  1. More than a goalie problem- look at this roster and their cap issues going forward. They have a lot of old guys under contract thru next season.... and they'll look every bit of their age. The youngest guys on the roster are 24....
  2. https://www.bostonherald.com/2022/05/04/bruins-lose-game-2-and-hampus-lindholm-in-carolina/ RALEIGH, N.C. — With five games’ worth of data now available, there can be only one conclusion drawn regarding the Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes. The B’s are no match for them. In the latest installment of the season-long Black and Gold horror show, the B’s were pummeled 5-2 in a nasty, physical Game 2 at PNC Arena on Wednesday to fall behind in the series 2-0. But the loss was more costly than that. While the Canes are now down to their third-string goalie after Antti Raanta got hurt, the B’s will most likely be without defenseman Hampus Lindholm for the immediate future after he had to exit the game late in the second period after he absorbed a hellacious hit. Is it possible that the B’s can change the vibe of this series when it shifts to Boston for Game 3 on Friday? Sure. But they’ll have to come up with a much better performance than they’ve been able to muster in their first five games, in which they are 0-5 and have been outscored 26-4. They have yet to hold a lead in five games. “We need a timely save. There’s no doubt about it,” said coach Bruce Cassidy. “We were closer to scoring, we got a couple and the young kid (Pyotr Kochetkov) did a real good job. We could have had more than two. And to me, it’s not too little too late. You’re not on to the next city. It’s the same series, so once you start getting confidence and realizing you can score, the other team realizes that, too. But we’re certainly going to need some timely saves when the tide gets shifted, like they did early on and early on the other night. We finished better than we did the other night and that’s got to continue as well.” With the temperature high after the Raanta injury and then the Lindholm injury, the B’s took 13 minors, which produced three different 5-on-3s, one of which the Canes scored on. “It comes down to discipline. We were in the box a lot tonight. We have to look at it and see what was warranted and what wasn’t, but that can’t continue, either,” said Cassidy. Late in the second period, Lindholm was blasted by Andrei Svechnikov and he was clearly dazed. There was no definitive update, but it didn’t look good at the time or sound good afterward.
  3. Bruins starting rookie goalie Friday night and Lindholm out. https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2352656 The Boston Bruins will start rookie goaltender Jeremy Swayman in Friday's Game 3 against the Carolina Hurricanes, head coach Bruce Cassidy confirmed. Linus Ullmark started the first two games of the series, losing both contests and allowing eight goals on 57 shots. Swayman and Ullmark split games evenly during the regular season, with each netminder starting 39 contests. Swayman finished with a .914 save percentage and 2.41 goals-against average, while Ullmark managed a .917 save percentage and 2.45 goals-against average. Defenseman Hampus Lindholm won't play Friday after exiting Game 2 early. He was on the receiving end of a massive hit from Andrei Svechnikov midway through the contest. The Bruins trail 2-0 against the Hurricanes in the first-round series and haven't mustered much on either end of the ice. The Hurricanes are outscoring them 10-3.
  4. Boston lost control last night. They were still very much in the game and started taking penalties left and right, which cost them whatever chance they had to get back into the game. Yes, they were down 2 goals, but it was early enough they could have gotten back into it, but instead they made it standing room only in the p-box and the Canes capitalized on a couple power plays. The Bruins can make one of 2 decisions- either play hockey and try to get back in the series, or they can decide to goon it up and lose game 3 and the series.
  5. There is a very real danger to the current situation. A veteran, older hockey team getting their collective asses handed to them and they've lost their cool. The Canes are in their heads and the Bs cannot compete on the same level, so they resort to Danbury Trashers-level sh!t that will get someone hurt more seriously than Raanta. I hope the refs take a good, long look at both games and realize they need to get things under control before tomorrow.
  6. He got a 2-minute minor for it. Problem is, a comparable 2-munite minor was called on Pyotr for pushing Rat-Fug in the chest with his glove hand. Gee, which one of those can actually injure someone?
  7. That was a pisser. After already knocking Raanta out of the game by a cheap shot, the refs then watch Rat-Fug cross check Pyotr and do nothing until Marchand does a 2-hand slash.
  8. TDA is restricted, which helps. I don't think Cole or Stepan will be back, and Brendan Smith is a question mark as well - there are a couple guys (Chatfield and Drury) who may be ready to step up. Defensively, the Canes are stacked. Slavin, Skjei, Pesce are around for another 2 years, at least. TDA and Bear are both restricted, so get them signed and bring up Chatfield. I can roll with that group.
  9. Although nobody is talking about him, Nino was spectacular last night in every facet of the game. Physicality, scoring and that dive to make a stick block was, I think, a sure goal averted. That's the edge I think RBA has been looking for and I think that's why he stays and Vinny will get paid handsomely elsewhere. Staal comes back next year, and the centers will be Aho, Staal, KK and Domi when Vinny leaves.
  10. Which of you is wearing the inflatable Cane suit in the stands?
  11. What's the goal differential right now? 25-2?
  12. I'm pacing... wife knows not to fug with me now.... but she does have her #20 jersey on...
  13. I'll be waiting for 2 make-up calls from the refs. 2 PKs in the 1st?
  14. I want 2 goals in the 1st. Get Ullmark rattled, get a win and go steal 1 in Boston.
  15. Bruins lines- changing up their D already....
  16. My brother-in-law is a huge Ranger homer and thinks the Rangers and Calgary will be in the final. Says Canes will lose to Boston in 7. NY loses in 3OT- that's gonna be a difficult get-back for Shesterkin- he's probably wiped out. But both Pens and Rangers are essentially 2-line teams, and the Pens have the weaker GT. That series could go 6 or 7 games and they'll be drained because they have no depth.
  17. Ovechkin coming off a 10-day rest after supposedly having an upper body injury that kept him out of the last 3 games of the season. I fully expect Florida to go after him and find out if he is really hurt. But yeah, 2 goon squads on the ice tonight. I'll get out the popcorn and just watch them beat the crap out of each other.
  18. Did they claim Boston won based on the metrics?
