Here's a thread for posting interesting statistics and analysis from the Tampa game.  I'll weigh in later in the week with some table and analysis from Tampa and the 1st 4 games of the season, but today, I'll just be posting some info from Twitter and various articles.  Please weigh in with interesting stats, etc.

Week 4 snap counts:

  • Season-low snaps for Stewart and a season high for Artis-Payne, who played more than Whittaker for the first time.
  • Over the past two games, Brown has played 91 snaps with one catch on three targets.
  • Funchess finished without a catch for the first time, equaling his season-low snap count from Week 1.

 

  • Coleman is the only Panthers’ defensive player still at 100 percent of snaps (302/302).
  • A year after Norman didn’t play a single defensive snap at Tampa Bay, his star and price continue to skyrocket.
  • Gutty performance by Davis who played all but 19 snaps a week after he couldn’t raise his arm because of a pectoral injury.
  • Benwikere, who was replaced by Jones for a segment of the second quarter, had been averaging 85 percent of snaps before he played 66 percent on Sunday.
  • Ealy set career highs with 52 snaps and five tackles, but he’s still looking for his first sack of the season.
  • Coach Ron Rivera said last week he hoped Allen could play 35-40 snaps. He hit 35 while Delaire went to 40 in his NFL debut.
  • After playing just 17 snaps in Week 1, Thompson’s averaged 43 over his past three games. It’ll be interesting to see how the first-round pick and Klein divide playing time when Luke Kuechly returns.
  • Boston went from 20 snaps combined the first three weeks to 32. His rotation with Harper is becoming more even.

An interesting and somewhat odd collection of stats at BBR this week.  Here are some of them.

The Panthers:

  • Have won eight straight regular-season games.
  • Are 19-2-1 when scoring at least 20 points since the start of 2013.
  • Won their fifth straight game against the Bucs. That ties a team record for Carolina’s longest win streak in the series (2003-2005).
  • Forced five takeaways, their most since the Bucs turned it over five times on 12/6/09. The Panthers now lead the NFL with a +8 turnover margin.
  • Scored 10 points in the first quarter after totaling three opening-quarter points through their first three games. The Panthers’ offense still hasn’t scored a touchdown in the first quarter.
  • Went 3-for-11 on third down. The Panthers have converted 12 of their 35 third downs after going 8-for-17 in Week 1.
  • Allowed the Bucs to go 8-for-16 on third down. Tampa Bay came in ranked 31st in the NFL on third down after going 1-for-12 against the Texans last week.
  • Allowed 411 yards, the most they’ve given up in a win since the Saints picked up 441 in a Panthers’ 44-38 victory in the 2012 season finale.
  • Gained 244 yards, their fewest in a win since they picked up 222 against the Saints in a Panthers’ 17-13 win on 12/22/13.
  • Allowed the Bucs to rush for 141 yards, the second time the defense has given up at least 100 yards in its last 11 regular-season games. The Bucs rushed for 151 in Week 15 last year.
  • Rushed for 133 yards, the 15th straight game they’ve gained at least 100 yards on the ground. That ties a team record and is one more than Seattle as the longest current streak in the NFL. The Seahawks play the Lions Monday night.
  • Totaled just 111 net passing yards, their fewest in a win since they threw for 85 yards behind Jake Delhomme against Arizona on 11/1/09.

Martin looks to be back to his 2012 form. I wish we had him.

Nice but I wish it didn't take Cam to get that done.

I think this is my favorite of BBR's stat tweets this week.  Shows really good improvement by Cam and the O line.  And to get more TDs with our current WR situation.... impressive.

      I must apologize, my sarcasm at times doesnt translate well in text form lol. At this point I would welcome us signing him, Trey Lance, trading for Jameis Winston, asking about Deshaun Watson and playing phone tag with Tom Brady before I ever fully entertain a season of Bryce Young being the defacto Starting Quarterback of the Panthers.

      We had a QB who could do that and its the last time we went to the Super Bowl and the only time we had an MVP. Once he lost his ability to do that he was out of the league. To filter out insignificant stats I will only look at QBs who have played in 10 or more games this year. There are 28 qualifying QBs. Bryce is 25th in Air Yards per Attempt at 6.4. Only Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel are worse (6.0, 5.8, 5.1). Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and CJ Stroud are the median QBs at 7.1. Drake Maye and Sam Darnold lead the league at 8.7. Bryce is 18th in the league for passes that travel 30+ yards at 12. The median is Caleb Williams at 15. The league leader is Matthew Stafford with 26. With passes that travel 40+ yards, Bryce is tied with three others at 21st in the league with 3. Only Jacoby Brissett, Cam Ward, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are worse. The median is a three-way tie with Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, and Baker Mayfield with 6. The league leader is Sam Darnold with 12. Having the ability to complete passes down the field (not YAC) stretches the defense and makes them account for more ground. It keeps players out of the box and keeps formations in nickel or dime, less line backers for your RBs to worry about. Bryce is why we have 2 losses against the Saints. If he had the outright ability to sling the football down field we beat the easily, but he doesn't. So they crowded the box and our 2 starting caliber RBs with our top ~10 Oline couldn't carry the offense to a win on their own. The limitations of the offense fall squarely on Bryce.
