply in the last year to hit an average of US$3.48 billion
  17. How do you know he is "eager to put a winning product on the field?" I'll play the skeptic here and point out that Tepper is making mad money regardless of the team's performance. He can say he wants a winning product on the field, but when the PSLs are sold (guaranteed money) and the TV deal is done (guaranteed money), what else does he need? The Dallas Cowboys are one the highest valued professional sports teams in the world and huess what? They haven't won dick in the last 25 years. The Panthers have had more post season success since 1996 than Dallas has, made more post season appearances and essentially ended Dallas post season run on January 5, 1997 when the Panthers beat them 26-17. I'm not convinced Tepper is all that invested in putting a winning product ion the field, he's a savvy money-man and he's doing just fine putting this brand of dog food out there every week. Sure, he could spend a ton of money and pay for a decent team, but his bottom line doesn't get that much better one way or the other.
  18. I couldn't be happier that I unloaded our PSLs years ago. I've also become a lot more accepting and less emotionally attached since making a conscious decision to give up my fandom for any one team. It's far better to be just a fan of the game and enjoy watching the sport for what it is instead of allowing a team to impact your life on an emotional level. Now, I watch whatever football game may look to be interesting, otherwise I have other things to do. It's such a better life, a healthier life. The franchise is broken. Fixing a broken franchise is not easy because the owner is making money hand over fist regardless of the team's success or failure. Only when an owner truly wants the team to succeed is there an opportunity to fix it.
  19. Consistent poo, both ways. But there's a lot of rust on the ice.
