Cotchery on Mac Attack

I just guess like everyone else, but it is a bit strange.  Thanks.

Hey, just look at how Smith Hung Cam Out To Dry (suggestion box press conference), claiming he was whining (forgot the better word), when Smith did the same thing several weeks later.

He apologized for what he said about Cam in the media, but he should have known better to begin with. That was just Smith feeling entitled, thinking he can run off with his mouth.

He also bugged Cam a lot on passing the ball to him. You wonder if SS's skills had totally degraded, and there were clearly better options, would he still bug Cam to throw him the ball all the time, if he would have stayed??

That certainly wouldn't have developed young receivers either. Lol

I am with you.  For a veteran, he made a lot of rookie mistakes with his mouth.  I think people are loyal to him and not seeing his impact for what it was. You have to look at the ripples he caused as much as the splashes.  The money situation made this move a no-brainer, but people still criticized the GM.  Smitty had many good qualities, but being a teammate was not always one of them.

Cotchery and Avant are class acts and they have good hands.  Benjamin is a freak.  Underwood has speed. We are better off.

I think the opportunity for Cam to lead was at the core as you suggest. I hear that Smitty was in his ear constantly.  I thought Lafell flashed, but never quite made the next step--however, he was a third rounder.  Expectations were determined when we did not look to upgrade him, when we depended on a small speed WR entering his mid thirties and Lafell.  Lafell was OK vs. Zones, but a nickel in man coverage could shut him down.  His blocking was great, but he was a #3 on his best day.

We are all guessing, but I feel good about the quality we have here. No standouts and a rookie, but I think we upgraded at WR.  I think the line will be as good and better by midseason, barring injury.  I am concerned about S, something most are not even talking about.  I even kinda like our CBs.

Nice to have a disagreement on here without the other party getting mad or taking things personally.  Hats off.

Good post.

And even though they maybe questions at OL, and maybe with the media regarding the WR's: I to feel the offense will be upgraded (hopefully with Shula and Cam being one year smarter, along with the addition of Ramsdall).

Just another big target (albeit a rookie in Benjamin) will make a dramatic difference on the offense (kinda like Shockey and Olsen during Cam's early years, when the offense really cooked).

I feel Cotchery and Avant, though not superstars, will provide that smart, heads up play many Panther receivers lacked (such as coming back to the ball when Cam's in trouble or about to scramble; moving up a few yards, if you see the ball may be short, instead of staying planted in your receiving route), etc.

I think the sum will be greater than the parts next year. Just a different mix, attitude. Plus, I feel they'll be more cohesive/as one, with better locker room guys and in a eager rookie/star (in the making with) Benjamin?

Agreed!

And when Gettlemen saw the $$ situation, along with the degradation in skills and big mouth, attitude, locker room bully/ball hawk, it became a no brainer.

I was not real happy when we drafted Benjamin.   I wanted him in February, but it waned.  I started focusing on his limitations.  From all I am hearing, we have reason to be excited.  The sum will be greater than the parts--I think the attitude has improved, Cam, Olsen, and Kalil will now lead the offense without a bunch of noise and finger pointing.

There was so much the fan base over looked in regards to SS. The comments about Cam in the media after the NYG game were freaking unbelievable. He once said on WFNZ that all he cared about was making the HOF. I don't know about you but that rubs me the wrong way. After he got cut, he goes on WFNZ and makes the business or corporate comments which turned the fan base against Gettleman. NFL.com picked that up and ran with it. He didn't care what he did by saying those comments. I can't stand people who paint themselves as the victim. Steve Smith is very gifted in marketing the more I think about it.
